BOHEMIAN RHAPSHANTY a game guide by andre wee lily jiang miles pisani
PROJECT DESCRIPTION PROJECT DESCRIPTION Bohemian Rhapshanty aims to promote a culture of tolerance and suboptimal lifestyle that defers to Environment and negotiates around the natural cycles of the existing ecosystems It proposes that the collective actions of the inhabitants on site can be amplified through altruistic landscapes that amplify the collective actions of the inhabitants on site. An architecture that takes on an attitude of generosity and empherality towards land. In an attempt to break free from the one sided-transactions in the polemic of our human-centric cities. Bohemian Rhapshanty is NOT A PLACE but a community. An ephemeral entity. A culture of tolerance located in builts off the collective memory of the West Melbourne Treatment Plant and the undoing of our past city systems. The incremental shifting of the landscape is a symbiotic dance between the inhabitants, their byproducts and the environment. There exists a pattern of cyclic migration across Melbourne West Water Treatment Plant that responds to the natural cycles. This gypsy mentality of constant movement encompasses our ephemeral attitude towards the site. This free flowing and episodic movement of structures, inhabitants and their byproducts results in a symbiotic dance that leads to incremental shifting of the lands over time. Here we encourage one leaves a place better than you found it - Leaving residues of nourishment. We want to create Systems of Understanding – Systems that respond rather than dictate systems that defer to the landscape rather than demand attention. There is a desire to dissolve the status Quo, breaking up the seamlessness of the system. Reintegration ourselves to be part of the water treatment plant and rewiring the ecosystems of exchange Bohemian Rhapshanty offers a cultural landscape in a sense we’re not slowly building for one specific inhabitant, the built form ultimately aims to cater to all species and this infrastructural landscape creates a speculative framework in how people could potentially accommodate didactic measures in redefining the culture and suboptimal living conditions within the water treatment plant.

System_Water Storage Levels Studying the water storage levels data provided by Melbourne West WTP is transferred onto the G.O.D. Choosing this system with numbers and values could transfer these data onto the form in a way that breaks the linearity and creates a more nuanced circulation. Proposition To investigate thresholds that segregate inside and outside, its circulation from inside to outside as a way to determine program. I am hoping to break the linear circulation pattern and look at different ways of permeability to the outside in terms of relationships rather than visual.
Proposition Coming from the idea of the treatment plant being used as a way of storage and continuous innovation in reducing waste, the outcome I am hoping for is pushing different integration of storage systems so they can work together to be more efficient. This proposition hope to seek vertical landscape rather than something that is seen from the horizon. Speculation The result creates a colony of trumpet like form attached to the host structure. This poses different systems of storage as a typological behaviour. Depending on direction of the current the landscape responds accordingly hence generating different volumetric sectors, dividing up into different dimensions.

PROGRAMATIC NETWORK
CIRCULATION NETWORK
This strategy used school program to begin to understand how programs emerge in a space and the space map was there in try and create some what of a guide and to help place and organise the school programs.
The circulation network need a base geometry to feed upon, the base of this strategy requires a already realised space and by using numbers based of the population of wild birds that come to the site I was able to use these numbers as agents to use in a flocking algorithm to further create continuity though the spaces.
Unfortunately, this wasn’t an successful outcome, because the way the star map was laid out, it just happened to create to much density in one area, making the rest of the outcome seem minute and unimportant.
The way this method moves through geometry is unique in that where the proposal is more densely populated the more the agents would flow through it and thus making a larger connection network between them.
Perhaps instead of using star density as my main programmatic threshold, I perhaps could have relied more heavily on star constellations. This would have solved the density issue, however, linking these clusters in a meaningful way still would have illuded the proposal.

LANDSCAPE
PARTY
The superimposition The exploration looked into juxtapostioning three individual explorations emphasising on assimulated landscapes, spatial strategies and procedural tectonics together to form a new identity. Landscape party proposes ideas of artificial terrains by manufacturing landscapes through void and absence elements in assimulated landscapes. Spatial strategies and ornament complement together to emphasise programmatic and spatial relationships to the arrangement which is translated to the underground. This could be used as a strategy for constructing formation, redefining typological behaviour in storage.
The Examination of the road networks on the site allowed me to perhaps further understand how I could tackle the site in terms of networking future programs and allocating hubs of civic importance. The strategies used below are as follows: Stigmergy, Flocking and Bundling all three and a different strategy in how they break up the site and start to develop hierarchy and specific places and hubs start to emerge. Bundling however, seems to be the most successful, reason being is that it start to break up the site in are more useable way. The other strategies are messy and didn’t really have a consistency to how they where working.

SUPERIMPOSITION :
SUPERIMPOSITION :
The ecology exploration defines the fluidity of the site overtaking the rigidity of the formal and ornamental qualities. The juxtaposed connection of the site’s spatial attributes emphasises pivot points within the Water Treatment Plant area that interlinks to a multilinear landscape. This one-directional axis celebrates the tectonic and civic culture of the site by locating them at the end to embrace and show gradual exaggeration of the space.
The concatenations of three raw results construct a field of architecture to engage with the site’s civic culture. Shifting the focus of architecture to landscape, the spatial volumes become secondary and the landscape engulfs the spatial bodies. It cycles of landscape refreshing on top of environments repeatedly. In the field of data fragments, the axial nature of the promenade gives the focus to distinct areas on the site. It defines the significant systematic flow of the site.
This architecture serves as an infrastructure of the site that connects the system of the site and human activities that happen inside the architecture. The anti-panopticon like structure forms a monumental and even sacred atmosphere for the user to commemorate the lowest promenade.
AXO
This peripheral architecture brings and networks back to the city with new experiences. It becomes a pivot point of the city, periphery and rural area of Melbourne. It almost becomes a sacred ground of fluidity that links the site and the user.

FOAM
Data remains scattered on the site expresses as a cultural artefact of a particular time. It blends and concatenates at the site with the spatial volumes, being sponges of data of the things surrounding it, promoting regular updates than depending on a stagnant body of knowledge.

DISCOMBOBUL ATE The superimposition The exploration looked into juxtapostioning three individual explorations emphasising on assimulated landscapes, spatial strategies and procedural tectonics together to form a new identity. Discombobulate explores the conditions of hyper density and breaking the linear circulation to be more permeable. Using assimulated landscape as a frame, spatial strategies and ornament were used in a way that breaks up the linearity and introduce density within the architecture, there is possibilities as to how this strategy could expand site wide, creating a new “hoddle grid” defining sequence of space.
The exploration looked into how the seperated three part: landscape, spatial, ornament can produce a strong interdependence and mutual cooperation relationship and serve the citizens as a whole. This project aim to creat a protential learning area that civic can walk through the site and clearly see the 360 view of sewage treatment plant. Besides, the lab work area is connect with learning area, so that civic can learn and understand the workflow of sewage treatment up close. The ornament part is interspersed with the whole building, reflecting fluidity and strengthening the connection of each part.

ECOLOGIES 3
CYLINDRO INSANIRE Cylindro Insanire (Roller Madness) was an exercise with the experimentation of typology placements. The first and second ecologies are the main focus of the site, and the third ecology was a way to populate the whole site. Within this proposal it was discovered that the third ecology was not in tune with the rest of the ecologies and typologies on the site. It felt disjointed. However the first and second ecologies are far more connected and have a stronger feeling of consistency.
The ecologies study of the 3 systems revolved around the landscape demarcation from the Assimilation Landscapes & Didactic Civic Fields. The segregation of the land with spatial dividers result in outdoor voids that are loosely defined by boundary walls. These spatial voids provide opportunities for programs to bleed out from solid voids into the open. Also decreasing the need for huge covered infrastructure that obstruct the land from breathing. This is highly suitable for site of focus as a solution for framing and creating hierarchy for landscapes of sewage processing. These narrow planar gestures reappear across the site, suggesting a consistency of purpose and function necessary to the sewage pool. The exploration of ornament on surfaces beyond facade is explored and introduces itself as a traversible thing that humans can interact with.
