TRIBAL PEOPLE OF INDONESIA THE

Cirebonese

T

he existence of the Cirebonese ethnic group of people have always been associated with the presence

of Sundanese and Javanese people since long. However, its presence later led to the formation of its own culture, ranging from a variety of coastal batik that does not really follow the standards of

the

Javanese

palace

style

or

commonly known as interior batik, until the emergence of traditional Islamic patterns that came about in accordance with the construction of the Cirebon palace in the 15th century, which was fully based on Islam. The existence of the Cirebonese ethnic group that does not consider themselves as Sundanese or Javanese people was finally answered in the 2010 population census whereby a column that specifically mentions Cirebonese was made available. This meant that the existence of Cirebonese ethnic group has been recognized nationally as a separate tribe.

26

The indicators (Cirebonese tribe) seen from the local language used by the Cirebonese is not the same as with the Javanese or Sundanese people. The Cirebonese community also has a distinguish identity that makes them feel as they are their own ethnicity. Other indicators that characterizes a person as a Cirebonese is the name, which is unlike of those Javanese and Sundanese people. However, there have been no further research that could explain the characteristics identity of the Cirebonese. In order to search for a person’s ethnicity, it can be done through the biological patrilineal lineage. In addition, if a person identifies him or herself with the area (Cirebon) in soul and in spirit, then he or she is entitled to feel as part of the tribe in question. 27

GARUDA INDONESIA TO START MUMBAI - JAKARTA IN DECEMBER 2016 The airline will begin services from their home base of Jakarta to Mumbai with a stop in Bangkok along the way.

Better yet, for passengers at least (not so much for the airline), the lead in time to this flight is just a question of mere weeks – December 12, 2016 is slated to be the inaugural service for the flight. The prices of the flight will start from Rs. 27,600. 40

QATAR AIRWAYS ADD TWO MORE ASIA PASIFIC DESTINATIONS

Medan and Canberra among eight new routes announced for 2017

42

The Doha-based airline will commence its first ever flights to the Indonesian city of Medan and the Australian capital Canberra in 2017. These are two of the eight new destinations announced by Qatar Airways this week, along with Dublin, Las Vegas, Rio de Janeiro, Santiago, and the Saudi Arabian cities of Tabuk and Yanbu. These add to the previously-announced 2017 services to Auckland, Sarajevo, Skopje, Libreville, Nice, Chiang Mai and Douala, meaning that Qatar Airways will launch a total of 15 new destinations next year, including four in the Asia Pacific region. “With today’s network announcement, we will be able to connect more people to more places than any other Gulf airline, and we will ensure our passengers will delight in the journey. At Qatar Airways, we are going places together with our passengers, and we look forward to welcoming these new destinations,” said the airline’s group chief executive, Akbar Al Baker. Details of the new routes, such as launch dates and flight frequencies, have not yet been announced. But for both Asia Pacific airports the new flights mark major wins. Medan’s Kualanamu International Airport does not currently receive any scheduled long-haul flights, although Saudia and Garuda Indonesia operate special pilgrimage flights between Saudi Arabia’s holy cities and the Sumatran hub. And Qatar Airways will become only the second international carrier flying to Canberra Airport, following the launch of Singapore Airlines’ services earlier this year. Medan will become Qatar Airways’ third Indonesian destination after Jakarta and Bali, and Canberra will mark the airline’s fifth Australian hub, joining Adelaide, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney.
