DELIVER SEAMLESS SOUND WITHOUT COMPROMISE
Choosing the right speaker to meet a customer’s aesthetic needs and produce the great sound they want is no easy task for integrators. When you add challenging environments into the mix, such as garden spaces or wet rooms and spas, then it can become even more complicated. Make the right choices with AWE.
At AWE, we’ve recently expanded our range in all these areas to turn these potentially problematic situations instead into promising business opportunities for integrators.
Meet Stealth Acoustics and Polk Audio, now available exclusively from AWE. Two fantastic speaker brands providing architectural, invisible and outdoor speaker solutions that blend high audio performance with great aesthetics, inside or outside the home. First of all, let’s look at the Stealth brand.
Stealth Invisible Speakers are the premium range of invisible speakers available to integrators. The recently re-designed L-RAD Speakers improve installation and increase performance levels, acting as the perfect solution for interior designers, architects and demanding clients.
Offering a flexible solution for every interior aesthetic, these speakers become completely invisible after installation in a wall or ceiling. On-site finishing options include latex paint,
light wallpaper, fabrics and selected texture coats, leaving no visual footprint. In addition to maintaining the aesthetic integrity of any space, the speakers also deliver the superior sound quality Stealth Acoustics is known for, in any application - surround sound, multi-room audio setups, or background music in residential or commercial locations.
These invisible speakers feature new internal components and a new injection-moulded frame and back box produced in-house at Stealth’s newly expanded headquarters in the USA. Because L-RAD speakers become a
permanent part of the wall or ceiling, they are built for longevity and backed by an incredible 20-year limited warranty!
For garden audio solutions, Stealth StingRay provides an innovative line of IP68 rated outdoor speakers designed to meet the toughest demands of residential, commercial and marine applications. StingRay speakers set a new standard in outdoor audio solutions by combining outdoor audio durability and exceptional sound dispersion with ease of integration.
Stealth Acoustics offers increased options for exterior excellence
With an IP68 waterproof rating and fully sealed moulded construction, these speakers are water, dust and pest resistant, making them the ideal choice for outdoor entertainment or use in a wet or humid space like a pool room. The no-metal exterior design eliminates the risk of rust, ensuring that they stand the test of time and remain visually appealing. By operating reliably in temperatures ranging from minus
18° to 65° C, StingRay speakers are built to withstand everything from seaside salt spray to winter frost and glaring sun, reducing the integrator’s need for costly service visits.
The 170° sound dispersion pattern ensures a broad, even sound field, allowing for flexible placement and easy adjustments around obstacles without compromising audio quality. This makes StingRay ideal for integrating into
complex layouts, whether in sprawling gardens or around commercial venues, as they don’t suffer from the ‘flashlight’ directional sound effect of traditional speakers. There are also two innovative hybrid StingRay Soffit Kit models for under-eave mounting providing a range of flexibility to deliver discreet and elegant solutions.
PERFECT POLK
We’re also delighted to provide integrators with speakers from the acclaimed Polk Audio range too.
The Polk Audio Atrium Series is designed to withstand all weather conditions and provides high-quality sound for music, entertainment and social occasions in both indoor and outdoor environments.
Within this range, the Atrium 4, 5, 6 and 8 are outdoor speakers that feature a rustproof aluminium grille and stainless steel/brass hardware. The Atrium 8SDI can also be used as a high-performance stereo speaker or as a component of a stereo pair thanks to its dual tweeter array and single/dual input switch. The Atrium Sub100 and Sat300 can be used independently or as a package and the Sub100 is an outdoor subwoofer that delivers superb bass impact thanks to its 10-inch, long-throw Dynamic Balance woofer with dual voice coils. Everything is housed in a moulded, acoustically sealed resin enclosure that’s marine-certified with an IPX68 rating. Finally, the SAT300 is a compact and versatile full-range satellite speaker that can be hung from the ceiling, mimicking a light fixture; wall mounted; or planted in landscaping. It’s perfect for lowprofile coverage anywhere your customer wants consistently great sound.
Polk also offers speakers for inside the home which help meet aesthetic and performance requirements. The Vanishing Series of InCeiling and In-Wall Speakers combine a discreet design with exceptional performance. Featuring Dynamic Balance Polypropylene Cones, these speakers deliver crisp mid-range, powerful bass, and high efficiency, making them an ideal choice for Dolby Atmos and whole-home audio. Their wafer-thin Sheer Grilles™ ensure virtually invisible installations, blending seamlessly into any interior space.
Built to fit and perform reliably within highmoisture environments, such as bathrooms and wet rooms, transitional areas, or under eaves, the RCI Series are cost-effective In-Ceiling and In-Wall Speakers made with rust-proof stainless-steel hardware, durable butyl rubber surrounds, powder-coated aluminium and painted steel grilles.

Since 1998, Artcoustic has been engineering groundbreaking loudspeakers of unparalleled quality. Delivering cinema-quality sound that remains true to its origin, our high-performance, modular speakers are handcrafted and customizable to complement any interior.
THIS SETS ARTCOUSTIC APART FROM OTHER LOUDSPEAKER BRANDS
We spoke with Kim Donvig, Co-founder and Designer of Artcoustic Loudspeakers, about what makes Artcoustic unique.
Artcoustic has been in the industry for nearly three decades. What sets you apart from other loudspeaker brands?
At Artcoustic, we prioritize performance, reliability, and expert support. We work closely with installers to ensure every setup delivers consistent, highquality sound.
How did you overcome early challenges in ensuring reliable performance?
Speaker positioning plays a crucial role in sound quality. To address this, we developed highsensitivity driver arrays and controlled dispersion patterns. Our sub/satellite system enhances midrange clarity and minimizes the impact of reflective surfaces, ensuring consistent audio performance in any environment.
Subwoofer placement is often a challenge. How does Artcoustic help?
In many installations the importance of subwoofers are underestimated, which can lead to imbalanced sound. We introduced down-firing bandpass subwoofers to improve efficiency and reduce distortion. Additionally, our consultancy service provides installers with acoustic reports, SPL mapping, and phase alignment guidance, ensuring optimal system performance.
How has Artcoustic adapted to evolving home cinema and immersive audio technologies?
With the rise of Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, we developed the Spitfire series, designed for scalable system configurations. Our improved directivity and crossover design ensure natural and precise sound reproduction, even in complex multi-channel setups.
What support does Artcoustic offer to installers?
We go beyond simply selling speakers—we serve as a partner to the AV industry. From planning to installation, we provide consultancy, acoustic analysis, training, and technical support, helping installers deliver the best possible experience with confidence.
What’s next for Artcoustic?
We continue to refine our technologies and enhance our support services. While the industry evolves, our commitment to consistency, quality, and expert service remains unchanged.
THE AGE OF OPTIMISATION
James Drummie, Product Manager at industry distributor AWE Europe, argues installers have never had it so good when it comes to specifying and installing a perfectly tailored loudspeaker solution for clients.
According to market research by FutureSource, the global professional loudspeaker market was worth $2,454.5 million in 2023 and is expected to grow to $3,374.4 million by 2032.
The research pinpoints some of the key factors that are driving this growth, including increased demand for professional audio speakers in commercial settings, innovations in wireless digital technology, better integration possibilities, and a thriving music production and recording industry.
It seems that loudspeaker installation has virtually no limits - with a huge choice of hardware solutions and the advancement of optimisation software, we’re in a golden age of professional audio.
ACHIEVING A SEAMLESS EXPERIENCE
In today’s modern home, creating a cohesive audio experience can be a challenge. Gone are the days when a home had a single audio system centred around a stereo in the living room. Now, homes often feature a variety of entertainment spaces, each with its own distinct requirements—whether indoors, outdoors, or even in the car.
Installers face the complex task of ensuring that the audio from these various systems sounds coherent, regardless of the different environments and configurations. From internal spaces like media rooms and personal listening areas to external zones such as patios or gardens, the goal is to maintain an integrated audio signature that feels consistent as you move throughout the home.
With high-end audiophile brands, this task becomes more manageable. For example, the Bowers & Wilkins range of loudspeakers and audio systems are designed to handle the diverse needs of today’s audio environments without sacrificing sound quality. Whether you’re installing a stereo system in a living room, a multichannel setup in a media room, or outdoor speakers for an al fresco experience, Bowers & Wilkins’ speakers are engineered to deliver a matching acoustic signature across all environments.
This consistency is what makes these highquality systems ideal for the varied spaces found in modern homes – and it’s also a key factor in making professional installation a standout choice for clients.
Multi-room audio streaming and processing software, such as HEOS, takes it a step further by joining the entire audio systems together, throughout the house. Connecting multi-zone amplifiers like the Marantz Model M1 and M4, or Denon and Marantz AVRs, installers can provide an effortless audio transition between spaces, while maintaining a uniform sound experience, even with vastly different
practical needs. For example, different rooms in a house—living rooms, kitchens, bedrooms, and outdoor areas— each have distinct audio needs, and the ability to tailor audio set-ups and ensures optimal sound quality in every space.
And - with another giant leap towards the age of audio optimisation - I must mention Digital Signal Processing (DSP) technology. DSP, as found in Denon AVR’s for example, allows precise calibration of sound in any space and helps to synchronise multiple speakers or zones, compensating for acoustical challenges like complex layouts, reflections, delays and a mix of materials that contribute to uneven coverage. By analysing a room’s acoustics, it can automatically adjust frequency response and equalisation to ensure audio remains crisp, clear, and evenly distributed.
HEARING IS BELIEVING!
Listen up – your client can’t hear what a loudspeaker sounds like from a spec sheet.
There’s really nothing like taking your client to experience the quality of the audio solutions available before they make a commitment to invest. Often – as we find here at AWE – this experience can lead to a client increasing their audio budget or even the scope of work.
Take your client for an audio demo – this could be a manufacturer showroom or a distributor demo space – let them hear for themselves and you might be surprised by how quickly a project goes from media room to multi-room.
NETWORKING EVOLUTION: L-ACOUSTICS EMBRACES AES67 TO ENHANCE INTEGRATION FLEXIBILITY
Nick Fichte, Business Development Director for Home & Yacht at L-Acoustics, showcases networked audio.
A LEGACY OF INNOVATION IN NETWORKED AUDIO
Since Christian Heil founded L-Acoustics and introduced line array technology, we’ve understood that synchronisation is critical to delivering pristine audio experiences. Line arrays work by positioning multiple speaker drive units in close proximity, functioning as one cohesive loudspeaker to ensure sound reaches the audience coherently. This configuration demands multiple amplifiers working in perfect harmony.
In the analogue era, engineers had to manually programme delays within amplifiers to ensure synchronised output across all drivers. Recognising these limitations, we embraced Audio over IP technology, becoming founding members of the Avnu Alliance and helping to develop the Milan protocol.
Milan-AVB is a standards-based protocol built specifically for deterministic, interoperable, and future-proof media networking in the professional AV market. Built on the IEEE Audio Video Bridging (AVB) open standards, Milan delivers time synchronisation and guaranteed quality of service, while allowing control and media data to coexist risk-free on a single network. As founding members of this initiative, L-Acoustics helped define device requirements at both the network and application layers to ensure reliable media streams, formats, media-clocking, redundancy and controller software compatibility. This commitment to interoperability makes Milan-AVB the gold standard for live sound environments where timing precision is absolutely critical.
BRIDGING WORLDS WITH AES67
While Milan-AVB remains the gold standard for live events due to its strict timing protocols, we recognise that the installation market has embraced other networking solutions.
Dante and AES67 have become ubiquitous in residential and marine projects.
Listening to our integrator partners, we’ve added AES67 interoperability to our LA7.16i and LA2Xi amplified controllers via a simple firmware upgrade, while maintaining our commitment to Milan-AVB. This dual-protocol support offers integrators unprecedented flexibility when designing systems.
L-Acoustics offers hardware agile enough to deliver networked audio flexibility
PRACTICAL BENEFITS FOR INTEGRATORS
For AV professionals, this interoperability delivers tangible advantages:
• Simplified Infrastructure: Replace complex analogue wiring with streamlined network connections. In a 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos cinema system, you previously needed to create multiple XLR cables between your AV processor and amplifiers – a time-consuming process with significant material costs. Now, a single Cat cable connects an AES67enabled processor to a network switch, with amplifiers connected to the same network.
• Digital Signal Integrity: Maintain pristine audio quality throughout the signal chain without analogue conversion stages that can introduce noise or degradation.
• Reduced Installation Time: Dramatically decrease the labour required for system deployment, allowing you to complete projects more efficiently.
• Future-Proof Solutions: As more devices adopt AES67 compatibility, your L-Acoustics installations will integrate seamlessly with emerging technologies.
• Cost Efficiency: Reduce expenses associated with specialised cabling, connectors, and installation time – savings that can be passed on to clients or reinvested in system enhancements.
This networking approach scales effortlessly to multi-room systems as well, with many modern streamers now featuring AES67 outputs that integrate directly with our amplified controllers.
L-Acoustics remains committed to providing professional integrators with tools that combine world-class sound quality with practical installation benefits. By embracing AES67 alongside our continued development of MilanAVB, we’re ensuring our partners can deliver exceptional audio experiences with greater efficiency and flexibility than ever before.
The foundation of our success in live sound reinforcement now extends seamlessly into the installation realm – providing integrators with networked audio solutions that are both technically sophisticated and remarkably practical.

THE LANDSCAPE RIBBON (LSR)
Ambisonics’ Landscape Ribbon LSR40, LSR60 and LSR80 loudspeakers pack a big audio punch from a compact size. All LSR’s are supplied configured to be used as an 8-Ohm solution, or with a high-quality, transparent 70V transformer on board, the LSR range can be free-standing or buried into the ground, and partnered with either a 10in or 12in subwoofer to best suit the application.
BOLLARD SERIES
All Ambisonic Bollard speakers feature the company’s high-performance round planar magnetic ribbon tweeter technology, and combines it with an integrated burial subwoofer to ensure superior high-frequency reproduction and clarity, with lower distortion at higher power levels. The targeted directivity and low drop-off of volume over distance give Ambisonic a serious advantage over rival speakers in
The ability to effectively zone areas in the garden and to reduce unwanted transmission of sound into the neighbouring spaces is a real game-changer in this field and, combined with exceptional fidelity, Ambisonic are really turning integrators’ heads.
Ambisonic Bollards are available in 6½-in, 8-in, and 10-in versions, with integrated subwoofers of that diameter. These feature down-firing drivers in 4-in, 5¼-in, and 6-in sizes respectively, toppedoff with the Ambisonic ribbon tweeter to deliver 360° sound dispersion. The sub is ported from the same opening as the midrange and tweeter for cohesive sound.
Bollard speaker sleeves are designed to withstand harsh outdoor elements, including moisture, heat and sunlight, while maintaining the aluminium’s attractive finish. The sleeve styles are available in three colours to complement their surroundings – Midnight Black, Stargazing Silver, and Champagne – All models are backed by a five-year warranty.
KEY DESIGN CONSIDERATION
When designing outdoor systems, it’s important to approach the space with the
same attention to detail as you would with an indoor system. Rather than covering every square meter of the garden with sound, the focus should be on understanding how the client will use the space. By identifying key areas, the audio system can be tailored to match specific needs through the DbM Design and Specification Service.
DbM typically offers three levels of audio solutions: back ground, entertaining and party. Additionally, detailed wiring diagrams are provided, as outdoor audio systems often require different configurations compared to indoor setups. This level of detail ensures that integrators can implement the design smoothly and that clients can visualise the system before installation begins.
DbM works closely with integrators to ensure they fully understand the possibilities and how the system can be scaled to meet client requirements. The goal is to offer solutions that balance budget with performance, delivering a high-quality audio experience regardless of space size.

Michael Johnson, Commercial Head UK and Global Marketing Director at Monitor Audio, explains what went into the design of the new Climate Series 3G, leading to it winning ‘Best of Show’ at ISE 2025.
At Monitor Audio, we feel that every space deserves speakers that deliver the very best audio performance, whilst looking as good as they sound. When we came to develop our latest range of Climate 3G ‘use anywhere’ speakers, we set out to create a product that combines the ruggedness of an outdoor speaker with the performance quality and industrial design traditionally utilised for indoor usage. A tall order indeed.
Utilising our Transparent Design Philosophy, we incorporated driver technology that we knew would withstand the rigors of outdoor usage. Our C-CAM metal domed tweeter, which has proved across our flushmount and HiFi speaker ranges to be rugged yet deliver the performance that is required of a true HiFi speaker, was the perfect start point. For outdoor usage, we created a special finish that further protects the delicate dome from the elements, without losing any of the performance dynamics and precision. Combined with our RST II (Rigid Surface
Technology) metal coned mid/bass driver, which offers the perfect pistonic motion for total realism and clarity, and an all-new dedicated crossover, we knew we had the basis of an exciting product.
Crucially, the industrial design needed to be fit for purpose, yet offer the user a delicate product that would blend into any environment. To achieve its IP66 weather-resistant rating, we couldn’t use a port, so we developed an all-new ABR (Auxiliary Bass Radiator) driver, which works in unison with the powered driver to offer improved low-end performance in a sealed enclosure. Encapsulated into a onepiece cabinet made from dense ABS and reinforced glass fibre, the rear panel of which is an entire ABR, the resulting design over achieved the performance we required, but needed a mounting system to compliment it.
Taking our proprietary flush-mount QuikLink technology to a new level, we developed a die-cast aluminium bracket that is installed along with the cable terminations prior to the speaker fixing. When installing the speaker, a single bolt holds both the speaker to the bracket as well as making the electrical termination, making it extremely simple to instal in any environment. The speaker can be positioned horizontally or vertically and can be
rotated by up to 180o, allowing the speaker to be aimed at the required position.
The resulting product range is the Monitor Audio Climate Series 3G, of which there are two models – the Climate Medium CL2M and Climate Small CL2S, with the mid/bass driver and cabinet size being the difference between the two. Deployment in any environment is simple, and performance is exactly as we want, whilst the timeless design blends with any architectural feature.
To say that we are proud of these speakers in an understatement. But it is even better when others agree, which is why we were so delighted when Residential Systems awarded Climate Series 3G its Best of Show Award at ISE 2025! Decided by a team of judges who rated the products on a number of criteria, including value, impact, and how unique they are to the market, we feel that our Climate Series 3G were deserved winners.
Packed full of dedicated engineering utilised to solve multiple issues, we feel we have finally created the perfect utility speaker – one that looks great whilst able to perform as well outside as it does inside.

THE ORIGIN OF SUCCESS
Jose Coelho, International Business Director at speaker specialist Origin Acoustics, offers some insight into leadership in the custom installation business and navigating the main challenges to achieve success.
Throughout my career my most popular presentations have often centred around the unique challenges of running a successful CI business. No matter where in the world I am, the same issues arise. Today’s economic landscape makes effective leadership essential, and as consumer demands evolve, leaders must not only adapt but also inspire their teams to embrace change and innovation.
After witnessing numerous companies in our industry struggle or even go out of business, I have developed a presentation to address these challenges. Its goal is to foster best business practices and add longevity. This article brings the essence of that presentation to a broader audience, aiming to support a healthier, more resilient industry.
UNDERSTANDING THE CHALLENGES
Many integrators underestimate the demands of running a business. We love our tech, enjoy getting hands-on with the latest gadgets, and often enter this industry as enthusiasts. But enthusiasm isn’t enough to build a sustainable business. A significant portion of companies that survive do so in a perpetual state of financial distress, always on the lookout for the next project to stay afloat. Living in this state of ‘survival mode’ is exhausting and unsustainable.
LACK OF FINANCIAL PLANNING
Many CI companies worldwide do not track profitability on a per-project basis. Even when they do, site revisits and call-outs—which are often unbilled—are rarely accounted for. It’s essential to remember that turnover alone isn’t everything; cash flow is king. Before taking on a job, ask yourself if your finances can truly support the project.
Staff training also poses a substantial cost. Most control systems have a steep learning curve and require ongoing commitment to training. Without a clear grasp of per-project profitability, it’s challenging to invest effectively in staff development and stay competitive.
Our industry is defined by rapid technological advancement. While this innovation drives opportunity, it also presents reliability challenges. Staying informed on technology trends is crucial—not only for strategy but for enhancing customer experience.
MAXIMISING EACH PROJECT
Knowing your customer is key to increasing profitability. Ask yourself: did you optimise each sale? Did you leave money on the table? Selling on emotion and truly listening to customer needs rather than focusing solely on wants can often reveal upsell opportunities.
BUILDING RECURRING MONTHLY REVENUE
Most integrators still lack Recurring Monthly Revenue (RMR) frequently send technicians to site without charging. Reasons for this range from low confidence as a profession— no electrician would waive a call-out fee—
to wanting to please ‘important clients’. Implementing maintenance contracts is essential. Beyond the added revenue, these contracts present valuable opportunities to reconnect with clients and generate additional sales. Your clients trust you with significant control over their homes and businesses; they will often be open to paying a monthly fee for peace of mind and ongoing service.
AVOIDING THE HARVESTER EFFECT
Small companies are often preoccupied with securing new business, which is, of course, vital. However, they rarely look back to evaluate past projects—missing chances to improve, upsell, upgrade, or support existing customers. Don’t adopt a ‘harvester’ mentality; make that second pass to cultivate relationships and additional revenue with your established client base.
A HOBBYIST INDUSTRY
Owning a custom installation operation remains a lifestyle business for many. According to CE Pro, 11% of companies in this field are one-person shops, with another 19% employing only two to four people. The love of our work is commendable, but it often means that business acumen is lacking. Don’t be afraid to delegate tasks to professionals who can manage areas you cannot or should not be handling yourself. For instance, hiring a qualified accountant to oversee your finances allows you to focus on generating quotes and winning new business—far better than staying up late in January organising receipts!
DUE DILIGENCE WITH SUPPLIERS AND CLIENTS
Just as you assess whether a project is financially viable, choosing reliable suppliers is critical to your business’s stability. I often say, “When everything goes well, every company seems excellent. True quality shows only when things go wrong.” Ultimately, if a project fails due to supplier issues, your clients hold you accountable; they paid and trusted you to select and install the best solutions.
I’m passionate about the custom install industry. The dedication, innovation, and attention to detail within this community are truly inspiring. This is an industry we’ve built together, and we work daily to ensure its continued success. The points outlined above aim to foster a sustainable, profitable, and enjoyable industry for all. Let’s continue building a vibrant future for the custom install sector, one smart decision at a time.
