Urban Farm
“...farms may become smaller when they are subdivided with more intensified operations in response to increasing land value.” -Towards national reporting on agricultural land use change in Australia, 2013 Australian Government Department of Agriculture ABARES
03
Data Centre
Generally, the temperatures recorded in the hot aisles of a data center hover between 25 and 40 degrees Celsius. Data centres consume around an estimated 200 terawatt hours (TWh) annually – more than the energy consumption of some countries (Argentina, Ukraine, Thailand)
Solar Farm
A solar farm can generate anywhere from 200 million kilowatt hours (kWh) of energy all the way up to more than 100 million kWh in a single year.
Virtual Experience
Unlike time-pressed workers, gamers seek challenges and are willing to spend time figuring out how a game and its technology work, particularly if the game promises complete immersion.
“You want to have a future where you’re expecting things to be better, not one where you’re expecting things to be worse.” --Elon Musk

Our proposition is to create an oasis that offers immersive experience of future farming, which controlled by online platform that user can easily access via mobile device. The Meta Oasis is highly energy-efficiency with aiming to utlise the excessive heat generated by data servers and meanwhile optimise the performance of the data centre by cooling the server down. Our speculation is based on the growing interest of mixed-reality and given the heritage of the Sunshine Grain Silo, We decide to embed the farm into the data 06 centre.
Sunshine Road / Wright St Sunshine VIC 3020 The Sunshine Barley terminal was completed between 1965 and 1977, with a total capacity 64,000 tonnes. On a 2.27 hectare long thin site, 2 Wright Street, abutting the train line south of Sunshine station, is speculated to be trading for $9.5 million to a developer with experience in medium density projects this side of town. The silos were last served by trains back in 2014.

Reflection: This project is the first try of procedural design. I gradually began to understand the process of tranforming forms and combine with spatial arrangements. Patrick’s crtication on this micro-project is lacking of strong worlding and proposition.
This project is a communication center, and we want to express a building that combines private and public spaces. People has their own space, but it connect with the public community. Make sure people who live in the small cube can engage in the public activity.

Reflection: This project is individual work. I firstly start to explore the site - a triangle grassland with an abandoned brick-work warehouse. My proposition is to combine vertical farming and data centre. Therefore, the data that I collected for this project is the direct sunlight hours received by subject site. The second proposition is taking the vertical farming a step further to automatic farming connected with auotomatic retailer. In another word, a gigantic vending machine for vegetables.
The project we want to create a Feminist City. And the modern cities have been planned to segregate different aspects of life; homes, shops, factories and offices are all in separate areas.

Reflection: This first part of my micro-project 3 is based on the growth of coral. Mainly focusing on the branching behavior. The speculation is an underwater data centre. However it is cannot be considered as a strong propostion. Questions asked during the presentation was, “Why it has to be underwater? And what does underwater change your building?” I found ourseleves difficult to answer these questions. Further more, rather than studying and utlising the behavior of coral, what I did is simply mimicking the form of coral braching.

Reflection: At the beginning of the experiment, we need to consider the various data of the site, and the distribution map of the real database. The entire structure of the database is more like a rehabilitation centre, and the quality of the space is like a small community, where all kinds of data are generated, stored, distributed, etc. Through the continuous growth of coral, the exterior of the building is surrounded and extended, and the final vision for the building is constantly growing and changeable.
This project is an idea that focuses on the data of travelers. We wanted to create an invisible electromagnetic spectrum environment to make an unhuman data center and fully automatic data center. The data center is about the “user” narrative. So it’s all built with a user-centered design, a kind of center where you can plan data and record user data, and the tool we use is a drone, and the drone is used to transmit data, instead of human acquisition of data, it can be used to guide the way and as a gps. The conveyor belt is used to transmit data hard disk and drone, and the rest of the barrel model is used to store drone and data.

Reflection: The main proposition of this mid-sem project is automation. Our speculation at first is a centre of monitoring the whole world. We imagined a dystopian world that data centre acting as a central administration by monitoring. However, the panel questioned this proposition, this dystopian data centre is not getting anywhere, because the topic is way too general. In Patrick’s word is “ Don’t try to save the world.” So we decide to develop our work based on the idea of automation, and combined with my micro-project 2 proposition - vertical farming. What automatic farming would look like and function is the question we will answer.
