As a player, I enjoyed many games against Anstey Nomads in the Leicestershire Senior League and it is now a pleasure to welcome them to our ground in the EMCL. Off the field..... I didn’t get to watch much of the game last week against Borrowash Victoria as matchdays at home become busier and busier. Last Saturday was also the first Saturday that the club took back the responsibility of the Bar and Catering function from Pete and Anna and I would personally like to thank Pete and Anna for everything they have done to help the club over the last 2 years as they have been contributors to much more than just the bar and catering side of the club. In fact Pete has helped lay slabs, tile kitchens, paint and sponsor a kit and recognition for his efforts should be applauded. As a club we will be recognising their contribution today at the game. As we embark on a new challenge of operating the Club room, you will see a few changes over the coming weeks which will include re-branding and décor. Additionally we will be introducing a range of hot/cold snacks and drinks and your feedback would be appreciated and if you have any suggestions of what you would like to see available on matchdays then speak with the girls at the counter. Each month we also plan to host Family Nights on the last Saturday of each month with a disco or singer to entertain you. This goes along with our feeling that we are a family club and target our activities in this way. We welcome Chloe and Lucy to the Club who will be assisting on matchdays in the club room and thanks go to Karen and Marie for their help last week too. On the field..... It was really pleasing to note that last weekend (I think for the first time in history) we fielded an Ashby Ivanhoe FC team on both am and pm times, Saturday and Sunday in the town. It started with the Under 16’s kicking off their season on Hood Park on Saturday morning with the Under 12’s playing at the NFU. Then came the 1st team at home in the afternoon which again was very well supported. On Sunday we had the Under 15’s at the NFU and the Sunday Seniors on Hood Park which was then followed by the Under 18’s Sunday in the afternoon on Hood Park. The club now has 16 teams representing it with 3 venues in the town, The NFU, Hood Park and Western Park, with our other junior teams playing at central venues. Keep your eyes on the website and come along and support all of our teams if you can in the town. Inside this programme you will see a recruitment advert for players for our Under 13’s team and if you know anyone that would like to join the team then feel free to contact the Coaches, Jack and Phil, or bring them along to the training session on Thursdays 5pm – 6pm at the ground. Today is also a proud day for me as my son, Kieran, will have played his first game for the club this morning with our Under 10’s. Kieran has been attending our soccer school for the last 18 months and this year he decided he wanted to give the team a try – good luck Kieran, you’re my star. Thank you for your continued support of the teams at home and let’s hope we get back to winning ways. Stuart Bonser - Club Chairman

FIRST TEAM UPDATE I would like to give a warm welcome to the players and officials of Anstey Nomads FC. Reflecting on last week’s performance against Borrowash Victoria; it was a disappointing day, the game was very much even until they scored, and as we all know taking your chances makes all the difference to a team’s overall confidence. The problem that we have at the moment is we have no team balance, as it’s been difficult to replace Calvin Dickenson. In addition, our wide players are not delivering the service that the forward players require; equally we are not decisive enough in our attacking play as a team. All too many times, individuals are taking one too many touches on the ball or trying to dribble past an entire team themselves. It may be exciting for the supporters to watch but as a management team it’s very frustrating and leads to the detriment of the overall team play and result. This must change and my management team will work hard with the players in order to change our inconsistent approaches to football matches. I would like to welcome Luke Tozer, Daniel Sharp and Chris Saunders to the club. I played at Holbrook St. Michael’s with Tozer, Sharp and Saunders and I’m sure when they have settled into the club they will quickly become very popular amongst our supporters. I hope you all enjoy today’s game. Anthony Hemmings First Team Manager

MATCH ACTION VS BORROWASH VICTORIA ASHBY IVANHOE 0 BORROWASH VICTORIA 3
Massingham 23, Coxon 50, Thorogood OG 85 East Midlands Counties Football League Saturday 6th September 2014
Ashby Ivanhoe saw their inconsistent form continue as they were beaten 3-0 at home by Borrowash Victoria. Ashby’s performance was well below that seen a week previous against Arnold Town and the visitors capitalised to take home the three points. They took the lead midway inside the first half and after extending that lead shortly after the break Ashby did have a brief spell of pressure before an own goal from Luke Thorogood five minutes from time completed the scoring. The first quarter of the match saw an even contest with neither side causing the opposition too many problems and the best chance came for Ashby on 10 minutes when a cross into the area from Phil Gibson found Luke Tozer, who had scored twice in the Arnold win, and his header towards the far post cleared the bar. The visitors took the lead midway through the first half and it came from a free kick which was needlessly given away by Ashby midway inside their own half close to the right touchline and the ball was played deep into the area and a header at the back post across goal was headed in from close range from Phil Massingham. Ashby tried to respond and they had a chance to level on 27 minutes when Elliott Bott picked up the loose ball just inside the Borrowash half and went on a run towards goal and after going past a couple of defenders his shot was blocked but the ball ran out to Thorogood on the left of the area and the keeper did well to save his shot after it took a deflection off a defender and the score remained 1-0 at the break. The second half started with Ashby looking to get back on level terms and four minutes in they almost levelled when a free kick from a similar position to where Borrowash scored their opener was played into the area from Bott and a powerful header was well saved by the keeper and the rebound was wide of the near post but just a minute later it became 2-0 to the visitors when straight from the goal kick they attacked and Ross Coxon cut inside from the left before sending a shot beyond keeper Chris Hodge. Ashby again attempted to respond immediately and inside the next five minutes they had a couple of good chances to reduce the arrears when firstly Chris Nettel sent a powerful effort towards goal from just outside the area and with the ball heading for the top corner the keeper produced another great save and then just moments after coming on substitute Daniel Sharp got onto the end of a header which Nettel had won on the edge of the area but he failed to hit the target. The final goal of the match came with five minutes remaining when from the left hand side the ball was crossed into the area before finding the net off Thorogood. It wasn’t the best performance for Ashby against an experienced East Midlands Counties League side and they will again look to bounce back when they host Anstey Nomads this afternoon.

RESERVE TEAM UPDATE So we have played a 6th of the league fixtures already, 6 games, 5 league and 1 league cup, we find ourselves joint top of the league on goal difference, and our only defeats coming to the same side, Aslockton, 1 in the league and 1 in the cup, who are actually unbeaten. Albeit, I was not happy with either of the Aslockton performances and neither were the players, but we have bounced back well from those back to back defeats with 2 superb away wins at Lutterworth Athletic Reserves followed by our old club rivals Hathern. All in all, if I had been offered 12 points from a possible 15 from the first 5 league games I would have more than taken it. Such a good start in a brand new league has given myself and the lads the belief to do well this season. The attitude, commitment and work rate has been outstanding. Every game has been close but we have come out on top on almost every occasion and this is fantastic to see. All we must make sure now is to carry this form on into the winter months, games will get even tougher with some big fixtures on the horizon but I have massive belief in my squad of players and expect much of same going forward. What we have done though is set the bar high early, given ourselves a great platform to work on, and now we must make sure we take this form forward and stay right up there. It is still early days, but if we carry this form and effort on throughout the season, who knows where it could take us. I for one have one position in mind. 1st! Craig Savidge Reserve Team Manager

UNDER 18S UPDATE Firstly may I extend a warm welcome to the supporters, officials and players of Anstey Nomads FC for today’s fixture. The Youth team played their second league match a week last Wednesday and we continued our winning start to the season with a 3-0 victory over Barrow Town Youth. The goals came from Elliott Beldon, Jamie Fitzgerald and Ryan McMenamin who all followed up from their goals against Holwell in the first match. We were not in action this Wednesday just gone but this coming week we are at home again as we face early strugglers Guru Nanak Gurdwara Youth 2014 and it would again be great to see a good crowd down at ‘The Fortress’ of Hood Park as we look to make it three wins from three. Well after last week’s result hopefully they can bounce back to form this afternoon and may I wish Tony and the boys all the best today in what promises to be an enthralling fixture. SUNDAY TEAM UPDATE It’s been a tough start to the season for the Sunday side, the opening game not going to plan against Winshill Parish as a costly early mistake saw us one nil down in the first minute of play. A second followed 20 minutes later after we had wasted some good opportunities of our own. Things went from bad to worse in the second half as we lost Craig Walsh, Pete Bright, Nathan Yeomans and Michael Simpson to injury as were forced to use all or substitutes and finish the game with 10 men allowing the visitors to eventually run out 5-0 winners. There were signs of improvement the following week as we matched last season’s Division 3 runners up Alrewas Athletic for most of the first half but our inability to defend corners cost us as the visitors went in two nil up after we failed to defend two of them. A push to get back into the game was ultimately in vein as Alrewas added the 3rd on the break after we had enjoyed some good possession in the 2nd half. Last Sunday we once again saw a marked improvement in our play however our failure to put away at least 12 clear cut chances cost us dearly, especially as our opponents Woodville scored on the break after two such failures. Quite how we found ourselves 4-0 down towards the end of the game we were unsure as if we had been as clinical as our opponents we could well have had 10 goals ourselves however there were some positives to take from the game as we scored our first goal of the season in the dying seconds, an extremely rare goal for myself from left full back following a corner. With all this behind us we look to get our season started in the coming weeks as we take on last week’s opponents in the league at Mount Pleasant Rec, Woodville this Sunday looking to have learnt our lesson about being wasteful in front of goal, and we look to continue our good form against Shobnall Dynamo on the 28th September at Hood Park.

DOWN MEMORY LANE WITH THE MOG This is the last home game for a few weeks and so we’ll be on our travels for the next few Saturdays. For me that’s been a really fun side of the season so far, our visit to Gedling Miners Welfare was very enjoyable and their facilities certainly gave us some ideas about what we can achieve at The NFU. Stapenhill was not quite such fun, of course the fact that we got spanked 5-0 didn’t help but also the fact that the game was played in torrential rain and part of the stand fell to pieces above our heads completed a miserable Bank holiday. As we enjoy our ever improving surroundings here at The NFU many of you will recall when our facilities were less salubrious. In the 70s and 80s at our Hood Park base we had the legendary wooden pavilion with the holes in the floor and it’s occasionally working showers. The posts were stored under the rickety structure and were made of steel and it was a World’s Strongest Man challenge to lug them to each end of the park! Thankfully in the mid 90s with promotion to the Leicester Senior League we were able to move within the Leisure Centre as part of their extension to their facilities to which we contributed hugely via Football Foundation grant aid. We can look back and laugh at some of the away changing facilities we “endured” in the early days. The shed on stilts in a corner of a field in remote Walton on Trent was always my favourite. In Burton’s Sunday League you very often got changed in a pub and when the cleaner let us in at The Anglesey one morning and then foolishly left us alone Karl “Mappa” Thomas famously suggested “well we might as well have one whilst we’re here”! I’m not at the game today as it’s Toz’s 60th birthday and we’re taking the grumpy old git to Chester Races (natch) Enjoy the game and good luck to Tony and the boys. Dave Morris Club President

ASHBY IVANHOE FC SUPPORTERS CLUB A warm welcome to everyone here today for Ivanhoe’s match against Anstey Nomads here at the NFU Sports Ground. Another disappointing display at home last week against Borrowash Victoria resulting in a 3-0 defeat. Why? I don’t know we’ll have to put it down to just one of those games. Now to todays match against Anstey Nomads who are just below us in the league so todays match will be interesting and my forecast for today is a 3-1 victory for the Ivanhoe. Good result for the reserves last week and up to second place after a 3-1 away win at Hathern and good luck in today’s away game at Barrow Town Reserves. As you all probably know two of my grand children now don the Ivanhoe colours on a Saturday morning. Harry plays for the U9’s and Matthew’s team, U11’s, played really well beating Doveridge 7-1. Well done lads. Don’t forget if have any comments regarding the club please e-mail me at mh.buckley@btinternet.com Good luck to all our teams this weekend Mick Buckley - Supporters Club Chairman

THE OPPOSITION ANSTEY NOMADS The Nomads were formed in 1947 and were champions of the Leicestershire Senior League in the seasons 1951-52 and 1953-54. The following season the club recorded its highest ever attendance of 4,500 against the Athenian League side Hayes in the 2nd round of the FA Amateur Cup. But just one year later the club decided to join the Central Alliance. In 1966-67 the East Midlands Regional League was formed, mainly from Clubs in the Central Alliance, and of the six seasons the Nomads spent in this League, they gained a top four place in three of them. Returning to the Leicestershire Senior League in 1973-74, Nomads became Division Two Champions at their first attempt and were promoted back to the top flight. After being runners-up in 1978-79, 1979-80 and 1980-81 they became Champions in 1981-82 and 1982-83. In 1990-91 just one goal put the Nomads behind the leaders and in 1994-95 the Nomads created history by winning both the Leicestershire FA Senior Cup and the Junior Cup in the same season. In 2008-09 the Nomads had one of their most successful seasons by winning the Leicestershire Senior League, The Battle of Britain Cup, The Rolleston Charity Cup and The Beacon Bitter League Cup. The Reserve team also won their League in the Leicestershire Combination and were promoted to Division One. Our first season in the EMCL in 2009-10 saw the Nomads finish bottom but our good reputation helped us not get relegated and we stayed in the EMCL before finishing 12th in 2010-11. Nomads entered the FA Cup for the first time in their history for season 2011-12 and they went out at the Extra Preliminary Round stage losing 2-1 to Bugbrooke St Michael and they finished 9th in the league. The Reserves avoided relegation and played in Division 1 of the Combination. The 2013-14 season was a time of transition for the Nomads and despite some struggle they managed to remain in the EMCL. Nomads also had their first Under 18’s Floodlit team and they had an impressive season with several players stepping up to the senior sides. This season will see Nomads continue to play in the EMCL with Rob Harris taking the helm. The Reserves will play in the Leicestershire Senior League Division 1 and Nomads’ continue their Youth development with the Under 18’s Floodlit side, and will also have a new Under 16’s side.

ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club was founded in 1948 and play their home matches at the NFU Sports Ground, Lower Packington Road, Ashby de la Zouch in Leicestershire. This is the clubs new home from the beginning of the 2012/2013 season. Since being founded in 1948 up until the end of the 2011/2012 season the clubs previous home was at Hood Park also in Ashby de la Zouch. The club currently consists of three adult teams and a youth team. The first team play in the East Midlands Counties League, with the Reserves in the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. In the 2008/2009 season the club formed a Youth Team (Under 18’s) side who play in the Leicestershire Midweek Floodlit Youth League on Wednesday nights. A Sunday team was re-introduced for the 2012/2013 season and they play in the Burton Sunday League Division Two. The club also has 11 junior sides ranging from Under 9’s through to Under 17’s who play in the Burton Junior Football League, Tamworth Junior Football League and the Derby City League. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 20092010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/11 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but had to settle for runners-up on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League. It was a close title race with the top three all finishing level on points with Ashby third on goal difference. The Reserves were also promoted to the Leicestershire Senior League Division One.
