CA MDEN YARDS
Ashton Design raised the bar for the visual energy of ballparks nationally in branding Oriole Park at Camden Yards, which opened on April 6, 1992. Everything about the new stadium was connected with the history of baseball in Baltimore (the house where Babe Ruth’s father ran a café had once stood in center field, and in 1954 the players of the brand-new Baltimore Orioles franchise arrived at Camden Station for their first game at Memorial Stadium). A 2012 refresh played off the original designs, maintaining the park’s spirit in sections revamped to enrich the experience of new generations of sophisticated fans. The original designs stood the test of time and provided a solid foundation for the addition of new concessions and new hospitality areas and visitor experiences throughout the park. “Everywhere you turn here at Camden Yards, there is a little bit of something that tells the story of baseball in Baltimore.” Janet Marie Smith
It was in this project, working closely with Janet Marie Smith, that our design team first established and, over decades, refined our approach to environmental graphics for sports venues. We first brand the stadium as a destination and ensure that it speaks to its city’s history and culture. Then layer in team branding and graphics from sponsors for a vibrant and dynamic visual experience. Use the highest quality of materials and fabrication methods to create an authentic sense of place and timelessness. We are gratified when fans feel that the place they stand has stood in this place forever. Our success is measured in their experience.
