Letter from the SHOWHOUSE CHAIR

Welcome to the 27th annual Cashiers Designer Showhouse! It’s an honor to chair the Cashiers Historical Society’s signature fundraising event this year. With the ongoing growth in our community, it is more important than ever to support the Cashiers Historical Society and to have a strong voice in our future development. The Showhouse and its special events facilitate this goal. We have 10 days packed with exciting events for your enjoyment! Do take advantage of them because they only occur once a year. This year, we are thrilled to showcase 15 talented interior designers, each poised to spark your imagination. They have been carefully chosen to embody the spirit of our local community and originate from towns that align with locations from which our population has migrated. This event could not happen without the benefactors and corporate sponsors who serve as the strength and base of a totem pole. Building upon the ‘pole’ are the committee chairs and the numerous volunteers. And I would be remiss not to personally thank Amelia and Lauren at CHS for their immeasurable support and assistance. And, thank YOU for being here!

Letter from CASHIERS HISTORICAL SOCIETY

Amelia Golcheski

It all began with a house. In 1996, a group of community members with a passion for history and preservation chose to protect and preserve the Zachary-Tolbert house. Long a fixture on 107 South, the Zachary-Tolbert house is a unique example of Greek Revival architecture in the mountains of southern Appalachia. It also tells the story of Cashiers from the 19th century until the dawn of the 21st century. By restoring the Zachary-Tolbert house, community members laid the cornerstone for the Cashiers Historical Society. We’ve been preserving the history and culture of the Cashiers Valley ever since. Funds raised from the Cashiers Designer Showhouse allow us to continue our mission to preserve the tangible and intangible heritage of this corner of far western North Carolina. Throughout the year, we offer educational programs for adults and children alike. Check out our website for more information on how to attend those events. Thank you for supporting CHS by attending the Showhouse! After visiting, be sure to come to CHS to tour the ZacharyTolbert house—the house that started it all.
