FROM THE DESK OF BECKY CANTY, A-C The beginning of this school year brings some very exciting new programs and initiatives. We have purchased our 7-12 grade students (and teachers) laptops. These laptops are pretty incredible: they have a stylus, slate, document camera, clickers, and several programs that will assist us in making teaching and learning an incredible adventure. Teachers can give quizzes and tests and a program will grade those for them. Mr. Pfaffe has already downloaded two of his textbooks (FOR FREE!). We will have WIFI available in the parking lots of Chandlerville and Ashland for students to access internet if they don't have it at home. We currently have WIFI throughout the Ashland facility. The teachers will be coming in for 4 days of professional development to learn how to effectively use these laptops. Mr. Bendorf, our technology administrator, has been working very hard to launch this initiative. Please check out our website for more information on these computers. Also, we are so proud to announce that we will have our own Pre-K program. Mrs. Rogers (elementary principal) and Mrs. Martin (elementary administrative assistant) have been hiring staff, preparing rooms, and working on curriculum for this program. Currently, we have 56 students enrolled! Thank you for your support and we encourage you to check our website: www.a-ccentral.us

A-C CENTRAL BOOSTER CLUB I hope everyone is having a great summer, I just wanted to bring everyone up to speed on a few things booster club related. As many of you are probably already aware of, the ACV Booster Club was dissolved as of 6/15/11, the funds were divided and AC Central and Virginia each received their half of the funds according to the by-laws that were set when the group was created. After discussion and input from others, it was decided that an AC Central Booster Club would be reformed to manage the funds and continue to support the student/ athletes at AC Central; Wendy Turner was voted in as Chairperson of the new booster club and I was voted to serve as secretary/treasurer for the next year. Some people have asked that with the new co-op what would be the need to maintain a separate booster club here at AC? We would definitely agree that things will be much different than in the past but the main reason for maintaining a separate booster club is to watch over the funds that were raised by ACV and AC Booster Clubs over the years and not just hand the funds directly over to PORTA at this time. We have had many discussions with the officers of the PORTA Booster Club and they have gone out of their way to welcome the AC community and agree with our decision to keep the funds separate at this time; Wendy and I attended the PORTA Boosters meeting on Wednesday and were appointed the AC representatives and will be working with their officers to cooperatively support the new venture. With that said, and I know some of us have done it already, please join the PORTA Booster Club; their memberships are $15 annually but that gets you free admission to 5 events during the 2011/2012 season. They will be set-up at the athletic informational meetings in August and I believe at some of the first few home games this fall, they also have a website established: http://portasportsboosters.org/. They also meet on the first Wednesday of every month and booster club members are welcome to attend, they are held in the PORTA commons which is just outside the high school gym where the open house was held. They are already making plans to have a few welcome events this fall to get everyone introduced and more details will come as the plans all come together. Brett Keyes Beverly L.
