1.2. Currency exchange rate history from the past 3 years. The Colombian peso is the official currency of Colombia, often denoted by COP, or less formally, COL$. GDP Growth Colombia has a growing and resilient economy. In 2009, while world GDP decreased by 2 percent, the Colombian economy grew by 1.5 percent. In 2011, GDP growth reached 5.9 percent.

Inflation Colombia’s inflation rate is one of the lowest in the region and continues to trend downward. At 3.7 percent, it is near its lowest level in over 50 years. Colombia is one of the few Latin American countries that has never experienced hyperinflation, nor ever defaulted on its debt.

Colombia is Latin America’s oldest and most stable democracy.

For more than a century, the country has experienced peaceful changes of government every four years as citizens have elected government representatives in free and fair elections in a political environment that proudly supports full freedom of the press. Some facts you should know about Colombia:  It is situated in the northwest corner of South America; Colombia is the only country in the region with coasts on both the Caribbean and Pacific Oceans.  Shares borders with Panama, Venezuela, Brazil, Peru and Ecuador. Colombia is an equatorial country whose climate is determined by trade winds, humidity and altitude- the temperature drops as the altitude increases.  The country enjoys constant luminosity throughout the year, with an equal duration of daylight and nighttime hours.


Colombia is the second most bio-diverse country in the world, and number one in bird species, orchids and palm trees.
