WELCOME
MESSAGE
to the Greater Monmouth Chamber of Commerce. Connecting Monmouth County since 1929!
from the Executive Director. GMCC Connecting You to the Future of Business.
…from the Board Chair We believe that connecting professionals and business owners with partners and referral sources is an important part of local economic development and service to the community. We are therefore committed to helping our members succeed not only by introducing connections but also providing a great number of local resources to help members maintain and develop their business. The Greater Monmouth Chamber of Commerce continues to be widely respected as the area’s leading association for Monmouth County businesses. This has never been more true than the past year. Membership in GMCC continues to climb due to the programming and networking opportunities we afford all of our members. We are excited to continue to offer our small business healthcare plan. This allows our members to give their employees’ healthcare at a reasonable cost. With the assistance of our friends at CentraState Healthcare System and Qualcare Insurance, the CentraState Community Healthplan is a health plan specifically designed for the small to mid-sized business in the county. Offered only through local chambers, this plan is designed around the successful plan in place at CentraState itself, keeping costs at reasonable levels for the employer yet providing tangible value for the employee. In addition, rewarding wellness and healthy behaviors are built into the plan to move to sustaining such value. Our Young Professionals Group led by Jonathan Ranieri continues to serve the up and coming of our business community. This dynamic group of professionals have instilled a new dimension into your chamber membership with tangible benefit to the community. In addition to the networking opportunities this group provides such as the annual softball tournament at the Blueclaws Stadium and its after-hours mixers, YPG also hosts annually the Caring for Karaoke program to raise funds for a selected local charity. The program, held at the Stone Pony, was a huge success. The 2016 recipient, JAR of Hope, is fighting against Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Together the YPG and our sponsors were able to raise over $11,000 in this fight to find a cure. I am humbled to serve as chair for this wonderful and worthwhile organization. Please feel free to reach out to any of the board members or staff with your ideas and thoughts. We are here because of you and to serve you. Thank you for your continued support and confidence.
Hi, and welcome to the Greater Monmouth Chamber of Commerce’s Business Directory. Here you will find a listing of all of our members and much useful community information. First, I would like to take a moment and thank the 2015 Board of Directors for all they did in the last year. I would especially like to thank the Immediate Past Chair Rich Mackesy for his dedication, hard work and guidance. Last August both myself and Rochelle, our Office Administrator, began working at the Greater Monmouth Chamber of Commerce and we are both excited about the direction in which GMCC is moving. With the support of the 2016 Board of Directors, we will continue our hallmark events such as the Circle of Excellence, Caring With Karaoke and the ATHENA Luncheon. While maintaining these programs, we will be adding relevant educational forums targeted toward providing local businesses with the most up-to-date professional development tools and even MORE networking events. It is the goal of the Chamber to help cultivate your business and employees, hoping that together as a community we can harvest successful businesses within the greater Monmouth County region. With this, not only will businesses thrive but Monmouth County will continue to be the place you want to live, play and work! Just announced in 2016, we have started a partnership with another chamber of commerce. This partnership will allow our members access to over 500 businesses in the community. This is just one more step toward enhancing the benefits we offer our members. So I encourage you to not only be a member of the Greater Monmouth Chamber of Commerce BUT be involved, join a committee, come to our networking and educational events and get the most out of what we have to offer. Thank you for your ongoing support of GMCC and I look forward to continuing on our success of being a valuable resource to your business. Best,

HOUSING
BUSINESS & INDUSTRY
Monmouth County offers its residents an exceptional quality of life.
Monmouth County offers local businesses and industries a major advantage thanks to several international airports, intercontinental railroads, the East Coast’s most strategic ports and a superb network of interstate highways.
Here in the central portion of scenic New Jersey, just fifteen miles or less to the Atlantic's beaches, and just an hour or less from either Philadelphia or New York City, residents enjoy unlimited housing options. Our thirteen formerly agricultural communities are rich in history and scenery. The villages – like Freehold, Englishtown, Colts Neck, Roosevelt and Farmingdale – offer two hundred year old, well-maintained homes in picturesque village settings, often with hundred-year old trees in the boulevards and parks. The townships, where the majority of residents now live, offer everything from historic farm houses on a few acres to planned residential developments with hundreds of neighbors, in well designed and perfectly maintained communities. The school systems have been designed to accommodate young students, as well as teenagers. Elementary schools are typically quite close to home, often within walking distance for many students. The high schools and vocational schools are centrally located and are often within a tenminute drive for most students. Because so much of Monmouth County is former farmland, interspaced with large groves of mature trees, residents of this beautiful part of New Jersey often comment that they live in a pastoral community and are blessed with an excellent road system that quickly takes them to work, to school, to shopping and entertainment.

These significant advantages enable our community to take its place among the best places to do business in the mid-Atlantic region. Clearly, this is a great place for business and industry to locate or expand. Equally important to the success of business operations is the community’s exceptionally strong work ethic. Add to those advantages our extraordinarily high level of education, a favorable tax structure and AAA bond ratings, and you get a community that can’t be beat. Among the major names that have chosen to call Monmouth County home are CentraState Healthcare System, Monmouth Medical Center, Brookdale Community College and New Jersey Natural Gas. Other major industries include health care, banking, management services, and retail operations. These employers rely upon the availability of the well-trained, highly skilled work force that exists in and around the county. Even though agriculture is no longer the dominant industry in Monmouth County, our area, thanks to its growing season of almost 200 days, is home to a large number of farms and nurseries. Monmouth County’s farmers are major producers of cabbage, barley and peppers. According to recent statistics available from the Rutgers Cooperative Extension, the county ranks first in equine training and breeding facilities, second in the state in certified nurseries, floriculture crops, horse farms and Asian continued page 6

TRANSPORTATION Monmouth County offers its residents an exceptional quality of life. Monmouth County is located midway between two of the nation’s largest metropolitan areas – Metro New York and Metro Philadelphia.
vegetables; third in sweet corn and sod and Christmas tree farms; and fifth in alfalfa, soybean, pepper and tomato production. The county currently ranks 5th in the state in tourism dollars, according to the Monmouth County Department of Economic Development and Tourism, and it is the state’s fourth largest industry. While the seashore attractions on the eastern part of the county comprise much of that amount, western Monmouth County has successfully attracted visitors to our region’s museums, historical sites, battlefields, fairs and festivals, county parks and auto and horse racing events. The Monmouth County Department of Economic Development and Tourism, an agency of Monmouth County, provides assistance at every level of business development to businesses that are growing and expanding in Monmouth County. This “one-stop shop,” located right in the heart of downtown Freehold, offers entrepreneurs and established businesses one-on-one assistance in locating and purchasing land and buildings. The agency’s staff provides information on obtaining permits, developing site plans, and designing financing packages. The staff also provides assistance with workforce development and readily links employers with any other agency or organization that may be of assistance. The Monmouth County Workforce Investment Board (WIB) is actively working to bring together the public and private sectors to oversee Monmouth County’s workforce development activities. The WIB provides services to employers in a unified and efficient manner. Among its accomplishments is the development of a countywide Welfare-to-Work program, a One Stop Career Center, and the creation of a Youth Council to provide work-related programs for at-risk youth.
Monmouth County is located midway between two of the nation’s largest metropolitan areas – Metro New York and Metro Philadelphia. Both metropolitan areas are no more than an hour away by private automobile or by numerous public transportation options. Thousands of our county’s residents commute daily into these major business markets, and thousands more regularly travel significant distances from home for shopping and recreation. Whether you drive or use public transportation, you’ll find getting around in Monmouth County a real pleasure. U.S. and state highways traverse the county in all directions and are supplemented by an excellent county and municipal roadway system. Four major highways travel north to south through our community – the New Jersey Turnpike, Route 9, Route 18 and the Garden State Parkway, which provide access to all of our nearby shore communities. Route I-195 provides access from and to Trenton, our state capital. From our northern and eastern Atlantic Ocean shores, frequent and reliable passenger rail service is available seven days a week with sleek, comfortable trains to New York City, Newark and the Hudson Waterfront. Monmouth’s Bayshore is just south of New York Harbor. Business commuters can use high-speed ferry services from Highlands and Atlantic Highlands to Pier 11 Wall Street and East 34th Street in Manhattan. NJ TRANSIT and private companies operate many bus routes throughout the county. Frequent service is available along State Routes 35, 36 and the Garden State Parkway to New York City, Wall Street, Newark and the Hudson Waterfront, while service along U.S. Route 9 operates to many destinations every few minutes at all hours of the day. Several connecting local bus routes serve area employers, shopping centers, health care providers and recreation-

Monmouth County residents generally use Newark Liberty International Airport and Philadelphia International Airport for their domestic and international flights. Both airports are about one hour from most points in the county – on high-speed parkways and Interstate highways. Atlantic City International Airport and JFK are just over an hour away via the Garden State Parkway. Allaire Airport in Wall Township provides private and corporate aircraft owners with a first class municipal airport operation.

HEALTH CARE CentraState Healthcare System – Your Community Partner! In 1962, a group of citizens came together and began raising money to build a small, community hospital in Freehold. Today, this independent, community-based hospital is part of the CentraState Healthcare System, a nonprofit community health organization consisting of an acute-care hospital, an ambulatory campus, three-senior living communities, a family medicine residency program, and a charitable foundation. CentraState continues to maintain deep roots in central New Jersey. Our mission is to enhance the health and well-being of our community through the compassionate delivery of quality healthcare. We are a community partner for not only care, but perhaps more importantly, the preservation of good health, which is why our focus has changed dramatically in the last fifty years. We are increasingly centered on helping people get and stay healthy through our on-site fitness center, health and wellness lectures, health screenings, rehabilitation, nutrition counseling and education programs for children. For the past several years, CentraState has earned a reputation for its comprehensive cancer care, and in 2013, the Statesir Cancer Center at CentraState affiliated with the John Theurer Cancer Center at Hackensack University Medical Center for oncology services. We recognize that driving hours to a specialized center for a cancer diagnosis and for frequent treatments can take a toll on a cancer patient during an already stressful time. Patients can continue seeing their primary care physician, while getting treatment from their cancer team who work with their primary care physician, locally. Our cancer team is comprised of oncologists who are trained at renowned national cancer centers, including Harvard, Memorial SloanKettering, and the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, and surgeons trained in the latest minimally invasive procedures, including two who are among the first in the world to perform groundbreaking, video-assisted thoracic surgery. It’s also advanced treatments like robotic surgery and the latest clinical trials with promising new developments. By building out a

comprehensive array of cancer care services, we are able to address patient needs, right here close to home. CentraState is also offering small businesses in our community access to more affordable health plans through the Affiliated Physicians and Employers Health Plan, a MEWA trust, administered by QualCare. One of the available plans is the CentraState Community Health Plan. CentraState’s teaching program is sponsored by Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
Monmouth Medical Center Brings its Trusted Services to Western Monmouth County In 2012, Monmouth Medical Center, a Barnabas Health Facility, marked 125 years of providing its patients with compassionate care and clinical excellence. Today, as New Jersey’s only Certified Quality Comprehensive Breast Center of Excellence, the nationally recognized Wilentz Center is committed to providing even more women with convenient access to its renowned services. Bayshore Community Hospital - The Little Hospital Doing Big Things Located in Holmdel, New Jersey, Bayshore Community Hospital offers convenient and personalized services on an inpatient, emergency, and outpatient basis. Since joining the Meridian Health family in 2010, the continued momenwww.greatermonmouthchamber.com
tum at Bayshore has attracted considerable attention from the community and physicians alike, with more than 335 physicians joining the medical staff, as well as numerous charitable gifts to the hospital. Since joining the Meridian family, Bayshore has grown its Center for Bariatrics, one of the most comprehensive in the region, and a designated “Center of Excellence.” In addition, the Center for Sleep Medicine opened in 2013, providing the clinical expertise of a hospital sleep center but in a comfortable, home-like setting. The hospital also provides patients with an outpatient wound management system that offers a larger and more modern healing environment complete with hyperbaric oxygen treatment at the Center for Wound Healing. Yet another program that has expanded over the years is Bayshore’s Women’s Center, which features fellowship trained breast imagers, digital mammography with CAD technology, and evening and weekend hours. In October 2013, Bayshore qualified as a Primary Percutaneous Coronary Intervention hospital and is approved to provide primary angioplasty procedures to patients experiencing a heart attack. In fact, the hospital boasts a faster door-to-balloon time better than the national average. As part of the Meridian CadioVascular Network, Bayshore has significantly expanded its service capabilities with the opening of two state-of-the-art OR-compatible catheterization labs that perform complex endovascular, cardiovascular intervention, and interventional radiology procedures. Yet another recent growth area at Bayshore is seen in its ability to provide exceptional care for patients facing a cancer diagnosis with a multi-disciplinary approach at its brand new Cancer Care facility, opened in October 2015. Part of Meridian’s $128 million investment in cancer care, this new facility means that patients can stay close to home to receive advanced treatment. Despite Bayshore’s hometown feel, this little hospital has been doing big things, with expansion plans on the horizon.

RECREATION & ENTERTAINMENT Monmouth County is a great place to live, especially if you enjoy the outdoors.
Thanks to Monmouth County Government’s vision, the communities that make up Monmouth County are blessed with exceptional recreational opportunities. Great biking, hiking, birding and beaches are just minutes from home in any direction. Additionally, history is all around you, especially at Monmouth Battlefield State Park. In addition to the fascinating history available to visitors to this premier state park, the park provides over 25 miles of hiking trails on old farm roads, footpaths and field edges on its beautiful, rolling countryside. When winter conditions are favorable, visitors can enjoy cross-country skiing and snow shoeing on all of the trails. The county’s natural environment is enhanced by more than 34,000 acres of protected public open space that includes more than 11,000 acres of county-owned parkland, conservation areas and golf courses. Four major rivers flow through Monmouth County – the Manasquan, Navesink, Shrewsbury and Shark Rivers. A number of recreation areas are easily within a half hour drive of downtown Freehold. As a bonus, twenty-seven miles of pristine Atlantic Ocean beaches on the Jersey Shore are no more than thirty to forty-five minutes from most residents of Monmouth County. Deep sea and fresh water fishing opportunities abound throughout the region. The Bryn Johnson Recreation Area, located in Upper Freehold Township, consists of nearly 43,000 acres, much of which will be preserved as open land, and part will be developed for outdoor recreation. With over 25 golf courses, golf is obviously a major attraction in Monmouth County. But, from the perspective of the serious golfer, this beautiful part of New Jersey is close to paradise. In fact, two of the top fifty rated public golf courses in the country – Hominy Hill in Colts Neck and Howell Park in Howell – are part of the Monmouth County Park System. The Monmouth County Park System celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2010. The County Park system began with 24 acres of surplus land leftover www.greatermonmouthchamber.com
from the construction of the Garden State Parkway in 1960 and created Shark River Park in Neptune. Each year approximately 4,000 recreational programs are offered through the Park System, in addition to its host of parks, forests, gardens, (wetland/ marine habitats, golf courses, historic sites, recreation areas and conservation properties). Enhancing the natural advantages of our community are dozens of manmade attractions – including Six Flags Great Adventure, two outstanding horse-racing parks, a nationally renowned drag racing facility, summer concerts at the outdoor PNC Arts Center, numerous community theaters, two of the state’s largest shopping malls, antique centers and week-end flea markets, marinas, an incredible county owned and operated parks system, and fourteen public and private golf courses. Shopping is, of course, an important aspect of any community. And the residents of western Monmouth County are blessed with unique and personal shops in all of our numerous villages – offering great service and interesting items. The Freehold Raceway Mall, located just west of downtown Freehold near New Jersey Battlefield State Park, is a world class shopping experience offering five major anchor stores, plus over 200 other retail stores, specialty shops and eateries. Monmouth Mall is one of Central New Jersey’s leading shopping destinations, featuring four major anchor stores, more than 120 places to shop and dine and a 15-screen AMC Multiplex Theater with IMAX. Certainly, dining, restaurants, taverns and nightclubs are important to a community, and Monmouth County, in particular, is blessed with an exciting assortment of options – from casual to gourmet, from chic to fun. With all these advantages and attributes, it is no wonder that residents and visitors alike find the area exciting, charming, gracious, and a wonderful place to discover more of life.

Like most country villages in colonial America, Allentown developed around its mills. The earliest mill was built by Nathan Allen in 1706 on York Road, where it crossed Doctors Creek. As the farms in the area grew, so did the need for blacksmith shops, wheelwrights, carriage makers, chair makers, shoemakers, and seamstresses. By the end of the 18th century more than 24 commercial enterprises existed in this small, rural village. Allentown was also a center for travel across New Jersey. The York Road (now known as Main Street) was a main road across Jersey from the Amboys to Burlington. The town became a busy stage stop and as many as four taverns or inns existed in the area. There are currently 220 buildings and homes in the designated Historic District that date prior to 1860 and some dating back to the 18th century. Today, Allentown Borough continues to maintain its rich history while also offering the almost two thousand residents of this historic, New Jersey borough with the best in unique community living.

Colts Neck Township is centrally located in Monmouth County and is one of the larger municipalities in Western Monmouth County. The southern part of Colts Neck, along Route www.greatermonmouthchamber.com
34, is owned and managed by the federal government as part of Naval Weapons Station Earle. While the township held on to its historically agrarian character for much of the twentieth century, the township is now almost entirely residential, with much of the community reserved for large lot residential development. Settled in 1847 as Atlantic Township – renamed Colts Neck in 1962 – this lovely community of green pastures, orchards, sprawling horse farms and lovely lakes and reservoirs has become increasingly popular as a great place to live. Careful planning on the part of the township has made it possible for Colts Neck to manage significant growth while maintaining the beauty of its landscape. The Township maintains eleven official park and open space facilities in addition to various greenways located around residential neighborhoods. The Swimming River Reservoir and Dorbrook Recreation Area take up a significant portion of the northern part of Colts Neck Township. County Route 537, in the southern part of the township, is one of the most scenic drives in Monmouth County. It passes through large farmsteads, lush pastureland, orchards and horse farms.

Although its earliest settlements date back to 1688 with property owned by James Johnston, Englishtown is named for the English family that purchased a large tract of fertile land in Monmouth County sometime before 1730. During the historically significant Battle of Monmouth (June 28, 1778) Englishtown was the headquarters for the American army. The Village Inn, still located in the borough, served as General Charles Lee’s headquarters. In the dining room of this inn, General Washington and Lord Stirling drew up the court martial papers citing Lee for his conduct during and after the battle. For more than
a century, the inn served as a stagecoach stop offering food and lodging to the weary travelers between the cities of New York and Philadelphia. During the Revolutionary War, one of Monmouth County’s main roads ran from Monmouth Court House (now Freehold) to Englishtown and on into Middlesex County. Because Englishtown was on this main highway it developed into a trading center for the surrounding countryside. In the middle of the eighteen hundreds and early nineteen hundreds, Englishtown was a busy, prosperous country town. Many of the existing homes were built in the later part of the eighteen hundreds, and a few homes that were built in the seventeen hundreds still remain as part of Englishtown’s heritage. Englishtown is located on scenic Lake Weamaconk. The village contains quaint shops, eateries, as well as the Historical Village Inn on its main thoroughfare, which leads to two major New Jersey attractions – the Englishtown Auction and Flea Market and Old Bridge Raceway Park. These two popular destinations bring visitors from throughout the mid-Atlantic region to Englishtown on weekends.

Known as "Today's Town... with Yesterday's Touch," Farmingdale, and its Main Street, date back to an Indian path toward the Manasquan River. In 1830, construction of a Manasquan River Dam led to the discovery of a 4-mile triangular deposit of Marl, a natural bed of fertilizer beneficial to farm crops. The town of Farmingdale started out with two stores, two taverns and 10-12 dwellings. Farmingdale was formerly known as "marsh's bog" and then Upper Squankum. It became Farmingdale in 1854 and in 1903 was incorporated into its own municipality. Now, more than a century later, governed by a Mayor and Borough Council, Farmingdale, at 0.5 square miles in land area, is an established residential and light industrial community of approximately 1,600 residents. Its vibrant, small-town commercial district meets the needs of its citizens, whose well-maintained homes on small lots evoke memories of days gone by. A look around Farmingdale today still speaks of yesteryear. It is this commitment that ensures the values and economic stability of Farmingdale for future generations.

Settled in the late 1600s (and originally part of Freehold Township), the Borough of Freehold is steeped in history, especially for its role in one of the important early battles of the Revolutionary War. Just prior to the Battle of Monmouth, fought in the hills just west of the Borough (now the site of an important New Jersey State Park) the village was occupied by the British for two days. Although the Borough of Freehold is a small community in terms of population, it serves two primary roles – it is the county seat for Monmouth County, and it is the downtown for much of Western Monmouth County. The famous courthouse building in the heart of Freehold was constructed in 1715. Freehold Borough is a walker’s delight. The village contains dozens of blocks of Victorian homes, quaint shopping districts, and a thriving central business district downtown. Additionally, Freehold is the center of judicial and business activity in Western Monmouth County. Although a major regional shopping center – Freehold Raceway Mall – is located just west of Freehold, the residents, politicians and business owners in Freehold have worked to keep the central business district alive and flourishing. A Special Improvement District to revitalize the central business district downtown, organized by the members of the Freehold Center Partnership, has helped maintain and revitalize this historically important and visually attractive downtown. Restaurants and shops in Freehold are busy and thriving. In addition to its retail and office activities, the Freehold Center Partnership has been actively involved in urban renewal and restoration. New office buildings and parking facilities have been built, and the Karagheusian Rug Mill facilities have been converted into 100 units of affordable senior citizen housing and 100 units of affordable family housing.

Settled in 1684 by immigrants from Scotland, and established in 1693, Freehold Township is one of Monmouth County’s three original townships and one of its largest. The township is home to a major regional shopping mall – Freehold Raceway Mall, featuring an outstanding anchor line-up including Nordstrom, Lord & Taylor, JCPenney, Sears and Macy’s as well as over 215 smaller stores and eateries. The township is also home to the oldest daytime harness track in the United States – Freehold Raceway. For three centuries, Freehold Township has been a place where people could raise a family, earn a living, and live life in some measure of peace. Freehold Township lies equidistant from two of the largest cities in the country – New York City and Philadelphia,

but is also within a half hour’s drive of the Atlantic Ocean and the Jersey Shore. Because of this ideal location, many of the township’s residents are professionals who commute to surrounding financial centers for employment and to conduct business. Freehold Township currently contains 20 parks, including the award-winning 226-acre Michael J. Tighe Park. Facilities at the park include baseball, football and soccer fields, hockey and skate park, basketball, handball and tennis courts, hiking and biking trails, playgrounds and picnic areas. Another major facility, Opatut Park, contains several multipurpose fields, a softball field, basketball courts, restrooms, parking lots, and an open pavilion. Durand Memorial Arboretum is a 100-acre portion of the original Durand Farm which has been purchased by Monmouth County and Freehold Township for the purpose of passive recreation. Surrounding the Arbor is a large butterfly meadow, a mature wooded area with picnic benches overlooking a pond. Freehold Township is also home to Monmouth County’s Turkey Swamp Park and Monmouth Battlefield State Park. Recognized as “Western Monmouth County’s family town,” Freehold Township is committed to safeguarding this quality of life for future generations. To preserve and enhance the quality of life in Freehold Township, more than 9,170 acres of open space have been designated as permanent open space.

Holmdel Township is located at the northern end of Western Monmouth County. It is a rural suburban community located near exit 114 of the Garden State Parkway. Because of its proximity to the Parkway, residents from Holmdel can reach nearby beaches and shopping centers in minutes, and commuters can easily reach the major employment centers in and around New York City. Holmdel is home to Bayshore Hospital, one New Jersey’s finest healthcare facilities. There are five parks within the Township – Phillips Park, Holmdel County Park, Telegraph Hill Park (which contains the PNC Arts Center and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial), Allocco Park, and Labbe Park. Because of its strategic location in central New Jersey, Holmdel Township is experiencing extraordinary growth. At least a dozen planned residential developments are in some stage of planning or construction. Certainly, within a short time, the population of this beautiful community will increase substantially, although the township committee has stressed throughout the planning process that they intend to maintain Holmdel as a great place to live – with upscale housing, excellent schools and outstanding recreational opportunities.

Manalapan Township was incorporated in 1848 after splitting from Freehold Township. The township completely surrounds Englishtown Borough. Most of the historic Monmouth Battlefield site is located within the borough, as are the Englishtown Auction and Flea Market and Old Bridge Raceway Park. Agriculture has always played an important role in the economy of this part of Western Monmouth County, and still
maintains that role today. Farms of every description dot the landscape and coexist in a modern landscape filled with houses, shopping malls, small businesses, and restaurants and taverns. For a town whose name means “good bread,” Manalapan has a great deal more than bread to boast about. This exciting community of more than 38,000 residents is thriving, planning for the future, and aggressively preserving its rural heritage.

Known today for its exclusive residential communities and excellent school systems, Marlboro began as an agricultural community in the late 1600s. Formally established in 1848, the township is called Marlboro after its rich deposits of the natural fertilizer – marl. Today, while lush farmland and rolling countryside are still found throughout the Township, agriculture now plays a modest part in the Township’s economy. The residents of Marlboro, as with most communities in Western Monmouth County, are employed in service industries, sales and in manufacturing and construction. The Township is home to the Marlboro Tree. This enormous black willow has been certified by the New Jersey Forest Service as a “State Champion” tree, signifying that it is the largest known tree of its species in the State of New Jersey, and the largest tree of any kind in Marlboro Township. Marlboro Township is the third largest community in terms of population in Western Monmouth County. Its community website has won numerous design awards, and is an extensive source of information about many aspects of living and working in Marlboro Township.

until 1990, the population of the township was exceptionally stable, with a total increase of no more than 400 residents, However, in the past decade, Millstone Township has “been discovered” and the population has increased dramatically – by more than 70 percent – to its current population of 10,478. Millstone is a lively agricultural community with a lovely downtown district and an active residential population. It is still a thriving and lively agricultural and horse community –with a proud rural heritage and with an extremely promising future. Recent residential development throughout the community has been planned and incorporated into the environment. Projects, like the exciting residential golf community known as Charleston Springs, continue to enhance the quality of life of the township, while maintaining the community’s respect for its agricultural heritage.

Roosevelt Borough, named for President Franklin D. Roosevelt, was established in 1937. Built under the New Deal’s Resettlement Administration, it was settled by Jewish garment workers from New York and Philadelphia. Originally, the town included a cooperative factory, a retail store, farms and residences. Since World War II, Roosevelt has grown into a larger, mostly residential community. The borough has traditionally attracted unique individuals with compassion, insight and skill. For artists, professionals, environmentalists, craftspeople, farmers and business owners, the desire to succeed and excel has set Roosevelt apart from other communities. What is particularly exciting about Roosevelt is that it is so new in comparison to its neighboring communities. Where other towns in Western Monmouth County are three centuries old, Roosevelt is just seven decades old. Yet, the community has established a cohesiveness that is similar to communities much older.
