The Women’s Lacrosse team this weekend went to a UNC Chapel Hill tournament. At the tournament there was major growth between the returning and new players. The flow of the team changes with new additions and we sought to figure out the flow this new set of teammates as we went into the weekend.

We started off the weekend against Eastern Carolina University. As the game began, we were not clicking. Passes to each other were sloppy and communication was not where it needed to be, but as the game continued it started to shift. During half-time we talked to the team about upping the communication and making sure that there were clean passes on the transitions, and as were set off into the second half I saw these changes implemented into our team’s play. We began to hold possession for longer and the transitions up the field looked beautiful as the players passes seamlessly from one player to the next as we shifted down the field. The girls started to attack after ground balls and defense put pressure on each opponent. We had begun to fight and enjoy the game that we were playing. Defense worked hard the entire game as the ball moved in the direction of the goal. Never slacking and ever vigilant to the plays around them. The anchor of the defense this weekend were the goalies, Charis Hatcher and Lauren Smith. The saving of numerous shots and protecting the team from a deafening blowout. Simply said, they killed it! They were quick to each shot and stepped out of the cage to clear the ball out of high-pressure situations. They stepped up for the team.
This goes to show that each member on the field is vital to the success of the team, and though the score board did not show it, I am proud of the aggression and will to play hard that my fellow teammates demonstrated in each time we stepped on the field. We are continuing the grow as a team and play well as we play against Western Carolina University on March 29.
