The Impact of Giving & Donor Report 2019-2020
2019-2020 Donor Honor Roll Thank you to all individual and corporate donors for the generous support provided to the American School of Dubai during the 2019-2020 school year. ASD is pleased to be able to accept gifts from individuals and corporations to support our mission and to offer distinctive learning opportunities beyond what tuition can provide. Thank you also to the many volunteers who help enrich our community with their time and talent. ASD thrives because of the dedication of parents, friends, and alumni who give thousands of hours each year in support of the school.
In honor of the opening of our new instructional building and Early Learning Program, ASD launched the Brick Campaign in June 2020—a unique opportunity to create a lasting tribute. The personalized, commemorative “bricks” are added to a Legacy Wall just inside Gate 4.

2020 was a challenging year. Although the worldwide pandemic disrupted community celebrations starting in February, we were touched by the generosity of the many Gala 2020 donors who chose to transfer their gifts to the Strategic Initiatives Fund or to support a future Gala. 2020 GALA GIFTS

The Impact of Giving As a result of the generosity of our community of parents, faculty, staff, alumni, alumni parents, and friends in 2019-2020, over AED 150,000 has been dedicated to enhance, extend, and enrich learning opportunities for students beyond what tuition provides. Here are just a few examples of the impact of those gifts:
1) Strategic Initiatives ASD’s Strategic Plan focuses on Pathways that support deeper learning in the areas of Technology & Innovation, Business & Entrepreneurship, Global/Internationalism, Language Bilingualism (Arabic), and Performance (Arts & Athletics) to ensure each student is future-ready through a highly relevant educational program.
4) ASDMUN 2020 In February, ASD students welcomed delegates, officers, and volunteers to engage in the fifth annual ASD Model United Nations (ASDMUN) Conferences. The 2020 theme, Opportunity: Supporting Solutions to Global Problems, inspired delegates to adapt and contribute to the world with an open mind.
2) Inclusion ASD has selected a variety of sensory support tools to help students increase their readiness for learning. These include tools to help students who need stronger/more sensory input, tools to attenuate sensory input for students who are overwhelmed or distracted by it, and positioning tools.
5) MS Maker Space The new Middle School Maker Space allows for openended, inquiry-based learning experiences. Through hands-on materials and technology, students can explore their individual interests, address relevant and authentic real-world problems, be creative, and learn about the environmental impact of what they create.
3) Bee Garden Through the Zayed Sustainability Prize—awarded for our student-led efforts in sustainability—and the generous donation of an ASD parent, ASD added the Bee Garden to our list of extraordinary learning spaces. Students carry out hive inspections, plant pollen-rich plants, and ensure the bees are well fed and protected.
6) Sustainability Initiatives 2019-20 was another year of community support for our work in sustainability and service learning. Funding in part from the Annual Giving Fund continued to maintain and enhance our Sustainable Garden, Bee Garden, and Edible Education programs.
The American School of Dubai’s mission is to challenge and inspire each student to achieve their dreams and to become a passionate learner prepared to adapt and contribute in a rapidly changing world.
