The ATL Parks & Rec afterschool program provides engaging educational, recreational, and cultural programming. Our safe, supportive, and structured environment promotes a healthy and active young lifestyle. The combination of education and play empower our youth to tackle the next school day with a positive outlook on life and community.

Ages 5 – 12 Locations: Adams Park, Arthur Langford Jr., Anthony Flanagan, Bessie Branham, C.T. Martin, Dunbar, Grant, Grove, Rev. James Orange, M.L. ATLANTA TEEN LEADERS (ATL) The ATL Program gets teens involved in their community while receiving leadership training throughout the school year. We aim to educate, empower, and equip young people to set extraordinary personal goals, operate with high moral and ethical standards, and perform with professional excellence.

CULTURE CLUB The Culture Club provides cultural and academic enrichment that contributes to the growth of each individual. Participants receive a healthy snack and homework assistance from the After School All-stars. Local artists and arts organizations such as the Atlanta Music Project and Dance Canvas lead classes in performing arts, visual arts, string instruments, and choral instruction. Ages 5 – 12 Locations: The Gilbert House and South Bend Center for Arts and Culture

ALL-INCLUSIVE THERAPEUTIC AFTERSCHOOL Coan Park Recreation Center offers a variety of Adapted Sports and Therapeutic programs that encourage participants with special needs to get involved. Programs include Beep Baseball, Beep Kickball, Beep Goalball, and Theater. Please call the center to find out more information on adult and youth therapeutic programs. ACADEMIC ENRICHMENT Students are assisted by a certified teacher with homework, daily reading, and web-based math tutorial programs. In addition, youth are provided various cultural enrichment experiences from experts in the fields of art, drama, music, dance, martial arts, and more.

TECHNOLOGY Recreation centers are equipped with computers to provide access to the internet for homework and school projects. Students will use leading academic, standard-based assessment software programs to aid with core math and reading comprehension areas. Recreation staff will track participants’ progress throughout the afterschool program.

YOUTH FITNESS AND HEALTH Partnerships with agencies in the sports and fitness field bring dance, martial arts, gymnastics, and tennis to our program. Participants are led in a variety of activities that engage and strengthen the body, teach sports and sportsmanship, and address making healthy choices in nutrition. Some centers offer swim classes and organized athletics for an additional fee.

CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT AND TRAINING Centers offer community service and character building programs in addition to activities that allow youth to become civically involved in their communities and promote understanding of good citizenship in their neighborhoods.
