B
ali will be hosting the 85th General Assembly
of
International
Police
(Interpol) on November 7-10, 2016. Being able to host an Interpol general assembly is an honor and a very rare opportunity that might not come twice in a century, given the number of Interpol members, including 190 countries, said the Indonesian Police Chief General Tito Karnavian when reviewing the preparations for the event. The Interpol general assembly is believed to
be
the
second
largest
international
gathering, after the UN General Assembly in New York. More than one thousand delegates representing 190 countries will participate in the meeting. The Indonesian police will pull out all stops to ensure the success of the General Assembly. It will take actions to assure the security of all delegates and international government officials attending the event. “Indonesia is the second country, after China, with the largest police force, comprising 430,000,” he noted. Counter-terrorism measures will be one of the main topics to be discussed during the meeting. Besides terrorism, the issue of international crimes will also be addressed during
the
General
Assembly.
Further,
international crimes will be discussed, such as illegal drugs, cybercrime, fraud and illegal fishing. Being the world’s largest international police organization, Interpol has a vision of “Connecting police for a safer world”, while its mission is “Preventing and fighting crime through enhanced cooperation and innovation on police and security matters”. 10

ceremony dedicated to Sang Hyang RareAngon, master of all cattle and livestock. This year’s Tumpek Kandang Day will fall on December 15. The rituals will be held at every farm and family compound. Tumpek Kandang, which is sometimes called Tumpek Andang, falls on the Saturday of Uye, in the 22nd week of the pawukon cycle. The name of Tumpek Kandang is derived from two words, “Tumpek” meaning Saturday and “Kandang”, the Balinese word for the household animals such as cows, pigs, chickens, ducks, dogs, and birds - all of which are highly valued by the Balinese. 18

Acehnese
(also

are
an
ethnic group from Aceh, Indonesia in the
northernmost tip of the island of Sumatra. The area has a history of political struggle against the Dutch. Their language, the Acehnese, belongs to the Aceh–Chamic groups of Malayo-Polynesian branch of the Austronesian language family. The 14th century Suruaso inscription was found in Tanah Datar Regency (West Sumatra), and written in two languages, Old Malay and Tamil. The Tamils were also assimilated with Acehnese people, and many of them have physical resemblance to that of Tamils. However, they do not practice the Tamil culture or speak the Tamil language anymore. They were at one time Hinduised, as is evidence from their traditions and the many Sanskrit words in their language. They have been Muslims for several centuries and are generally considered the most conservative Muslim ethnic group in Indonesia with the implementation of Sharia law in their home province of Aceh. The estimated number of Acehnese ranges between 3,526,000 and 4.2 million people There have been a large number of Acehnese agriculturists,

and
weavers.
Traditionally matrilocal, their social organisation is communal. They live in gampĂ´ngs, which combine to form districts known as mukims. Aceh came to international attention as being the hardest-hit region of the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake with 120,000 people dead. 27

Garuda Wisnu Kencana Monument Park to Open in 2018
G
overnor Made Mangku Pastika has reiterated his desire that construction
of the Garuda Wisnu Kencana (GWK) Monument Park be completed as soon as possible so it can assume its rightful role as a tourism icon for the Island of Bali. As reported by Beritabali.com, the Governor called for a speedy completion of the giant statue during a meeting with the management team of GWK and the monument’s sculptor Nyoman Nuarta on Friday, September 30, 2016. Nyoman Nuarta explained to the Governor that the statue is now 80% complete. Nuarta said the biggest challenge faced by those constructing the monument are the strong winds. The GWK Monument, when completed, will be nine times larger that the Statue of Liberty in volumetric terms. 42
Nuarta told the Governor that the GWK Monument will take at a maximum of two more years to complete. A director of PT Garuda Adhimatra Indonesia, Seno Andhikawanto, who manages GWK, said his company is committed to completing the monument as soon as possible. Seno also explained that the completed park would also include a range of supporting facilities, such the development of a hotel on the site. The construction of GWK restarted in May 2013 after construction was halted for a number of years. The Governor called on GWK to ensure that no rules and regulations are violated in the completion of the monument park.
