rockstar of motivational entertainment | brettshuttleworth.com
Patron | Brett Shuttleworth
Why do people call our patron Brett Shuttleworth the ‘Rockstar of Motivational Entertainment?’ SA Celebrity Magazine asked Ruphali Mahendra Rajani to pose this question to Brett and this is what he had to say: “From a young age, I had a natural ability to hold people’s attention and entertain them. I have further evolved myself by undergoing the highest level of training with one of Hollywood’s most prominent acting coaches, John Kirby, and further going through one of the most rigorous Coaching and Trainer programs at one of the world’s leading consciousness coaching academies, of which I later became a Director. I use my life formation and background as a policeman, professional sportsman, celebrity, supermodel, actor, entrepreneur, corporate director, speaker and father to inspire, motivate and entertain audiences around the world. I have travelled or worked in 16 countries to date to make a difference in people’s lives, creating a ripple effect of love globally. The impact of my work ranges from making souls smile, to motivating sports teams to win, and making a difference on a corporate’s bottom line – this is what I’m absolutely passion about! It’s probably this level of love, passion and commitment, which touches people and leads them to refer to me as the Rockstar of Motivational Entertainment! What is my message through my talks? My message: If I could give you one gift today, I would give you the ability to see the beautiful gift of love you are already. I not only believe that you are already everything you seek… but what you are ultimately seeking for is seeking you, and that is Love, the ultimate success!”

K2 Twins Alex and Charlie Kotze, also known as the K2-Twins, have taken the country by storm for 2014. After being approached by a TV Producer (Johan Stephan) in December 2013, the Twins began work on building up a profile throughout various social media platforms. They used these mediums to showcase their shift to a healthier lifestyle, and eventually became known as the ‘K2-Twins’.
‘To becoming ultimate lifestyle coaches’ Growing up on a wine and vegetable farm in Vredendal, a town in the Western Cape, Alex and Charlie have indeed come a long way. The K2-Twins have reached a large variety of individuals throughout the country with their Facebook (now boasting over 48 000 Likes), Twitter (over 2000 followers), and Instagram (12 000 followers) pages. On these sites, you are able to follow them on their journey towards becoming ultimate lifestyle coaches. Followers gain insight into how they train, what they eat, tips for staying fit and lean, the K2-Twins style and fashion, as well as learning about the benefits of living a more balanced and purposeful life.
6
\The media took notice of them, and they’ve made several appearances on TV shows, in newspapers, magazines and on radio (Top Billing, Expresso, 7de Laan, Sunday Times, Rapport, East Rand Magazine, Huisgenoot/YOU, RSG, Jacaranda FM, KykNet Bravo, Men’s Health, and several blogs & websites). Their most recent achievement is scooping the October-covers for Men’s Health South Africa – receiving a special split-cover edition with each them appearing separately. Lookout for the K2-Twins in the coming year of 2015, as they will be the main hosts of Kyk-Net’s brand new season of “Oulap se Rooi”.
‘We’ve had great management’
Growing up, did the two of you ever think that you’d be such an enormous media phenomenon? Growing up on a farm and in a small town, you really don’t consider things like fame, media, TV or any type of exposure like this… none of this ever crossed our minds, we didn’t even consider ourselves good looking or fit or well built… we really have just always been small town farm boys working hard on the farm in the week and enjoying our friends’ social times on weekends. How did you two manage to achieve so much in such a short space of time? Perhaps to be honest we’ve had great management and great guidance that of course always helps. Also the support from every person that liked our page, followed us, also gives us motivation and encouragement to knock on every door and try everything to increase awareness for the fit & healthy lifestyle which we stand for. Tell us about the connection you guys share with each other as twins? We work together, stay together, and train together… so we share a lot of time doing the same things, so we always have to uplift each other and motivate each other. But of course on weekends Alex will spend time with his girlfriend and I will be with my mom and sister, so that we also have some space. It’s important to strive for a balance in everything we do. How do you feel you live up to being seen as role models in society? We are very strict in our lifestyles – we don’t drink any alcohol anymore, you’ll always see us with a bottle of water if we socialize with friends, and we stay disciplined with our daily duties – farm work, then we have to ensure we eat our meals during the day and stick to the times that we have to eat, and we gym 6 days a week. We trust that our disciplined lifestyle and dedication will inspire others to find time and also avoid making excuses. What advice would you give those who lack motivation to pursue a healthier lifestyle? It’s important to have goals… to train for a reason, to set the bar higher every time you achieve something, never be scared of having bigger and bigger goals and always pushing to achieve each one as you go along. If you don’t have a reason to do something, a reason to work for something, then it will be hard to stay motivated. You have to enjoy the lifestyle as a whole, not just train because you want to be fit, but have fun in what you do.

The Hyatt Regency Johannesburg
‘The hotel’s gym and its top-notch fitness equipment, available 24 hours a day’ 8
“Meet you at the Hyatt” has been the key phrase of business executives and visionaries since the hotel at 191 Oxford Road opened in 1995. Now an R80-million upgrade of the Hyatt Regency has taken to its business-focused hospitality to even higher levels of excellence. “The use of light and space reflecting the Hyatt Regency’s elevated place in global business and tourism was as important in the design concept as the new décor and furniture,” says Hyatt Regency GM Michael McBain. “Our focus was to create a wow effect.”
‘Our focus was to create a wow effect’ This mission was accomplished as smoothly as the conference team ensuring the successful outcome of a guest function. An increased sense of space and refinement impresses guests walking through to the lobby area from The Firs or lower parking levels. Enhanced overhead lighting picks out the new white marble between the original black granite tiles and majestic glass panels frame a gleaming interior . The oneNINEone restaurant and The Terrace with its Wine & Cigar Bar beyond the central water feature are jewels in the Hyatt Regency’s designer crown; The Lobby Lounge. Here, the design concept was to identify Johannesburg as a high-powered business hub, in harmony with the international Hyatt Regency brand. Chic patterned glass panels and artfully arranged seating areas that integrate with service counters, achieve just that. “Those three facilities form a vital triangle of our strategic services and showcase our ground-floor area devoted to meeting spaces,” says McBain. The Hyatt Regency offers 12 multi-functional conference rooms equipped with state-of-the-art audiovisual equipment including two boardrooms that can accommodate up to 13 people each. The Hyatt Regency Johannesburg Reenergized and Revitalized Ayanda room – the largest – can seat up to 350 people banquet style. The Ballroom is a firm favourite for weddings and receptions. Floor plans from U-shaped to theatre-style or banquet are easily arranged. A special events team comprising one manager and four associates are on hand to ensure the success of every event
AV systems were extended and future-generation digital connectivity added during the renovation to ensure smooth interactive web conferencing. Hardware and Wi-Fi now connects every room in the Hyatt Regency to a fastest data-flow pipeline. Extensive garden terraces invite alfresco functions, while the elegant Ballroom is perfect for banquets or wedding parties. Says Valentina Marmouget, Public Relations and Communications Manager for Hyatt Regency Johannesburg “Anybody wanting to throw a big party – brides, for example – can meet a dedicated chef for food tastings beforehand, and the Hyatt Regency’s events team can ensure the success of any function.” In addition, the entire eighth floor is devoted to the Regency Club – a hotel within a hotel – where guests enjoy private check-in and checkout facilities, all day tea and coffee, complimentary use of its Boardroom for an hour, evening drinks, and canapés. Says McBain: “A core meeting place for business, cultural, and society leaders, high level social connectivity has been the Hyatt Regency’s most valued asset since it opened in 1995. In 2010 this was the hottest meeting place during the World Club soccer tournament and today we are a vital component of Rosebank’s business and commercial hub. “Even throughout the renovations, occupancy of the hotel remained stable at 60 % plus due to brand loyalty, our core values, and dedicated associates. People walk taller when they enter this hotel.” Being less than 100m away from the Rosebank Gautrain station makes the Hyatt Regency ideal for conference commuters from Pretoria, Sandton and O.R Tambo International airport, a key factor when considering the needs of the business executive.

‘A warm welcome awaits every guest’ Other requirements include smooth check-in after a late flight, a good night’s sleep, the perfect conference venue to present bright ideas, followed by some exercise, a spa session, or perhaps just a pre-prandial whisky at The Terrace - Wine & Cigar Lounge. The newly renovated Hyatt Regency raises the bar in every way. A warm welcome awaits every guest. Check-in is swift and efficient. Comfort and style are the key ingredients in the rooms, all equipped with iPod docking stations and flat screens. Brand new beds dressed in soft, goose-down feather duvets and plump pillows invite deep sound sleep. A sparkling outdoor pool is available. Individual keys enable guests to avail themselves of the hotel’s gym and its top-notch fitness equipment 24 hours a day. Your wellbeing is Amani Spa’s concern. Stocked with a complete range of both local and international products it offers four treatment rooms, three therapists, a full menu of unisex treatments, a Jacuzzi, sauna and a steam room. Whether you choose to eat, play, work, or party in Africa’s most vibrant, happening city The Hyatt is the perfect place to manifest your corporate schemes and wedding dreams.

Patricia de Lille ‘‘She is gentle, down to earth and genuinely cares’
Patricia de Lille, crusader against injustice and corruption, controversial politician, is the latest in a long line of famous South Africans who have been honoured in Foxwood House's Garden of Fame. At a function celebrated as part of the Foxwood Spring Festival, her hand prints were embedded in a stepping stone to be placed in the Foxwood gardens. Patricia de Lille's career has spanned the full spectrum of South African politics from the extreme left in the PAC to middle centre as DA Mayor of Cape Town. She maintains a balanced approach ensuring all of a just share in the city which covers a sizable part of the Cape Peninsula, with many millions inhabitants as varied in culture, outlook and religion as one can find anywhere in the world. The reason for the honour has not been necessarily her political career but rather her role as whistleblower and campaigner for justice and human compassion. I entered this competition with the belief that our youth is in dire need of quality leadership and guidance anchored in strong moral and family values. I have been fortunate enough to be blessed with the opportunity to be brought up in a family where those aspects have played a key role in my development and it is exactly that same love and guidance that made me the humble and serving person that I am today. My aim is and will always be to be a servant to those who never had the opportunities that I had and I will do my best to improve the lives of each and every person where I possibly can. I strongly also do believe that each and every person deserves the best that this life has to offer. No one deserves suffering, despair or pain so let us who can take it upon our self to lift those who are broken. I also entered the competition as the event is closely associated with the Cancer association of South Africa. And having lost my own sister to the disease back in 2006, I would be honored to help and support those families and individuals during and after these difficult times in the same way my sister did during her time in hospital. This is a dedication and continuation of what she did and stood for. I will also aim to be involved with movements to put more pressure from society’s side on our governments and world bodies to develop a cure for this disease. Could you tell us a bit about your journey up to now? I was born and raised in Elarduspark, Pretoria east, where I went to Elarduspark Laerskool and thereafter Waterkloof Hoërskool. I matriculated in 2007, a year after my sister passed away. Thanks to the funds she had while working for a short period of time after she matriculated, I had the opportunity to start university. Which without her funds, probably wouldn’t have been possible. I studied my B.Com degree while majoring in Internal Audit. During my time at University, I was a member of a prominent political party’s youth wing where I served as the member for Finance to the regional executive committee. I was also thereafter the member responsible for marketing. Currently I work as an accountant while doing part time modeling. To follow me on this amazing journey join my group on Facebook Jaco Venter – SA Bachelor Finalist 2014, visit the Bachelor and Bachelorette of the year group, follow me on Twitter @_jacoventer and for general CANSA information visit their website www.cansa.org.za Could you inspire our readers with some final words of wisdom perhaps? “When you’re in rough waters, you will not go down. miss sa finalist
Mishka Patel We sat down with Miss SA 2014 Finalist Mishka Patel and got to know her a little better as a person. We had an interesting chat and here are some of the things we asked and her wise answers to some probing questions about her, helping others and life in general. 25
‘I am a small town girl’ Who or what has been your biggest inspiration? My inspiration comes from what I see. I aspire to inspire. I live for change and making a difference. My inspiration is the youth/people of South Africa. It is because I am so proudly SA and it is because I stand for women empowerment, that I get inspired to speak out, to be an example and to make a difference. How do you manage your time efficiently doing so many things? I believe it is all about having a balance & being organised. I have always been a perfectionist so Having all my dates and times in order is very important to me. What would you like to tell our youth? Don't let anyone tell you your not good enough, pretty enough or smart enough. Find your purpose and live it. Be it. Breath it. Today I dare you to believe in yourself. I dare you to follow your dreams. To work hard. To have faith. To make the right choices. Your circumstances or where you come from should never determine your future. Where in your journey did you feel you made it? The day I saw tears turn into smiles. Frowns go upside down. The day I got the platform to truly make a difference- And the day I got my first letter from a Gr1 Learner at school.
22
When will you feel that you have achieved your dreams? I already have! To spread awareness and hope around causes people are forgetting about, to speak for those who can't speak for themselves- THAT is what is most important to me. I won't stop here, I will keep on fighting and trying to let people discover their own dreams and potential- & teach them how to believe in themselves enough to make dreams a reality. Why do you find so many people wanting to achieve what you did? Because the platforms I have been blessed with have given me an opportunity to truly make a difference. Who does not want to make a difference? Who does not want to be an inspiration? Who does not want to do good and share your passion and love with so many people? It is exactly that same love and guidance that made me the humble and serving person that I am today. My aim is and will always be to be a servant to those who never had the opportunities that I had and I will do my best to improve the lives of each and every person where I possibly can. I strongly also do believe that each and every person deserves the best that this life has to offer. No one deserves suffering, despair or pain.

Lobster Trap Wanting to find the top Seafood Restaurant in Johannesburg was no easy task. According to tripadvisor.com - one of the world’s largest search engines on the Internet for travelling anywhere in the world - we managed to narrow our search down to the top 10 Johannesburg Restaurants. Then it was a matter of seeing which of them serves seafood and soon we were on our way to the Lobster Trap in Bryanston. Owner Dave could not have been more of a warm, gracious host and Chef Ryan left us in speechless awe with his culinary delights. Bottomless seafood platters and lobster were served after some delightful starters and the wine kept on flowing. For an eight month old establishing the venue is booming - with Blue Chip companies’ Directors and CEO’s ‘popping in’ for lobster take-away orders while we were dining. It is certainly the place to be seen in Sandton with the everyone who’s anyone enjoying the splendour, the food, the enormous portions and the most subtle of flavours that is the Lobster Trap - Editor.

Jacques Lagrange After completing his schooling at Paarl Gimnasium School, Jacques Lagrange studied fashion at The Academy of Clothing Technology under Walden Davies, followed by a few years working as a personal assistant to Errol Arendz. He became a finalist in the Young Designer of the Year awards in 1999 and went on to win the Most Elegant Couple competition at The J&B Met of that year, as well as winning the same award once again two years later in 2001, dressing Tammy-Anne Fortuin. Jacques moved to Paris, France to settle, but shortly thereafter returned to SA when asked to help launch French design house, Lancel, in South Africa. He then decided to launch his own label locally and never looked backed. Jacques has had his fare share of media exposure, having appeared on programs such as Top Billing, Pasella, Expresso and Kwela to name just a few. He has also been feature in all the major publications, including cover exposure, with names such as The Argus, Rapport, Cape Times, Die Burger, Sarie, RooiRose, Woman and Home, Cosmopolitan, Wedding Album and Glamour on the list. Ad campaigns he has been involved in include well known brands such as Coty, Revlon and Dark & Lovely. Local personalities who have worn his creations include Jo-Anne Strauss, Cindy Nell, Margaret Gardner and Tammy-Anne Fortuin. Preferring to showcase his creations to a small private client-base, Jacques has previously also shown at Cape Town Fashion Week, South Africa Fashion Week and in 2012 was asked to close Mozambique Fashion Week, as part of the Pan-African Designers, to a resounding success.
‘Before moving to Paris’ 28
Charity is also close to Jacques’ heart with Reach for Recovery (support group for people with breast cancer in rural areas), the Go Red Heart Foundation, Red Cross disaster relief, DWDE (workshop for disabled people) and Imibala (Sponsor a Child) are only a few of the charities that enjoy his support. It has been reported that Jacques has been able to accomplish more in a relatively short period than most designers do in a lifetime. He has even been named South Africa’s ‘King of Couture’, a title not to be taken lightly which most designers can only ever dream of. It is no surprise then that he only dresses a select few A-list clients from all around the world, from England to Sweden, Australia to Switzerland, all in a day’s work. From a 16-year old school kid interviewed on the magazine program Tekkies to the ‘King of Couture’ Jacques has come a long way, but has only scratched the surface of what is still to be expected from this oneof-a-kind talented couturier.

Dunstone ‘While naming it after their former UK farm’ Invited to stay on the Dunstone Winefarm in the Western Cape the publisher and I had a surprising five star experience, unlike a lot of the five star establishments we review every month. Owners Abbi and Lee Wallis came to South Africa in February 2002 from the UK and converted the farm’s stable block into a comfortable and most opulent guesthouse while naming the farm after their former UK farm. Their winery is a small boutique cellar where the grapes are hand picked, hand sorted and hand pressed, offering a high quality Merlot, Shiraz red and a Shiraz rose.
