I am Vicky Cheng and I have always lived in Ching-Shuie with a strong desire to broaden my knowledge of western culture.
English has always been in my life (photo1). As a full time English teacher, my mother has given me the inspiration and foundation to lead me on the path to becoming professional English speaker (photo2). From kindergarten to senior high, I never failed to stop learning English. I have been chosen to represent the school in English competitions such as making speeches and reading aloud in the past.

EPC (English Performance Club) One of the ways I decided to pursue my ambition is through EPC (English Performance Club). My senior high school entrance exam results could have gotten me into a different school but it was EPC that made me chose Ching-Shuie senior high school. While with EPC, I had a lot of experiences learning and using English. Our teacher would hold many lecturers to give us a variety of ways to build our knowledge about English. Some of my favorites were movies, dramas, limbs developments, and the use of multimedia. The teacher would also arrange many interesting activities to help us learn English while at the same time having fun. (photo3-7)

Perform in Public Our club has often been invited to perform in public. (photo8-14) The most important activity in the whole year is the annual EPC performance, which involves singing, dancing and a diverse range of roles. At the two and a half hour performance, we put on our best performance to show off our creativity and skill. (photo16-28) Due to EPC and our teacher, I am confident that I can pursue the study of English. I believe in being flexible and creative with English.

Summer camp Last summer vacation, I participated in an English camp in Tun-Ghai university. This did not have traditional lectures, but more practical classes which were much closer to life. Table manner and food ordering was covered as well as sightseeing and travel. Commercial courses and commercial presentations were also part of the range of courses I took. The teachers all came from foreign countries, so that I could have chance to know more foreign culture first hand. (photo34-39)

To fulfill my ambitions, I think The Department of Foreign Languages and Literature in Tunghai University is the best choice. I am also fascinated by the course here. I believe I have the practical background, as well as positive and active attitudes needed for your department. If I have the privilege to enter, I will spare no effort to study English, and become a professional English speaker.

Study plan
Before entering the university, I will use my time wisely by brushing up my English vocabulary, grammar structure and common usages. I’ll also take up some reading to improve my English ability like reading in world-famous literature such as: animal farm and other simplified readers. Other activities I plan on doing which will also highly related to English is to watch foreign movies without Chinese subtitles to learn their standard pronunciation, culture and living English and so on. While in university First, I will consolidate the four foundational abilities: Speaking, Reading, Listening and Writing. I want to build up my conversation and composition skill, I believe with strict requirement of the department will enable me to reach a more advanced level of English proficiency. I will be taking courses like: “Instruction of Western Literature”, which will motivate us to make good use of the resources in the university so as to train us on how to look for information. By employing the English ability, I will study English Literature, American Literature and experience western culture much deeper. Second, I will start to grab the opportunity there is available to be able to study abroad. Since my goal is to broaden my view point of the world, so other people will get to know the existence of Taiwan. Extracurricular activities Without interference on the study, I‘ll try to attend meaningful activities, for example, teaching remote elementary schools students. This not only helping the children to learn English also I can share my enthusiasm that I received from my mother and teacher and facilitate it to future generation. Furthermore, I am planning on having part-time jobs abroad to broaden my horizon, to learn how to be independent and to take responsibilities of my own. After Graduation I believe it is easy to find a job. However, it is not fairly easy to find a job which you will devote yourself utterly to. Therefore, I will be looking for a job that is highly connected with English; most importantly is to share my great passion of English to others. In which way, my ability will be facilitated fully which will give me a sense of confidence and great achievement. I believe I will be very successful with the education received from the university. Till then, it is my responsibility and capability to give feedback to the university and society what they grant me while I was learning.
