In your lives you must think and act like Christ Jesus.

- Phillippians 2.5 NCV Modern culture encourages individuals to fight for their rights, push their way to the top, and always look out for number one. Jesus demonstrated a different way to approach life, with the attitude of a servant who lays aside his rights for the benefit of others. In his letter to the church at Philippi, Paul challenged the Philippians to make a counterculture choice and to follow Jesus’ example.

To understand what it means to have the attitude and actions of Jesus alive and working within you, read the Gospels. Note how Jesus treated people. Note his patience, his compassion, and his sacrificial perspective on life. He voluntarily put earthly limitations on his heavenly form in order to bless others. He continually asked his Father for “thy will,” not “my will,” to be accomplished.

Out of anyone who ever lived on this earth, Jesus had more reason to demand that others put him on a pedestal than anyone else. He deserved to be honored and served. Instead, out of an attitude of humility, he chose to be the servant of all.

Your attitude influences your decisions and actions, and ultimate, the effect they have on the lives of others. A selfish, self-centered attitude will eventually lead to self-destruction. A humble, Godcentered attitude will lead to deeper personal peace and a greater positive impact on the world around you. It also will bring joy and honor to God, who dearly loves you. Help keep your attitude in check by keeping this in mind.

Love is the motivation behind the attitude that you are asked to emulate. The closer you draw to God, the deeper your love will grow and the more like Jesus your attitude will become.

A-C Central FFA Looking For Spring Plants & Perennials!

Do you have a flowerbed that is getting a little too crowded with those perennials? The A-C Central FFA is looking for spring plants and perennial donations that we can use at the school and for our spring sales. This winter there was a frost in the greenhouse and we are a little short on plants this year and we hope you can help. All donations will be welcomed! Donations can be dropped off at the greenhouse or call Jennifer Waters at 217-476-6025 or e-mail jwaters@accentral.us. Thank you for your continued support of our greenhouse project. The spring sale will be held April 16th in conjunction with the town garage sales from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

A-C Central Middle School Math-A-Thon Sets a Record Raises over $2,400 The middle school students at A-C Central (grades 5-8) have raised $2,413.10 for the children at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. This is the largest amount ever raised! This hospital treats children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases, regardless of financial need, and conducts research to find cures. There were 51 students participating this year. That is outstanding for a school of our size.

Over the last twelve years, A-C Central has raised $15,947.20 for this great cause. The Math-A-Thon sponsor is Carrie Jo Donnan.

The following student raised over $250: Izeyar Lincoln $264. She is getting a portable MP3 stereo speaker with FM scan radio, a certificate, t-shirt, one ticket to Six Flags, and a backpack.

The following students raised $125 up to $250: Kolby Vandenbergh $186 (game set), Hoaby Hoagland $125 (dartboard), Paul Price $125 (FM radio), and Logan DeFord $125 (dartboard). They will receive a certificate, tshirt, one ticket to Six Flags, a backpack and a special prize of their choice mentioned above.

The following students raised $75 up to $125: Phillip Wessel $109, Grace Danner $85, Austin Cuba $80, and Brock Pettit $77. They will receive a certificate, t-shirt, one ticket to Six Flags and a backpack. Phillip Wessel donated his ticket and backpack back to the children at St. Jude’s.

Be sure to check the expiration date of the Six Flags ticket. If possible, the tickets can be donated back to the 8th grade class for them to use on the 8th grade field trip.

A MESSAGE FOR THE FORMER FIREMEN

A MESSAGE TO THE KIDS WHO USE OUR FINE PARKS Several of us senior citizens take time out of our lives to help keep the town we love cleaned up a little. One of the biggest problems we have is how trashy the parks are after several (not all) teens throw bottles, cans, candy wrappers, beer cans, sandwiches boxes, and everything else they can throw on the ground. There are barrels in both parks, but evidently they don’t know what they are for.

Some of us older folks think maybe if these kids want to hang out in the parks maybe one of the parents should be with them. Oh, wait, these kids who trash the parks parents would say ―My kid wouldn’t do that!‖ This is part of the problem with these kids today. All you teenagers that use the parks PLEASE USE THE BARRELS!

For those of you who couldn’t make the Firemen’s Reunion last Sunday, you missed it! You missed a lot of laughs from us old guys. The meal was TERRIFIC and FREE. Some of the older guys had stories from the past and the firemen on the department now had a lot of laughs at the way it was run back then.

It was interesting how the first fire truck came about, and how far the department has come since then. It is really hi-tech!

I believe, and this is just my opinion, that we have the best fire department anywhere! I want to thank everyone who came and the present fire department who brought this about!

They will attend the 125th annual Ashland High School Alumni banquet at the AC Central Pete Gutman Memorial Gym that evening. They would like to extend an invitation to the classes before and after ours.

The month of March has kept the A-C Central FFA Chapter been quite busy! On March 4th, twentyfive female members of the chapter attended the Women Changing the Face of Agriculture Conference at Illinois State University in Bloomington. While there, they met with female leaders in the agriculture industry and made connections for the future. Internship and scholarship opportunities were also provided for the students. Prior to the conference, Lauren Pfaffe, Morgan Wessel, Teagan Smith, Kelsey Handy, Haley Pfaffe and Danielle Bright appeared on News Channel 20 to promote the event and met with meteorologist Joe Crain for their interviews that aired at the end of February.

Seven members also worked at the Illinois Products Expo in Springfield on March 5th to serve samples of Illinois Products, provide maintenance and work with the public. Members joined nearly 700 FFA members at the state capitol building on March 9th to provide agriculture commodity baskets and lunches to our legislators. Pictured are On this same day, members also delivered nearly forty flower arrangements to Walker Nursing Home in Virginia that were made by the A-C Central High School Horticulture Class and over 150 canned goods to the Cass County Food Bank from a previous food drive held in conjunction with local FFA chapters.

On March 11th we headed to Moline to visit the John Deere Pavilion and Harvester Works Plant. While there we saw combines in the making and learned more about the history of the company. Pictured are the forty chapter members to visited the plant.

Nine members of the chapter represented A-C Central at the District III Proficiency Awards on March 16th in Jacksonville. Pictured are Zach Fields - Equine Placement, Kelsey Handy Nursery Operations, Brandon Smith - Ag Education, Haley Pfaffe - Home & Community Development, Mrs. Waters, Jordan Keyes - Ag Mechanics, Stacey Eskew - Turfgrass Management, Teagan Smith - Environmental Science, Nathan Mahoney Swine Production Placement, and Morgan Wessel - Small Animal Care. Nathan, Teagan and Brandon were named winners for District III and will be eligible to compete in the State FFA Awards Contest at Urbana on April 2, 2011.

Steps to this award include our winners winning the Chapter and Sectional FFA 14 Awards.

Finally, the Envirothon team competed at John Wood Community College for the Region 8 Envirothon competition on March 23rd. Members included Kelsey Handy, Sarah Pherigo, Brandon Smith, Morgan Wessel and Teagan Smith. The team won the event for the second year in a row and will represent West Central Illinois at the state competition at Allerton Park in Monticello May 12-13th.

Upcoming events include our annual plant sales on April 16th along with State Proficiency Awards, District III Public Speaking and Livestock Judging!

Troop 125 Boy Scouts and Pack 125 Cub Scout participated in Scouting for Food.

They collected 190.5 pounds of food and supplies. We would like to thank everyone for your help.

A-C Central 8th Graders Attend Reality Store The 8th graders attended the ―Welcome to the Real World‖ event on Tuesday, March 22nd, 2011 at Hamilton’s in Jacksonville.

The Store, organized by the University of Illinois Extension Office, is designed to help students learn how to budget their money in real life situations. They chose a profession and what type of car and house they wanted to purchase. Then they were faced with cost of living expenses: buying groceries, paying for insurance, etc., and even some unexpected expenses throughout the day. They wrote a check for every expense. At the end of the day, the goal was to have a positive balance in their checking account. It was a great experience for all of the students to start understanding the importance of budgeting their money.

It was a busy, busy day on March 23 for A-C Central Band members! Band members and their director Kim Webster participated in the Cass County Solo Ensemble Contest hosted at Our Saviors' School in Jacksonville. Students were required to prepare a selection and also perform scales and basic rudiments for a judge. The judge then scored the students and awarded a Division 1 or a Division 2 ribbon. If you know any woman currently undergoing chemotherapy, please pass the word to her that there is a cleaning service that provides FREE housecleaning - once per month for 4 months while she is in treatment. All she has to do is sign up and have her doctor fax a note confirming the treatment. Cleaning for a Reason will have a participating maid service in her zip code area arrange for the service. This organization serves the entire USA and currently has 547 partners to help these women. It's our job to pass the word and let them know that there are people out there that care. Be a blessing to someone and pass this information along.

EPA AWARD WINNERS Four sixth grade students at A-C Central Jr. High were selected to receive special awards from the Environmental Protection Agency’s poster and poetry contest.

This contest was held for all 5th and 6th graders across the state of Illinois. The students prepared for the contest in Dena Leinberger’s Science class. Emily Koch was selected as one of the top 6 finalists in the Poetry/ Prose Contest and Phillip Wessel was selected as an honorable mention in the Poetry/Prose Contest. Emily will receive a $50.00 savings bond. Kirby Cowman was recognized in the top 50 for her Poetry/Prose and Erin Kelly was recognized in the top 50 for his Poster. All four students will be honored at a banquet in Springfield Saturday, April 2nd. Congratulations to all students!
