The much-anticipated Asian Film Awards will return to Hong Kong for its 16th edition. The Academy is happy to see the gradual recovery of the Asian film industry, which has brought more opportunities for cross-regional collaborations.
The Academy is honoured to appoint renowned director Mr. ZHANG Yimou as our Jury President this year. With his unique vision and profound experience, he will lead jurors from around the world to honour excellence in filmmaking. We are also pleased to invite actress Ms. LIN Min Chen to be the Youth Ambassador and take on the mission of encouraging young filmmakers.
I believe that the Asian Film Awards provide a unique platform to promote exchange among distinguished talents in the Asian film industry. The Academy will continue to work relentlessly to facilitate cultural exchange among different countries and regions and lead the post-pandemic Asian film industry to new prosperity.
讓人期待的亞洲電影大獎今年將回到香港，舉行第十六屆頒獎禮。
我們很高興看到亞洲各地的電影業慢慢恢復過來，各地之間的合作 也帶來更多新機遇。
學院很榮幸邀請到國際著名導演張藝謀先生出任本屆大獎評審 主席。張導演會率領一眾來自世界各地的評審團成員，以獨到的 眼光和經驗，嘉許一群電影工作者。我們今年亦邀請到新生代演員 林明禎小姐擔任青年大使，擔起鼓勵年輕電影工作者的重任。

Congratulations on the successful opening of the 16th Asian Film Awards. More than anything, I would like to acknowledge and thank Dr. Wilfred Wong and the members of the Asian Film Awards Academy for their love and continued hard work in supporting and contributing to the Asian film industry for the past 15 years. The Busan International Film Festival is also very proud of the part we played in the Asian Film Awards, alongside Hong Kong and Tokyo International Film Festival.
For the past few years, the worldwide movie industry has gone through great hardships due to the COVID-19 pandemic and changes in the media environment. In the midst of such reconstruction of the industry structure, we hope that the 16th Asian Film Awards will serve as a venue to encourage and celebrate the Asian film community who have persevered to restore the film industry.
Welcoming spring after a long winter, I sincerely wish for the prosperity of the Asian Film Awards as it celebrates its 16th year and the boundless development of Asian film individuals.

The Tokyo International Film Festival was held in better circumstances this year due to the improved COVID-19 situation. We managed to expand the number of screens and as a result, attendance numbers also increased by more than 100%. I hope the next AFA will also be held in improved conditions.
Asia has a bright future in many fields, including cinema. The region will continue to be a dynamic center of global growth. Therefore, we could, and should, promote the exchange of films and filmmakers and enhance co-productions among many countries.
In order to further encourage collaboration and cooperation in the region, I believe the AFA will play a very important role. I sincerely hope for the success of the 16th AFA under the splendid leadership of Dr. Wilfred Wong.
今年由於新冠疫情趨緩，東京國際電影節得以在更好的環境下舉 行。我們成功增加放映場次，出席人數亦隨之增加一倍以上。我希望 即將舉行的亞洲電影大獎亦能在更佳的條件下舉行。
亞洲在許多領域都有光明前景，當中包括電影業。此處將繼續成為充 滿活力的全球增長中心地帶。因此，我們希望促進電影文化交流和影 人之間的交流，加強不同國家在製作上的合作，這也是份內之事。

As the leading figure of China’s Fifth Generation filmmakers, ZHANG Yimou acquired creative inspiration from his homeland and people in his early years. After winning the Golden Bear at the Berlinale with his directorial debut, Red Sorghum (1988), ZHANG earned two Golden Lions at Venice for The Story of Qiu Ju (1992) and Not One Less (1999). He was also awarded the Grand Prix at Cannes for To Live (1994). He then opened the era of Chinese blockbusters with martial arts films Hero (2002) and The House of Flying Daggers (2004), where spectacular visual compositions became his signature. ZHANG has also been actively promoting emerging talents in the industry, launching the careers of GONG Li, ZHANG Ziyi, and ZHOU Dongyu. To celebrate ZHANG’s achievements, the Asian Film Awards presented the “Outstanding Contribution to Asian Cinema” award to him in its fourth edition.
中國第五代導演代表人物，早年以土地和人民為 創作泉源，首作《紅高粱》（1988）榮獲柏林影展 金熊獎，他亦先後憑《秋菊打官司》（1992）及 《一個都不能少》（1999）兩奪威尼斯影展金獅獎， 《活著》（1994）則獲康城影展評審團大獎。其後 以武俠電影《英雄》（2002）、《十面埋伏》（2004） 打開中國大片時代的帷幕，壯麗視覺元素構成他 的鮮明標誌。他積極提攜新晉，從鞏俐、章子怡， 再到周冬雨，都是由他慧眼發掘。張藝謀曾獲 第四屆亞洲電影大獎的亞洲電影傑出貢獻大獎， 肯定他的非凡成就。
Born in Malaysia, LIN Min Chen first launched her pop singer career in Taiwan in 2015. She made her feature film debut in 2017 with Hong Kong comedy horror film Vampire Cleanup Department , and subsequently appeared in a number of Malaysian and Taiwanese productions. In recent years, she has based her acting career in Hong Kong, starring in CHIU Sin Hang’s One Second Champion (2020) and Sunny CHAN’s Table for Six (2022), the latter of which became the highest grossing Chinese comedy in Hong Kong. She is well loved by audiences not only for her comedic performances, but also for her positive public image.
林明禎出生於馬來西亞檳城，2015年在台灣以 歌手身分出道，2017年出演首部電影《救殭清道夫》， 在香港電影界嶄露頭角，及後亦參演馬來西亞及 台灣的影視作品。近年專注於香港發展演員事 業，相繼出演趙善恆執導的《一秒拳王》（2020）及 陳詠燊執導的《飯氣攻心》（2022），後者成為香港 最賣座的華語喜劇電影。林明禎於電影中的喜劇節 奏備受讚賞，其充滿活力的形象和率真的個性亦深得 觀眾喜愛。

ABE Hiroshi 阿部寬
Adept at portraying a wide range of characters, ABE Hiroshi turns each role he plays into an iconic one. From the struggling middle-aged men in KORE-EDA Hirokazu’s Still Walking (2008) and After the Storm (2016), the charismatic detective in the Detective Kaga series, to the hilarious ancient Roman architect in Thermae Romae (2012), ABE manoeuvres through genres with ease and has garnered multiple Best Actor awards in Japan. Since the early stages of his career, he has been actively venturing outside of Japan. His exceptional contribution to Asian cinema is highlighted by his starring roles in Hong Kong productions Saga of the Phoenix (1990) and Tokyo Raiders (2000), as well as Thai action film Chocolate (2008), Sino-Japanese co-production Legend of the Demon Cat (2017), and Malaysian film The Garden of Evening Mists (2019).
阿部寬的戲路一如其名地寬廣，每次皆賦予 角色獨特的魅力。他曾化身是枝裕和《橫山家 之味》（2008）、《比海還深》（2016）裡的失意中年、 東野圭吾筆下的警探加賀恭一郎，又演活《羅馬 浴場》（2012）裡喜感十足的古羅馬人，收放自如的 演出使他獲得日本電影學院獎、每日電影獎及藍 絲帶獎影帝殊榮。他很早就將演藝版圖擴展至全 亞洲，曾演出香港電影《阿修羅》（1990）及《東京 攻略》（2000），並陸續參演泰片《女拳霸》（2008）、 中日合拍的《妖貓傳》（2017）及馬來西亞電影《夕霧 花園》（2019），對亞洲電影貢獻良多。
