The Positive Ageing Expo in Ashburton aims to offer answers to every question you might have as you near retirement. Held at the Hotel Ashburton, the Expo will follow the same format as Expos held in Christchurch by Age Concern Canterbury. Ashburton Age Concern president Trish Small said it was not always easy for the ageing population to find out what was available about various issues. “The Expo is an opportunity to have a good look at those businesses.” Site holders range from health professionals, Community Law Canterbury, bankers, IT specialists, support agencies, service clubs, retirement villages and rest homes, Ashburton District Council, mobility providers, government agencies and emergency services. Starting at 10am on Thursday, March 5, for just a gold coin entry, the Expo promises to give practical advice. Visitors can also enter into a draw for two upcoming shows at the Ashburton Trust Event Centre. Light refreshments will be on sale for all those attending, and there is easy, convenient parking. There will also be demonstrations during the day of steady as you go exercises that aim to prevent falls at home, as well as a demo by Age Concern Ashburton’s renowned Hip Hop group. “We are very excited to be bringing this to our local community. We hope that the wonderful response from site holders will be reciprocated by the Ashburton public.” Although the Expo is geared towards those reaching or at retirement, Trish says it will be beneficial to all who have worries about elderly loved ones. So get along to the Positive Ageing Expo, held at the Hotel Ashburton on Thursday, March 5 from 10am to 3pm.
