Or maybe you have made your own “Bucket List” – the things you want to do before you “kick the bucket!” But even more important is the “Bucket List” that leads to eternal life. How many of these items have you experienced? The time is now.

4. Prayed for God’s will to be done?

The Pleasant Plains Community Club would like to thank all who came out and watched our Snap, Crackle, Pop Fireworks Extravaganza. The evening was gorgeous, but hot, and the fireworks went off without a hitch. We hope you all come back next year as plans will start to be made when our club resumes meetings in September.

A big thanks to the following – the Pleasant Plains Fire Department for being close at hand in case of any incidences, and the Pleasant Plains Police Department for directing traffic. Thank you to the Unit District #8 for letting the club use the soccer field for the fireworks and the staff who help with the field and parking lot lights and electric hook up. The club also wants to thank those who supported the Snap, Crackle, Pop Fireworks monetarily. Without financial support from the private sector and many fundraisers and hard work by our members, this would not be possible.

Another thank you to the members of our club who cooked and sold delicious ribeye sandwiches, sloppy joe’s and hot dogs. The food was awesome!

The A-C Central FFA Chapter has kept busy this July despite being on summer vacation!

Our members have been receiving honors through scholarships and we even have royalty among us. We are proud to announce that Krissy Simmons, a 2012 graduate of the A-C Central Ag Program, was named the Illinois Agri-Women Scholarship winner and will be receiving a $1,000 scholarship for this accomplishment.

Caseelynn Johnston was named the 2012-2013 Cass County 4-H Queen. We are very proud of them for their accomplishments.

At the Section 14 FFA Fair held at the Menard County Fairgrounds in Petersburg on July 24th, members competed for top honors with their FFA projects. Caseelynn Johnston exhibited the Champion Yorkshire Barrow that was named the Grand Champion Barrow Overall and the Champion Crossbred Steer that was also named the Grand Champion Steer Overall. Nathan Mahoney exhibited the first place Chester Gilt, 1st place Crossbred Gilt, 1st place Yorkshire Gilt, and 1st place Crossbred Barrow that was named the Reserve Grand Champion Barrow Overall. Dustin Duckwiler exhibited the Grand Champion Vegetable Display and also had the 1st place Pullet and 1st place Cockerel. Zach Fields received recognition for his livestock exhibiting skills and was named the Swine Showmanship Winner. The chapter was also honored to have the Top Chapter Barrow Display consisting of five animals from three members including Zach Fields, Nathan Mahoney and Caseelynn Johnston pictured with Section 14 FFA President Cole Baker. Members also exhibited the Top Chapter Steer Display consisting of five animals from members including Caseelynn Johnston, Lane Wegs, Joseph Ratliff and Carmen Savage. Other exhibitors included Dustin Duckwiler, Westin Duckwiler and Parrish Smith (not pictured) in Garden Vegetables, Caseelynn Johnston and Westin Duckwiler in Poultry and Caseelynn Johnston in Rabbits. We would also like to thank Mr. Dan Williams for judging the horse show at the event.

At this time, I would also like to thank all of the supporters of the A-C Central FFA Chapter for making my teaching experience at A-C Central unforgettable. I have accepted a position with the Facilitating Coordination for Agricultural Education as the District III Program Advisor for the coming year. I have been blessed to work with your children these past six years and will forever be grateful to all of you in the Ashland and Chandlerville communities for giving me this opportunity. Your support, as well as the support from the community, school faculty and administration led to our successes and I am sure there are many more awards to be won in the coming years as A-C Central FFA members continue to make us proud. - Mrs. Jennifer Waters

August 2012 My Favorite Devotion Friends, The favorite devotion I read this last month was “Bruised Christians” by C.S. Lewis. I found this devotion in the book “Every Day with Jesus”.

Some days we get by without a scratch; still other days we barely limp through, bruised and bleeding.

The amazing reality about our Christian journey is that we don’t take it alone. We have other Christians before us, behind us, and beside us to pick us up when we fall. Better still, we have our Savior who wipes away the tears, cleans our wounds, and applies the healing salve of forgiveness.

When we stumble, we learn from our mistakes. Having come through the rough times we have the wisdom to help others in similar situations. God knows we don’t like to stumble, but he makes sure that everything works together for good - our good and the good of his kingdom.

Someone You Should Know Editor’s Note: I listened to Alneta sing on Songwriter’s Night at the Hall of Fame Motel in Nashville. I liked her songs, as did everyone else that was there.

Simply “Alneta” One night of our vacation to Nashville Tennessee, we went out to Shoney’s and met this wonderful lady. Turns out she is a poet, song writer, and lyricist, and just so happens, our server for the evening. We visited awhile, and then she began sharing her work with us, from memory, line by line, full of emotion, and we just found ourselves stopping our dinner and just listening in awe. We instantly knew that we wanted to share her work with everyone. We mentioned to her that we produce a local newsletter, upon her learning, was excited for us to publish her works. So we thought we would take a small portion of our newsletter each month and share her work with you. It’s uncanny how true each topic applies today, even though some of these pieces were written back in the early to middle 1990s. She was definitely a ‘charmer’, charismatic, and a diamond in the rough. So, “Simply ‘Alneta’ ” as she titled her body of works that she shared with us, will be HER space, for us to share her talent. GOD bless this wonderful lady!

From a little town called Poplar Bluff Missouri, I came to Nashville to do something everyone wants to do, FULFILL A DREAM! Being from a musical family, on my mother’s side, I started singing and writing at an early age. My personal experiences have inspired me in my songwriting and has caused me to bring forth some pretty good tearjerkers. Of course, I have written some happy songs, too.

I am truly a country girl at heart, and I love to walk down country roads. In fact, I get a lot of ideas for songs when I am among nature. There is something about the outdoors and the sound of the wind that triggers my thoughts, although not all of my songs are written outdoors.

I came to Nashville in early March, 1987, because I felt my calling. I felt the need to be among my own kind.

Since I have been here, I have wondered why I didn’t come sooner. I have met a lot of interesting people who are in the same boat I am in.

Having a good spouse has helped tremendously. His name is Joe and he is behind me one hundred percent.
