Characteristics of an AYVP Facilitator Facilitators play a key role in fulfilling the objectives of the ASEAN Youth Volunteer Programme. They are expected to guide and encourage the volunteers to participate actively and work together as a team, whilst helping give each participant the maximum benefit of the 5-week programme. As such, AYVP recognises facilitators as outstanding young leaders themselves who are able to carry out the AYVP mission and present it in a practical, dynamic and committed way. o

An ASEAN national aged 18-30 years old A good track record of leadership experiences Relevance of educational background to Heritage Conservation and related fields (history, sociology, anthropology, culture, arts, etc.) Fluency in the English language Able to perform a variety of practical and social skills Versatile and adaptable to different cultures and work environments.
*Preference will be given to nationals of the host country, especially students of the host University i.e. Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, in order to facilitate easy coordination and ensure familiarity with the sites. * AYVP Alumni who are knowledge experts in the thematic area are also encouraged to apply, since they already have experience of how an AYVP programme is conducted.
The AYVP Facilitator Experience Being an AYVP Facilitator is a unique, empowering and educational experience! Earn stipends You will be fully-funded during the programme and provided with daily allowance of RM53/ day for undergraduate students and RM 60/ day for graduate students. Enrich your filed of expertise Under the mentorship of site coordinators who are knowledge experts in the field, you can broaden your learning experiences and apply what you know for the benefit of communities in need. Experience co-managing a leadership programme Share your knowledge base at a regional setting, and learn practical skills such as events management, team building, communication skills, and the like. Be part of the AYVP Network As a member of the family of AYVP volunteers and facilitators, you can have access to a wide range of regional events and database of partners. Immerse in different cultures Meet new friends from 10 different countries, and learn to adapt in a multi-cultural and dynamic setting, while appreciating your own ethnic/ national identity, and in turn, discovering your regional identity.
Responsibilities of AYVP Facilitators 1. General Tasks • Attend all scheduled facilitator’s meetings, trainings and post-programme evaluations. • Make timely decisions and take appropriate actions when needed. • Notify site coordinators and AYVP Secretariat, as soon as possible, if any matter arises which may be deemed to affect the development of the programme. 2. Knowledge Sharing with Volunteers • Share valuable knowledge and skills to volunteers to enrich their learning experiences during activities, and when deemed necessary. • Assist the volunteers in communicating with the local community, by helping them understand the local context, and assisting with translations if needed. • Encourage volunteers to note down their observations and highlight experiences, especially on the reflective journal on a daily basis.
3. Liaising Among AYVP Secretariat, Site Coordinators and Volunteers • Communicate all announcements, messages and changes made by AYVP Secretariat and site coordinators to volunteers. • Constantly interact with volunteers about any difficulties and/or suggestions on the facilities, activities and other matters, and communicate to the AYVP Secretariat and site coordinator accordingly.
4. Volunteer Management • • • •
Assist volunteers who might need special assistance in carrying out activities. Encourage activities that would boost team spirit and morale. Provide pastoral care for the volunteers such as implementing house rules and regulations. Be in-the-know of important numbers at all times, in the case of unforeseen events.
5. Logistical Assistance • Act with the guidance and direction of site coordinators to carry out activities at site. • Assist the AYVP Secretariat, when needed, during the first and last weeks.
