April was a busy month with the Easter Celebrations here in Bali. I hope you all had a great Easter holiday. In this month Bali celebrates its Ubud Food Festival from May 27-29 where local restaurants, products and Indonesian cuisine are showcased. Ubud was nominated No. 3 of the Travelers Choice Top 10 Destinations in Asia and No. 10 worldwide recently. Definitely worth paying Ubud a visit with its pristine nature, rice terraces, villages and temples. And we would also like to introduce the new Katamaran Hotel in Lombok as well as the new Karma Reef Resort in Gili Meno. Also the newly renovated and re-opened Plataran Komodo Beach Resort found its way into our HOTELS section. More details in this News Bulletin. We are introducing a new kid on the block. three-day culinary adventure with Indonesian food as the star, the Ubud Food Festival is Southeast Asia’s most exciting new culinary event showcasing Indonesia’s diverse cuisine, innovative chefs and extraordinary local produce. riwijaya Air is adding two new routes in April Garuda Indonesia Bombardier CRJ-1000 Ssector. 2016 to widen its flight services to the tourism Alanded at Silangit Airport in North Tapanuli regency at 11 a.m. on Tuesday. Carrying 96 Sriwijaya will fly from Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta Airport to Selangit Airport in Tapanuli, North Sumatra. The new flight will improve tourist access to the Lake Toba of Sumatra. Sriwijaya Air will also open a new service in April connecting Bali’s Ngurah Rai Airport with Komodo Airport in Labuan Bajo in Flores. The travel planning and booking site revealed the winners of its 2016 Traveler’s Choice awards, which were determined based on the quantity and quality of reviews and ratings for hotels, restaurants and attractions in destinations worldwide over a 12-month period. Ubud, which ranked 10th, has long served as a haven for those seeking an escape from Bali’s bustling areas but who still wish to enjoy the island’s picturesque villages, rice terraces, art galleries, museums and rejuvenation retreats. Commenting on the win, Tourism Minister Arief Yahya said, “This is exactly the kind of experience this archipelago is all about. BAKMI GORENG Indonesian Stir-Fried Noodles (BakmiGoreng)

INGREDIENTS • 3 tablespoons peanut oil, divided • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten • 6 ounces dried Chinese egg noodles or spaghetti • 6 ounces skinless, boneless chicken breast, thinly sliced • 4 ounces boneless pork loin chop, sliced • 2 garlic cloves, minced • 2 cups thinly sliced napa cabbage • 3/4 cup sliced green onions • 1 celery stalk, thinly sliced • 3 tablespoons fat-free, lower-sodium chicken broth Recipe Menu From : Marcel Barmettler

• 1 tablespoon kecapmanis (sweet soy sauce) • 1 tablespoon lower-sodium soy sauce • 1/2 cup packaged fried onions

INSTRUCTIONS Step 1 Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Pour eggs into pan; swirl to form a thin omelet. Cook 1 minute or until cooked on bottom. Carefully turn omelet over; cook 30 seconds. Remove from pan. Roll up omelet; cut roll crosswise into thin strips. Keep warm. Step 2 Cook noodles according to package directions. Drain and rinse with cold water; drain and set aside.. Step 3 Heat a wok over high heat. Add 2 tablespoons oil; swirl. Add chicken, pork, and garlic; stir-fry 1 1/2 minutes. Add cabbage, green onions, and celery; stir-fry 1 minute. Stir in broth, kecapmanis, and soy sauce. Add noodles; stir-fry 3 minutes or until thoroughly heated and noodles begin to lightly brown. TRIBAL PEOPLE OF INDONESIA The Lombok Sasak

ittle is known about the Sasak history except that Lombok was placed under Lconverted direct rule of the Majapahit prime Minister, patihGajah Mada. The Sasaks to Islam between the late 16th century and the early 17th century under the influence of SunanGiri and the Muslims of Makassar who frequently mixed basic Islamic beliefs with Hindu-Buddhist beliefs, thus creating the WetuTelu religion.

Lombok was conquered by the Gelgel Balinese kingdom in the early 18th century bringing a large population of Balinese to Lombok. The Balinese population of Lombok today is about 300,000 or 10-15% of Lombok’s population. The Balinese have also strongly influenced the WetuTelu religion of Lombok. 38

It is one of Bali’s most beautiful temples dating back to 11th century.
