Editor’s letter

‘I

’m watching the never-tiring Asian Bride editorial team putting those sparkly finishing touches on our beautiful new issue and I’m reminded of the old adage “work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion”. I don’t know whether it’s because we’re compulsive perfectionists or because there’s just so much to tell you about the fun and fabulous world of weddings, but somehow, come deadline, we’re squeezing everything we can into every last minute like it’s a small clutch on a big night out. It got me thinking about all those brides who’ve told Asian Bride year after year that their top tips for a perfect wedding are: “plan ahead”, “plan in advance”, “plan well in advance”, and “start planning earlier than you plan to start planning...” I love our real brides. No matter how stunning our models are, there’s something distinctively beautiful about a bride. Maybe the glow of being in love or the thrill of knowing the magical day has finally come. If there’s anyone who knows about preparing for a wedding (other than your aunties), it’s real brides. Taking a leaf out of their book, this issue is packed with all the all tips and advice you need to make your big day work like magic, while looking fabulous. You’ll love our comprehensive and indispensable back to basics weddings planner. From the moment you say “yes”, to the moment you say “I’m loving this honeymoon”, we guide you through every stage of the big and beautiful process of planning the happiest day of your life. Enjoy every second of it, from myself and the team at Asian Bride, congratulations! (And don’t forget to write in after the big day to share your story and give us your top tips). ith a vibrant mix of kurta print magic and straight line salwar and churidar enthusiasm, comes an electric mix of groom wear for this season. Keeping a concentration on all over kurta embellishment as well as minimalist embroidery on the opposite side of the groom style spectrum. In keeping with a myriad of long and shorter length kurta design comes the return of centre panel and all over embellished embroidery for a traditional take on groom wear. Knee length kurtas with strong shoulder applique was all the rage in the collections of Ammar Belal in sophisticated blue tone and contrasting cream embroidery colour, keeping an exclusivity on traditional clothing. Anjalee and Arjun Kapoor took to exploring the decadence of ultra traditional design incorporating the popular tones of red and gold in their design collective – fusing the super richness of neckline and main body embroidery with dual colour scarf to finish. In rife contrast the designer duo paved the way for a gold rush in their collection, displaying their passion for gold and bronze with heavy half kurta embroidery embellishment. If simplicity equates to magnificence in your groom look, then the red and gold kurta suit from Azva will leave you excited, to say the least. Embodying the simple skill of one tone kurta colour with seamed embroidery and bold red salwar – simple, sharp and seriously statement-making. Shyamal and Bhumika kept a signature style of traditionalism throughout their collection – incorporating the excellence of aknowledged groom wear, from one tone kurta design, in mix with bold jacket and turban detailing. Traditional gold salwars with large motif embroidery on shameless pastels of green and gold, for an ultra accepting groom finish.

ehndi is a traditional occasion that encompasses the use of bold colour in quintessential design. This season we see a melting pot of beauteous light tones in play with anarkali and salwar kameez designs, paving the way for a more alternative mehndi look. An alluring range of pinks and gold work in elegant accompaniment to the rife selection of light greens and silver palates. Designer maestros Batur and Falaknaz expressed an elegant chic motif to their collections, with an explosion of golder than gold tight churidar trousers in friendly accompaniment to white and gold – simple and elegant. With high collar design that left fashion crowds in absolute aw, Maria B explored the nature of silver with one shoulder design, in play with neckline sequin and embroidery detailing and asymmetric length – evoking a strutting elegance to the collection. For a more traditional take on your mehndi outfit, the outfits from Krishna Mehta are without a doubt, breath taking. Ethnic wear with lavish finishings in a seductive silver colour range – merging the traditional with current shape definition; presenting a fresh look for your mehndi outfit. If boasting a mirage of colour works to your style motif – Opera House presented a range that will leave you asking for more. A colourful exhibition of peach and pink anarkali craftsmanship in friendship with authentic back embroidery design, gives that extra design appeal. Flowing silhouettes teamed with the elegance of sporadic stitch detail makes these outfits both traditionally inspiring whilst Opera House acutely feminine. LPFW

Q&A Beauty BRIDAL DILEMMAS SOLVED

SEAL IT I’m all prepped for my big day but looking for a good make up sealant spray which can be sprayed onto the face without having to reapply. Preferably not too expensive! Although there are plenty of very worthy premium branded makeup fixer sprays, it’s always a challenge to budget shop for a quality alternative. It’s important that your makeup has been set first with fixing powder to lock it in and avoid smudging. I’m a big fan of the Diego Dalla Palma Make Up Fixer £11. Once sprayed onto the face, the mist creates a fine film that sets you up for the rest of the day. It’s also great for keeping creases at bay and ensuring your colour stays looking vibrant. hqhair.com (available in Tesco).

20/20 VISION The theme of my registry is 20s, but me and my makeup artist are struggling. All the pictures are in black and white! The trick is to look playful yet modest, designed to contrast with the flamboyant beads, sequins and feathers in your accessories. First, get the colour palette right. The Deco Darling range by No7 comes with Loose Powder Highlighter to give cheeks a golden glow, an embossed Eye Palette for dark and dramatic eyes, Stay Precise Liquid Liner to help you smoulder, and of course, the big, bright lick of Love Red lipstick.

with Nina Ubhi

A clear head My scalp itches even though I wash it everyday. I’m attached to my hair products such as my volumising mousse, and don’t want to have to ditch them. Is there anything I can use to clean and detox my scalp whilst still using my normal hair products? It’s good to give your hair a break every now and then by ridding it of your usual styling products and you should also try to keep the product usage from mid hair downwards rather than applying any on or near your scalp. It sounds like your scalp needs exfoliation to stimulate the follicles and give it a good clean from the stresses of your wedding. Davines Natural Tech Detoxifying Scrub Shampoo £14.35 will work wonders to regenerate your hair and scalp. It has a strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory action, cardamom, coriander and mint, essential oils, absorbing clay and jojoba and silica particles with a scalp regenerating action.

That hollow feeling

I suffer from under eye hollows – they’re the opposite to bags – I’d actually love my under eyes to puff up a little! I use under eye concealer – it covers the darkness but won’t erase the hollows. Is there an eye cream I could use? I’ve found with numerous clients of mine that it’s actually a common issue amongst Asian women. Cult favourite brand Elemis; Pro Collagen Advance Eye Treatment £39 (timetospa.co.uk) has good firming effects as well as an extra punch of Collagen which plumps up skin. Although, this isn’t specifically targeted to people who suffer from under eye hollows, it’s one of the best skincare brands around that has an eye cream with collagen in it. Another alternative is the Juvederm treatment. The hollows under our eyes are called tear troughs and most clinics in London offer Juvederm tear trough treatment which will fill the hollows with filler to even the skin surface. The skin around the eye area is very delicate so I would highly recommend extensive research into the clinic and doctor performing the treatment.
