Network I have always been good at creating new relations and networking in Denmark, which I often use for business. My study-abroad year in Phoenix, Arizona gave me a broad american network which has come in handy at numerous occasions. Basicly, my High School year in the U.S, gave me an insight to different cultures, which has helped shaping me into a better person, and who I am today.

About me I work constructively with further developing and optimizing existing solutions. But my passion and force is thinking creatively and comming up with my own ideas, designs, and solutions. I have during my studies at Aalborg University worked a lot in group projects, and can easily be inspired by this method of cooperation, just like I am an active player in the collaboration with others. Through 3 years of primarily working in groups I have been inspired into trying to work independently with my own ideas and projects. I am an active person, I practice karate three times a week, I do crosscountry and swim. Me in a few words: currious, entrepreneur, drive, open minded, and love challenges.

2. semester Concept: eating devices for future life The future will bring more awareness regarding to food and health. The big cities will have less cars and more bicycles. Instead of junkfood drive-in there will be healthy food bike-in. The design is a multifunctional take away container you can click on your bike at the bike-in restaurant. This is the first healthy food bike-in concept in the world - and the name is Kago.

3. semester Light & movement, experience & product A pendel lamp was to be designed for Jørn Utzons famous museum near Limfjorden in Aalborg. The lamp opens and closes as the guest moves under it, more people and movement resulting in more light, less people and less movement resulting in less light. The design ended up being a typical Scandinavian design expression with a twist of digital/social design.

Hej Rene, Du skal bare ændre i farver osv. som du har lyst til.

Udgangspunkt i stok typologi.

Grønne tag arealer kastets ned over bygningen.

Fælleskernen splitter bygeningen i yderligere 2 dele og bliver hjerte i bygningen.

Butiksetage placeres under fællesetagen. Den skydes ud for at møde den menneskelige skala og bryde vindstød der opstår på kollegiets facade.

Altanerne skydes ud ad facaden for at nedbryde vindstød.

Det Urbane tager over.

Pragmatic design strategy

5. semester Furniture design

Innovation Cup has together with the company NJA furniture A/S released a designbrief, which founds the basing for the semester assignment. The assignment is to design a storage furniture, which also can provide NJA with a new design line. The furniture needs to be different from other furniture and rethink the way we store things. This portfolio presents to you DUCO, a storage furniture for shoes, which is optimized for small, narrow spaces. The project focus is solving an actual storage problem for the target group, which is first time buyers 20-30 years of age.

DUCO in its closed form, clean and simple. DUCO (Latin for Pull down). The logo imitates the products essentialism. The prime shape is a half circle which comes from a functionalistic design. No excessive ornamentation, “Less is more”. 12

The focus is on storage of the many shoes the young user has, but does not use everyday, and therefore wishes them stored. There is many different solutions, but none of them are able to store shoes in small and narrow spaces. DUCO is optimized for small and narrow spaces by using the entire height of the room. The focusgroup estimates they will pay 1500-2500 kr for a DUCO. To view the full product report please visit: http://issuu.com/asbjornm.axelsen/ docs/id3_5sem_produkt2

5. semester Furniture design The product was presented for the future manufacturer NJA furniture A/S. A design line was created for the presentation following the same designparametres as the DUCO design. DUCO won the competition and is to be produced. The DUCO also won Best Product at Innovation Cup 26th of January 2011. To view the full process report please visit: http://issuu.com/asbjornm.axelsen/docs/id3_5sem_proces2

Bachelor

Integrated product design The Bachelor project at Architecture and Design, specializing in Industrial design, was about designing an integrated product for the automotive industry. The focus of the project was to eliminate the mechanics repeated lifts of car wheels during the days work, and design a product to help him with the procedure. The product must not be in the way, but still right at hand. Furthermore the product must be intuitiv and act as a natural solution to lifting car wheels instead of the mechanic stressing his back. Bachelor

Integrated product design The innovative tool is called GI1319 (Grip it 13 inch to 19 inch wheels). The product has been designed through a user integrated design process and is to be placed around the carwheel. GI1319 is fastened manually by the mechanic, that way the mechanics “hands on” requirement was met. Then the GI1319 is lifted by an electric powered hoist, controlled by the mechanic at the wireless remotecontrole integrated into the GI1319 handlebars. The product is fastened to the carwheel by the two handles on each side of the “frame” by pushing the levers in 2-3 times. The goal was to design a minimalistic tool, with as few parts as possible, and instead using the already given “free” strengths excisting in and around the tool, for instance the car tire manufactures millions of dollars invested in material lifespand and friction development of the tires, by simply adding the GI1319s “bearing arms” a thin coating of “asphalt resembling material”, the grip on the carwheel was made super strong at a minimal price. Bachelor

Integrated product design The mechanics were very pleased by their new product. It was put into use right away and the mechanics found the process of lifting wheels and fastening them onto the car 5-10 times slower than by doing it by hand, but after a days work of lifting wheels they reported back they did not suffer any backpains, wristpains nor neckpains as they uasually did, and solely for that reason they would prefer to use our product in the future. The vision of designing a product that would be fun and flexible, fast and durable was almost realized, and looking back the overall experience was insightfull and giving for the design students and the mechanics ended up with a tool for the future.

Mini project Individual project Individual design project lasting 3 weeks. A product of wood was to be made, with the focus on solving a problem most people did not know they had. The cuttingboard was the obvious choice for this task, as wood contains natural enzymes, which kill bacteria in minutes instead of days as the plastic cuttingboard.

Mini project Individual project The cuttingboard consists of a meatand a legumes-side. There is a sloping angle on both userfaces for juices, and a bowl for collecting the vegetables on the legume-side of the cutting board. The meat-side juices are collected by the bearpaw which has made claw marks on the board. The idea is to give the user an experience while using his or her cuttingboard to feel healthy and close to nature.

Juice from the meat makes the bearpaw stand out. The juice looks like a deep red ruby while laying in the bearpaw. 29

Mini project Individual project The assignment was to redesign a powertool; I was given the triangle sander. My designcriterias were Japanese simplicity, different materials than usual, and you had to be able to wear gloves. I was inspired by old Japanese paintings and design tradition, where the design is simple like Scandinavian design.

The triangle sander had to be more ergonomic and it needed a bigger engine to fulfill the clients needs, so I took the basics of shapes: the circle, the square, and the triangle like much of the ancient Japanese design. This simple design manifest combined with the clients demands resulted in a new triangle sander

Art exhibitions At Galleri Kyhl and HEART I exhibit my art, primarily surrealistic pencil drawings, at Gallery Kyhl in Aarhus and HEART museum in Herning. I was asked to join the Danish TV programme called “Hvad er det værd?” when they had an episode about artists. They interviewed me for the programme and the interview was later broadcasted to 2.1 million viewers in Denmark. It was a great opportunity for me to advertise some of my art and brand myself. After being in DR1’s TV programme gallery owners contacted me and I am now currently exhibiting at Gallery Kyhl in Aarhus . The drawing “Shall I compare thee to a summers day?” (right) was the discussion topic in “Hvad er det værd?” and was estimated at a price of 2-3000 dkr
