ASEAN Youth Volunteer Programme Database of Environment - Based NGOâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s around ASEAN

Background Context The ASEAN Youth Volunteer Programme is a dedicated youth volunteerism platform that mobilises ASEAN youth to develop innovative solutions to the social, cultural, economic and environmental challenges of communities across ASEAN, while forging a sense of regional identity. It is developed and implemented by Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), in partnership with the Malaysian Ministry of Youth and Sports, the ASEAN Secretariat and United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

AYVP works on 7 thematic areas, as guided by the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Blueprint, among which is our common advocacy - Environment and Climate Change. As AYVP develops into a regional reference centre for volunteerism initiatives across the region, one of its initiatives with USAID is the development of a database of NGOs around the region, which would help stakeholders in engagement activities in the region.

Green Brunei Green Brunei is a non-profit organisation that promotes environmental education and creates awareness on environmental conservation and clean technology. Green Brunei aims to become the biggest green community in Brunei, with the goal of providing green resources and to be an enabler of youth-initiated environmental projects. Run by a team of youth volunteers with a dedicated interest in promoting the beauty of Brunei’s nature and the importance of an eco-friendly lifestyle, it was established in August 2012 and has organized various activities that cater to children, youth and adults, such as nature camps, tree planting, workshops, and talks. Centric to this, it also encourages citizenry journalism, where any Bruneian can submit articles or provide green information for the good of Brunei’s treasured environment. Beach Bunch The Beach Bunch Association is a passionate non-governmental, non-profit environmental organisation whose mission is to “sustain and protect the beaches of Brunei from pollution.” The Beach Bunch was founded in January 2009 by two good friends who were frustrated by the state of the beaches in the country and the lack of environmental education of the public. From then on, this small group of youth has grown with the support of new members, countless volunteers, sponsors and the government of Brunei. Beach Bunch accomplishes their mission through beach clean-ups and environmental education. BruWild BruWild works towards conservation and preservation of Brunei’s flora and fauna by providing educational support to all wildlife and nature enthusiasts. Its vision is to collaborate with the Brunei Government and other NonGovernment Organisations for biodiversity conservation as well as to take part in the sustainable development of the country. The aim is to build a future for Brunei where people and nature, sustainable development and natural heritage can coexist and thrive to mutual benefit. Established on August 2013, BruWild is an independently-formed group of passionate ecologist, conservationists, mammal specialists, herpetologists, ornithologists, botanists and a range of marine life specialists. Earth Hour Brunei Earth Hour Brunei is coordinated by a non-profit organisation which is managed by a group of working professionals, students and the community. Earth Hour started in 2007 in Sydney, Australia with 2.2 million homes and businesses turning their lights off for one whole hour. Brunei join Earth Hour officially in 2010. Since Brunei officially joined Earth Hour in 2010, it has become a yearly event throughout the country across all of 4 districts. Brunei Nature Society (BNS) The Brunei Nature Society (BNS) aims to promote an interest in, and to study, Natural History in general and that of Brunei Darussalam in particular. Society for Community Outreach & Training (SCOT) The Society for Community Outreach & Training (SCOT) launched the Green Xchange H20 project (GX H2O), an underwater clean-up coral restoration programme along the dive sites of Brunei. The project’s objective is to deliver awareness about the beauty of the ocean and corals in the Sultanate, which is home to unique species of corals that include the endangered Blue Coral found in the Pelong Rocks area. Twenty participants compromising committee members of SCOT, representatives from HSBC Brunei and the general public have been selected to participate in this first–of-its-kind project. Culture and Environment Preservation Association (CEPA) Culture and Environment Preservation Association (CEPA) believes that the issues of natural resource management are first and foremost the most important problems facing the country and are in need of immediate and permanent solution. It was founded in 1995 by four social and environmental activists committed to preserving their natural resources. The organization focused its early work on training young activists on nature resource management and empowering forest and river dependent people on resource management. In the past ten years the organization has expanded to include advocacy on environmental rights, community-based forest management, and research. These efforts have helped indigenous communities and ethnic minorities in the north-eastern part of Cambodia preserve their cultures by asserting their rights at the same time accepting modern development through the practice of sustainable methods to conserve their natural resources. Khmer Youth Association Cambodia (KYA) Khmer Youth Association (KYA) is a humanitarian, non-political, nongovernmental and non-partisan Cambodian youth organization founded in 1992. The Cambodian Rural Development Team The Cambodian Rural Development Team (CRDT) is a local not-for-profit organisation working to improve food security, incomes and living standards of poor rural communities in support of environmental conservation in Cambodia. It believes in a Cambodia free from poverty and environmental degradation. Currently, it has community and conservation projects in Mondulkiri, Kratie and Stung Treng. It also runs the Tourism Training Centre in Ton Le, where local people are trained in hospitality and other tourism related issues such as ecological protection and conservation. Save Cambodiaâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Wildlife Save Cambodia's Wildlife (SCW) works on providing technical support to Phnom Tamao Rescue Centre and increasing environmental awareness both within the wildlife rescue centre and with the general public. Fisheries Action Coalition Team (FACT) Fisheries Action Coalition Team (FACT) is a coalition of NGOs established as part of the environment project of the NGO Forum on Cambodia. Fauna and Flora International (FFI) Fauna and Flora International’s work spans across the globe, with over 140 projects in over 40 countries, mostly in the developing world. Wildlife Conservation Society The Wildlife Conservation Society has the clear mission to save wildlife and wild places across the globe. The Centre for People and Forests (RECOFTC) RECOFTC is an international organisation with a vision of local communities actively managing forests in Asia and the Pacific to ensure optimal social, economic, and environmental benefits. Wahana Lingkungan Hidup Indonesia (WALHI) WALHI or The Indonesian Forum for Environment is an Indonesian environmental non-governmental organisation, which is part of the Friends of the Earth network. It describes itself as “Indonesia’s largest environmental NGO” and its scope is broader than just environmental concerns. It stands for social transformation, people’s sovereignty, and sustainability of life and livelihoods. Wildlife Conservation Society WCS conducts scientific surveys on wildlife population to reduce the causes and effects of poaching and habitat loss. In urban centres, WCS collaborates with the Lao government to raise public awareness concerning problems with wildlife trade and assess wildlife loss, habitat destruction, and human-animal conflict. Its field staff has helped establish baseline biodiversity status reports, and developed effective conservation strategies for the Asian elephant, Eld’s deer, western black crested gibbon, Siamese crocodile, and tiger. Village Focus International Village Focus International’s Lao programme focuses on poor, vulnerable and marginalised communities in the southern uplands. Fauna and Flora International (FFI) Fauna and Flora International’s work spans across the globe, with over 140 projects in over 40 countries, mostly in the developing world. FFI’s first involvement in Laos has been to support conservation of its rich diversity of gibbon species. Together with the government and partner NGOs, FFI helped to prepare a national gibbon conservation action plan for Lao PDR, which was endorsed by the Lao government. The Centre for People and Forests (RECOFTC) RECOFTC is an international organization with a vision of developing local communities that actively manage forests in Asia and the Pacific, to ensure optimal social, economic, and environmental benefits. Wildlife Conservation Society of the Philippines The Wildlife Conservation Society of the Philippines (WCSP) is a professional organization of wildlife researchers, managers, scientists, and conservationists. Drive Change Drive Change broadens opportunities for young people coming out of adult jail and prison to help lead them to crime-free lives and bright futures. Drive Change has executed Education and Energy projects in schools and organizations in Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia. Drive Change has been awarded a grant to pilot an energy program for the Singapore government. It designs and delivers curriculum and support, grounded in sustainability, for classrooms at all grade levels –from Kindergarten to High school. Green Fins Green Fins is operating in South East Asia and the Indian Ocean to work with scuba diving and snorkel operators towards implementing robust environmental standards for the diving and snorkelling industry. The Green Fins mission statement is to protect and conserve coral reefs by establishing and implementing environmentally friendly guidelines to promote a sustainable diving tourism industry. The establishment of Green Fins began when monitoring of the socio-economic impacts of coral reefs has been noted as a common and urgent need in the South East Asian region. As a contribution to, and in support of, relevant work undertaken in the region, the US counterpart contributions will be used to initiate a new activity called “Green Fins” by which a network of dive operators will be asked to offer tours according to a set of environmentally-friendly guidelines. Fauna and Flora International (FFI) Fauna and Flora International’s work spans across the globe, with over 140 projects in over 40 countries, mostly in the developing world. It stands up for biodiversity and aims to show how relevant it is to all those who share the planet. The Fauna & Flora International (FFI) Vietnam Programme is at the forefront of saving the unique and extremely threatened wildlife, much of which is teetering on the verge of global extinction. It has several different projects running but one of the most important is the primate programme, which targets the endangered primates persisting in isolated pockets within the Northern Limestone Mountains and the Hoang Lien Mountains, in the north of the country. Since 2006, FFI has been exploring ways in which emerging Payments for Ecosystem Services mechanisms can be harnessed for the benefit of conservation and local communities. SJ Vietnam SolidaritĂŠs Jeunesses Vietnam (SJ Vietnam) is an international youth NGO (NonGovernmental Organization) that promotes values of solidarity, peace and tolerance through youth citizenship projects to improve society during and after the voluntarism.
