CHAIRMAN'S WELCOME Good evening and welcome to the NFU Sports ground for tonight’s game against our opponents Coventry Copsewood and may I extend a warm welcome to the players, officials and supporters of Coventry Copsewood and hope we all enjoy a good game. May I remind you all here tonight of the COVID Rules that are marked around the ground and please ensure that you are following the instructions accordingly and when entering the clubhouse/ marquee, you must wear a mask until seated and all service within these 2 areas is table service only so please wave your flag and a member of staff will serve you. Last Saturdays game v Stapenhill saw the team back to winning ways and a good al round performance saw them run out 3-1 winners in the end. The Knights have started well under Anthony too despite the loss last Saturday against Sileby, we still have to remind ourselves that the team are playing against mainly first teams in the Premier Division of the Senior league and that we are in effect a reserve side. I know that doesn’t matter to the players as they are good enough to compete and win games as they have shown and it is a reminder of how far we have come as a club. This Saturday sees the first team travel away in the FA Vase and I am sure they are all looking forward to the trip as much as we all look forward to the FA Vase competitions and lets hope we put ourselves into the next round and go on a nice run in the competition. All that remains is to wish the team luck tonight and thank you all for your continued support it really does make a difference to the players and the club and we all appreciate it. Regards Stuart Bonser Club Chairman Ps – if you are visiting the ground by car please DO NOT OBSTRUCT the junction to Cambrian Way by parking on the grass/path verge as this is both dangerous and you could get a fixed penalty notice from the Council and or Police. vs Coventry Copsewood | Tuesday 6th October 2020 | www.ashbyivanhoefc.co.uk

FIRST TEAM UPDATE Hello all. Welcome back to the NFU. Our last two away games have brought us mixed fortunes. Our midweek game v Leicester Road proved a very tough test. The opposition were very well organised and they executed their game plan and style of play very effectively. Their group have been together for a few years now and the cohesion throughout the team was clear to see. On the other side of the coin we had been together as a group for 6 games. To me that was the only difference. Technically there was nothing between the two sides. Although it was a tough defeat to take we draw positives that as we progress and improve together, we will be more than a match for these teams in the future. I was interested to see how we'd respond in our game at Stapenhill who have started the season fairly well. It is always a very tough game over there and that's how it proved to be. We were 1-0 down at half time and neither side had created many opportunities. In the second half we dominated and came away with a 1-3 victory. Our 3 strikers all scored and contributed but the overall performance from the team was much improved and our technical ability was matched by our level of desire and effort. That was very pleasing to see. Today we are pitted against Coventry Copsewood. Another tough test but one we hope to overcome as we continue with the hectic schedule. Welcome to our opposition today. I hope you all enjoy the game. Regards Andy Gray FIRST TEAM UPDATE SPONSORED BY

IN OPPOSITION TODAY - COVENTRY COPSEWOOD The club was formed in 1922 by employees of Peel Connor, and was known as the 'Connor'. They played in the Coventry District League until 1926 when due to an amalgamation with Magnito Ltd, they were renamed Magnet FC. They continued playing under this name until 1934 when they changed again to GEC (Cov) FC. This name stuck for longer, lasting until the 1970s when they became GPT (Coventry) FC, and then changed again in 1999 to Marconi (Coventry) FC, and then when Marconi sold off their land in 2006, it became Coventry Copsewood FC.
During its early years, the team played in the District and Works League, and had large success in the post war years, and then again in the 1970s when they won their league's internal cup four times, the Coventry Evening Telegraph Cup three years running and the Birmingham Junior Cup twice. In 1993 the club applied to join the Midland Football Combination. They finished 5th in each of their first five years in Division Two, but gained promotion due to their facilities. In the 1996–97 season they did the double in Division One, and were promoted to the Premier Division, where they currently play.
In the early part of the 21st century manager Paul Mills led the club to several finishes near the top of the table, and qualification to the later stages of their cup competitions, being runners up in the Telegraph Cup twice, winning the Coventry Charity Cup three times and winning the Tony Allden Cup. Since then, with the departure of Mills, they underwent a rebuilding process and finished mid-table in 2005–06, but slipped to near the bottom of the division in 2006–07. In 2008–09 they reached the final of the Coventry Telegraph Cup, losing to local rivals Nuneaton Griff on penalties at the Ricoh Arena. They also had an improved finish in the Midland Combination, finishing ninth. The reserve side were crowned champions of Coventry Alliance Two for 2008–09. They also have the 3rd highest number of teams entered in the Coventry Minor league with 18 teams ranging from u-7 to u-16.
The team play their home games at Allard Way, which is often used for local cup finals. Although around the pitch there is one small stand and a small covered shelter behind one goal. The team do have a large (for their level of football) two storey club house which they share with the other sports clubs which together make up the Copsewood Sports and Social Club. vs Coventry Copsewood | Tuesday 6th October 2020 | www.ashbyivanhoefc.co.uk

ASHBY KNIGHTS UPDATE Cup Game V Afc North Kilworth 5-1 Victory. We made a few changes to freshen up the team and give time to the lads who hadn’t had as much football as they like a good run out. The lads really impressed on the night. After rushing the play and trying to force it too much, it took us till ¾ way through the 1st half to get the breakthrough. After half time we settled down as the pressure was off after getting the 1st goal; we showed we were the better team and started to open them freely. The goals came in the 2nd half to back up a good strong attacking performance as we finished 5-1 winners. Goals scored by T.Simms, A.Hulley, S.Beck, B.Windridge, L.Savoaia. 4th League game V FC Khalsa 4-1 win away. On a cold, wet, miserable day a strong start was needed. A strong start is what we got, With Mcallister heading in from a corner. After the goal we started to get a little sloppy and let them get back on the ball but with some strong defending it stayed 1-0 at halftime. The same words were said during half time, asking the lads to “relax on the ball a little and play with some more composure, we could get ourselves a few goals here”. Early into the 2nd half we got the 2nd goal and we thought ‘yes we will kick on here and the goals will flow’. The goals did flow but the play became sloppy again and FC Khalsa got themselves back in the game. That put a gentle rocket up us and we ended up finishing the game 4-1 with goals from Hankin getting a 2nd and Bogdan getting the other. Overall performance was average but we got the 3 points. 5th league game V Hathern 1-0 victory at home. After a tough previous game at their place, we knew we had to improve. The game started with both sides making chances and if I am honest they had the better chances with Byron making a couple of top quality saves to keep it at 0-0. Half time came and the instructions were to “keep battling, dig in and just believe we will get the breakthrough”. That’s exactly what we did, we battled our way through the 2nd half and got the deserved goal through a towering header at the back post from a corner, scored by James grouse. The battle continued after that with both teams creating chances but neither could find a way through and the game finished 1-0 making it 4 wins in a row. 6th Game v Sileby 4-0 Loss at home. After 4 wins in a row we were on a high. It was always going to be a tough game against a Sileby team who had 4 wins from 4 themselves. The game started with quality play from both sides, both teams looking dangerous going forward. We thought we were certain to score when T.Harkin connected a volley sweetly but the Sileby made a top class save to somehow keep the ball out. Minutes later they won a soft penalty which they scored from. It went down hill after that; we stopped competing all over the pitch, they were 1st and second to every ball, stronger in the tackle and ran away with the game winning 4-0. It probably should have been more if it wasn’t for Byron keeping the score somewhat respectable at 4-0. Lessons were certainly learned after the game. We look to bounce straight back on Thursday at home agaisnt Fleckney. Anthony Hurd Ashby Ivanhoe Knights Manager

ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club was founded in 1948 and play their home matches at the NFU Sports Ground, Lower Packington Road, Ashby de la Zouch in Leicestershire. This is the clubs new home from the beginning of the 2012/2013 season. Since being founded in 1948 up until the end of the 2011/2012 season the clubs previous home was at Hood Park also in Ashby de la Zouch. The club currently consists of Two adult teams and Twelve sides in the Junior section. The first team play in the Midland Football League Division One, with the Knights in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division. In the 2008/2009 season the club formed a Youth Team (Under 18’s) side who play in the Leicestershire Midweek Floodlit Youth League on Wednesday nights. A Sunday team was re-introduced for this season and they play in the Burton Sunday League Division Four. The club’s junior sides ranging from Under 7’s through to Under 18’s play in the Burton Junior Football League and the Tamworth Junior Football Leagues. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 2009/2010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/11 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but had to settle for runners-up on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 of the Pyramid system playing in the East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League. It was a close title race with the top three all finishing level on points with Ashby third on goal difference. The Reserves were also promoted to the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. 2014/2015 saw Ashby compete at Step 6 for the first time and they had a very good season and secured a top six finish in the East Midlands Counties League which featured victories against all of the sides above them. The Reserve side were involved in a tight title race and it went down to a last day decider against Lutterworth Athletic Reserves but despite the result going against them on the day they were still promoted for the second season in succession and will play at Step 7 in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division for 2015/2016. 2015/2016 saw Ashby have another fine season and they mounted a strong title challenge and they led the East Midlands Counties League for the majority of the season before finally finishing in third place. That saw them assured of a first ever appearance in the FA Cup for the 2016/2017 season where the aim again will be to push for promotion to Step 5. The 2016-17 season was the most memorable in the history of Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club. For the very first time in the clubs history they were accepted to play in the most famous club competition in the world, The FA Cup. It turned into a thrilling journey with higher ranked opponents of Quorn and vs Coventry Copsewood | Tuesday 6th October 2020 | www.ashbyivanhoefc.co.uk
