WELCOME

CONTENTS BEST BUSINESS WORKING WITH THE COMMUNITY (sponsored by An Post) 04

Hello everyone and welcome As chairperson of LAMA it is a pleasure and honour for me to welcome you to the Awards tonight on behalf of the LAMA Executive. I thank the LAMA Officer board and the Executive for their work and support. A big thank you to IPB for being the main sponsor again this year without their continued solid support none of us would be here tonight. To Ashville Media for the work behind the scenes organising this great event thank you. The 31 local authorities throughout the country have been always very supportive of the Awards and of LAMA and that is always very much appreciated. There are people here from different counties throughout the country. Many of you are volunteers working tirelessly in your local areas for no reason other than the love you have for your parish, village or town. You are the people who give the best example of what it is to be Irish. You get your teeth into a project be it tidy towns, mental health, exercise, environmental protection. Even when your backs are to the wall, and the answers to questions you ask seem to be ‘NO’, you keep going, pushing until you get to where you want to be – successfully at the finishing line. You are the people tonight is all about the people that keep this country going through thick and thin. Promise me this one thing. Enjoy yourselves tonight because you most definitely deserve it.

Thank you all Cllr Micheal Anglim Chairperson Local Authority Members Association

WELCOME AND CONGRATULATIONS FROM IPB INSURANCE IPB Insurance is proud to be headline sponsor of the Community and Council Awards in partnership with Local Authority Members Association (LAMA). As the mutual insurer to Ireland’s local authorities, we are delighted to support these Awards which celebrate the unique and symbiotic relationship enjoyed by Local Authorities and their communities. These awards also serve to illustrate what can be achieved when community volunteerism is encouraged and supported at a local level. During these challenging times, the power of collective effort in our communities has never been more evident, it is fitting that we recognise you, your communities, and your councils’ achievements at a national level. This evening provides an opportunity to celebrate and acknowledge the vision, enthusiasm and hard work of volunteers, communities and Local Authorities that are working together to create better places to live and work. Since March 2020, we have witnessed an incredible emergency response from our local authorities and unprecedented levels of personal sacrifice and volunteerism in our communities. It is so heartening to see so many inspiring projects being undertaken with the support of our local authority members as evidenced by the depth and diversity of the projects represented in all award categories. The wide variety of award categories reflects the adaptability and versatility of community initiatives undertaken across the country. I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate LAMA for their commitment in ensuring the Community and Council Awards continue to develop and thrive. Your initiative provides an invaluable platform to recognise and celebrate our shortlisted communities and councils who have demonstrated the value of working together to deliver excellence in local economic, social and recreational development. On behalf of everyone at IPB Insurance, I would like to commend and congratulate all of tonight’s finalists and wish every one of you the very best of luck. Enjoy the night!
