ood evening and welcome to tonight’s game against Stapenhill FC and may I extend a warm welcome to the players, officials and supporters of Stapenhill FC and hope we all enjoy a good game. As you will see this programme is dedicated to Eric Avins who sadly died on Saturday 28th August. This cane a s Shute shock to Erics family and our thoughts are with Karen, Robbie and Mollie during this very difficult time for them. We felt, as a club, that it was appropriate to use tonight’s game to join in our thanks for Eric’s life as he played a role in both clubs. We will start this evening with a minutes applause for Eric and we are joined tonight by his son and best friend Robbie who followed in his dads footsteps to manage at Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club. There are a few pictures of Eric’s time with Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club in tonight’s programme along with words from the club president and personal friend and Richard Waldrum who is the Chairman of Marlborough Rovers who again Eric was involved with and Richard shares his memories in his notes. I am sure those of you who are here tonight that
knew Eric will have your own personal memories and I’m sure there all filled with what a great fella Eric was and one that knew his football too. The family have confirmed that Eric's funeral will be held on Tuesday 21st September at 10:30am Bretby Crematorium. Let’s all have our own memories of Eric tonight and don’t forget his commitment to the game will live on forever. Enjoy the game and RIP Eric. Ps – if you are visiting the ground by car please DO NOT OBSTRUCT the junction to Cambrian Way by parking on the grass/path verge as this is both dangerous and you could get a fixed penalty notice from the Council and or Police.

FIRST TEAM UPDATE Hello all. I hope you enjoyed our recent 8-1 win v Khalsa. I certainly did. It was an entertaining game and I thought we scored some excellent goals. The first of which was by 'one of our own' , Luke Thorogood. Myself and the entire club are delighted to have him back in our ranks. He certainly had a great impact on the game. As did our strikers. Sam Grouse chipping in with one goal and several assists and of course another match ball went to Jordan Wilson as he netted four with one assist too. It was a very good team performance from all involved despite having to make some enforced changes.
Our home form has been perfect with four wins from our four games but we realise that tonight represents our toughest challenge so far as we welcome Stapenhill to the NFU. They have had an excellent start to the season and are currently undefeated. Today we hope to change that.
Again, everyone 'stepped up to the plate' and performed very well.
It will be a tough game but i hope we can keep up or winning home form and secure the three points.
The squad is still missing four players but is slowly getting back to full strength.

STAPENHILL Stapenhill Football Club formed in 1947, and ten years after formation joined the Leicestershire Senior League Division Two found immediate success. Gaining promotion in our debut season, and winning the Division One Championship the following two seasons. We remained in that division, apart from a single season (1971/1972) in Division Two. Winning the top flight now renamed the Premier Division twice more in 1986/1987 and 1988/1989. Then joining the Midland Combination Premier Division, staying there for five seasons. Until becoming a founding member of the Midland Alliance, where the club remained until resigning in January 2002. Later that year The Swans joined the Leicestershire Senior League, and got promoted as runners up into the Premier Division. In 2007/2008, Stapenhill were members of the Midland Alliance, but after a fire ravaged the home stadium, the club were forced to close down. The club reformed in 2009 and rejoined the Leicestershire Senior League. After winning that league, promotion to the East Midlands Counties League followed. We then moved sideways from the East Midlands Counties League to Midland Football League Division one in the 2018/2019 season.

CLUB PRESIDENT Everyone at Ashby Ivanhoe has been deeply shocked and saddened to hear the news of Eric Avins’ passing over the weekend. Eric was a central part of the club both as a player in the ‘70’s (hard but fair) and later as a Manager (professional, passionate and a winner) in the ‘80’s. He had a wealth of knowledge of local football and was happy to share that to assist in the progression of the players he worked with. Always great company, Eric was universally liked and respected and will always be remembered with a smile. The club have been inundated with messages from Eric’s old team mates, many relating particular stories and memories of the great times we had as well as a message from our friends at Marlborough Rovers where Eric was a hugely popular part of their team too. Everyone at Ashby Ivanhoe send their love and support to Karen, Robbie and Molly at this very sad time. RIP Eric.

Eric, like many other parents got involved with Marlborough Rovers because his son Rob joined the club. Eric would be around Marlborough Rovers from then until the very sad news of his death. Eric was part of the coaching team who would go down in the History of Marlborough in 2007 when we had our first ever boys County Champions. Always happy to offer advice and our coaches were always happy to accept it. Away from the pitch Eric became a family friend and on behalf of Myself, my wife Julie and everyone associated with Marlborough we would like to send our love and best wishes to Karen, Rob and Molly at this very sad time. CLUB HISTORY
A
shby Ivanhoe Football Club was founded in 1948 and play their home matches at the NFU Sports Ground, Lower Packington Road, Ashby de la Zouch in Leicestershire. This is the clubs new home from the beginning of the 2012/2013 season. Since being founded in 1948 up until the end of the 2011/2012 season the clubs previous home was at Hood Park also in Ashby de la Zouch. The club currently consists of Two adult teams and Twelve sides in the Junior section. The first team play in the Midland Football League Division One, with the Knights in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division. In the 2008/2009 season the club formed a Youth Team (Under 18’s) side who play in the Leicestershire Midweek Floodlit Youth League on Wednesday nights. A Sunday team was reintroduced for this season and they play in the Burton Sunday League Division Four. The club’s junior sides ranging from Under 7’s through to Under 18’s play in the Burton Junior Football League and the Tamworth Junior Football Leagues. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 2009/2010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/11 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have
also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but had to settle for runners-up on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 of the Pyramid system playing in the East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League. It was a close title race with the top three all finishing level on points with Ashby third on goal difference. The Reserves were also promoted to the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. 2014/2015 saw Ashby compete at Step 6 for the first time and they had a very good season and secured a top six finish in the East Midlands Counties League which featured victories against all of the sides above them. The Reserve side were involved in a tight title race and it went down to a last day decider against Lutterworth Athletic Reserves but despite the result going against them on the day they were still promoted for the second season in succession and will play at Step 7 in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division for 2015/2016. 2015/2016 saw Ashby have another fine season and they mounted a strong title challenge and they led the East Midlands Counties League for the majority of the season before finally finishing in third place. That saw them assured of a first ever appearance in the FA Cup for the 2016/2017 season where the aim again will be to push for promotion to Step 5. The 2016-17 season was the most memorable in the history of Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club. For the very first time in the clubs history they were accepted to play in the most famous club competition in the world, The FA Cup. It turned into a thrilling journey with higher

CLUB HISTORY ranked opponents of Quorn and Loughborough Dynamo knocked out before Ashby fell to Ilkeston in the 1st Qualifying Round. Prior to the Ilkeston defeat Ashby received a visit from the FA Cup which was paraded through the town centre visiting local sponsors before players and spectators had the opportunity to view the cup at the NFU Sports Ground. The league season was inconsistent with a strong finish to the season seeing the team finish in tenth place. The season did end with a first appearance in the final of the Jenkins & Jenkins League Cup but Dunkirk overturned a one goal deficit late on to see Ashby end as runners-up. The 2017-18 season saw the 1st team finish Seventeenth in the East midland Counties and the Reserves finished in the bottom Two and relegation to Division One. 2018-19 saw the 1st team finish in the bottom half of the East Midlands Counties Football League and The Reserves now called the Knights finish runners up in the Senior League Division One and promoted back to step 7 in the Senior League Premier Division. In the 2019-20 season Ashby first team faced a fresh challenge when they were moved to the Midland Premier League Division one by the FA in a shake up of the NLS, the season as we all know was expunged due to the pandemic. The
Reserves league also had all results expunged. As a club we are now looking to but our ground and have since the end of the previous season become a CIC club.
