FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH HOMECOMING The First Baptist Church of Ashland was founded 125 years ago. The original church cost $1,722 to construct. The current church was built in 1905, at a cost of $9,200--including furnishings. The Christian Education building was added in 1994, costing $275,000. The tornado of April 1999, nearly demolished the addition, but it has been rebuilt and is in use not only by the church, but many area groups and family gatherings as well. A "Homecoming" celebration is being planned, and everyone is invited to attend. The Kick-off is planned for Sunday, January 23, with "The Chosen Ones," an area gospel group singing at both the 10:30 a.m. service and a concert at 2 p.m. Rev. Wayne Brackett, pastor from 19571961 plans to attend that day,as do Rev. David and Margie Holland, who has served as interm pastor two different times. A potluck will be enjoyed at noon. On Saturday, January 29, the gospel groups from the Athens area, whom many of you have enjoyed in the past at the annual fish fry, will bring us their music in the late afternoon. A Bar-B-Q dinner will be served that evening, as others from the area, as well as visitors, add their songs to the festivities. Former pastor, Ken and Millie Dunn will be here for the week-end. We are hoping to convince him to blend his voice with others from our church. The Hollands will be here, as well as Rev. Lucas Dunn, Ken & Millie's son, who is a pastor in the Quad Cities area, and Rev. Dustin Fulton, who received his early Bible training in our church. Final plans will be made soon. Call the church office, check with a member, or watch for fliers in the area to learn the details. Come join the fun as we celebrate our heritage.
