INTRODUCTION


COMPARISON BETWEEN KUALA LUMPUR AND MELAKA CHINESE COMMUNITY Petaling Street • Relies heavily on volunteerism spirit from the community • Marketed as a tourist spot by relevant agencies

Melaka • Heritage conservation is mostly driven by government agencies such as Ministry of Tourism and Department of Archeology


RECOMMENDATIONS (LOCAL COMMUNITY) 1.

Fusion of positive factors from both sides

The perfect heritage conservation plan


2. Build and Strengthen Awareness regarding Heritage Exchange programs focusing on stakeholders e.g: AYVP, Erasmus Mundus, Social Network Movements  To create sense of belonging and ownership of heritage.  Tailor programs to ensure they are absorbed into their own communities. 


3. Monetization of Traditional Crafts • Promote them as sources of income • Increase the trade’s value to the community • Potential element to boost tourism if trade is done on a larger scale


4. Integrating traditional trade skills into formal education ď‚—

To encourage more youths to learn and appreciate heritage ◌ E.g: Indonesia – Minangkabau and Toraja community


5. Making Heritage Accessible

[Language] Make information readily available in various languages  Increase online presence – Social media 

◦ E.g: KL National Museum: use of barcode scanning to translate Malay text to English. ◦ Tripadvisor, Wikitravel
