LUTRON RadioRA 3 LAUNCHES!

A new system from Lutron brings integrated flexibility to UK homes and expanded market potential for integrators.

The UK smart home market is experiencing significant growth, with over 3.3 million households now incorporating some form of home automation. As homeowners increasingly seek intuitive control over their living spaces, Lutron Electronics’ introduction of the RadioRA 3 wireless lighting control system to the UK market reflects this evolving demand for integrated home solutions. RadioRA 3 unifies controls, intelligent lighting and automated window treatments into a single intuitive and customisable system.

UK homes present unique integration challenges, particularly given that 63% of residential properties were built before 1960. RadioRA 3’s wireless system architecture is designed to address this reality, enabling

homeowners to modernise spaces without re-wiring—a particular concern in heritage properties and renovated homes.

“We’re seeing a fundamental shift in how people interact with their homes,” notes Javier Segovia, Vice President of Sales and Services for the UK and Europe. “The focus has moved from isolated smart devices to cohesive systems that enhance daily routines.”

Consider a typical workday scenario: Morning routines begin automatically, with blinds gradually opening to natural light while task lighting activates in the kitchen. During home office hours, the system manages glare and lighting levels to support video calls and screen work. As evening approaches, lighting transitions to warmer tones, with preset scenes for cooking, dining, or entertainment. Everything can be programmed easily on the Lutron app and activated with a button press.

Lumaris RGB + tunable white tape light is a market first

MATCHING IMPORTANT TRENDS

These automated routines reflect a broader trend in home technology integration. Because smart home users prioritise systems that can grow with their needs, there is an increasing demand for flexible, retrofittable solutions. RA3’s wireless, modular approach allows homeowners to start with essential spaces—typically kitchens, living areas, or home offices—and expand the system over time without disruptive installation work to pull cable. Lutron’s ultra-reliable Clear Connect wireless technology, which communicates independently of Wi-Fi, streamlines system installation and setup.

Integration with existing smart home devices remains a key consideration—homeowners want intuitive technology with simple control that works harmoniously across systems and devices. RadioRA 3 uses Lutron’s proprietary LEAP API to securely and reliably integrate with popular temperature controls, audio systems and security devices.

Reliable technology is a crucial piece of the smart home equation, but it doesn’t have to come at the expense of superior aesthetics. “RadioRA 3 marries advanced control with elegant, state-of-the-art design,” says Javier. “The system components are made with authentic materials and hand-crafted finishes that not only match existing décor––they enhance it.”

The system’s UK launch coincides with two notable additions to Lutron’s design-forward portfolio: the Vierti keypad (seen to the left) and Lumaris RGB + tunable white tape light. Vierti joins old-world refinement with modern design and cutting-edge, ergonomic functionality in a keypad with hand-finished brass faceplates. A unique hybrid option allows integrators to elevate wall aesthetics while using existing wiring—so it functions both as a system control and a load control. Lumaris RGB + tunable white tape light, Lutron’s first internationally available intelligent light source, delivers accent lighting in a spectrum of vivid colour or dynamic white light to stairs, curved mirror edges, or the underside of cabinets

Remote servicing capabilities have also become essential, with recent data showing that 82% of UK smart home users value systems that can be diagnosed and adjusted without requiring on-site visits. RadioRA 3 is backed by the cloud-powered Lutron Connect project management platform, so installers can seamlessly design, program, install and support projects throughout their life cycles, with remote servicing at no additional cost.

For those reading this before the event takes place, all of these new introductions form a major part of Lutron’s presence at ISE 2025 on Stand 2H500 (Feb 4-7). RadioRA 3 and Vierti are available for specification and shipping now, whilst RGB + tunable white tape light will be available in Q2, 2025.

TIME TO RISE AND SHINE AS B.E.G. LIGHTS UP BUILDINGS WITH MOTION

A new product from lighting specialist B.E.G highlights the power of combining motion detection and well executed aesthetics.

B.E.G. has launched a new minimalist outdoor motion detector for building facades which has Bluetooth technology inside enabling it to be set up accurately and intuitively with the B.E.G. One app.

The German manufacturer will launch the Aleum range, which can be customised precisely to location, to the UK market this month.

B.E.G. has introduced a new rectangular lens shape to the design with four integrated PIR sensors, a 180° detection range, ‘creep protection’ so it has no blind spots and also detects people directly underneath it, as well as an adjustable range of up to 16 metres. The detector is electronically and mechanically adjustable and is controllable via Bluetooth using the app.

Paul Jones, Sales Director of UK & Ireland at B.E.G, says the two new Aleum models offer convenient, automatic lighting and security in outdoor areas of buildings. The devices are available in two versions including a white Aleum with a light lens and a dark model with

an anthracite grey housing and dark lens. In addition to a neutral white light strip, there is a choice of eight selectable spectral ‘Glow’ colours for illumination.

Paul underlines the longevity of the brand’s market leadership, “For almost five decades, B.E.G. sensors have stood for convenience, security and energy savings. Anyone who decides in favour of a B.E.G. outdoor motion detector receives a piece of sophisticated engineering.

“Lovers of minimalist architecture require stylish designer devices for building facades and B.E.G. fulfils this wish with the new Aleum outdoor motion detector. The design language is timelessly clear; like two cubes standing on top of each other. At the same time, the high quality B.E.G. Bluetooth technology allows the end user to set the sensor as they wish.”

Paul concludes, “The Aleum motion detectors are iconic, and not just because of their purist design. Accent lighting can be set to effectively emphasise the motion detector on the facade if desired.

“With Aleum, electronic adjustment is not just reserved for the electrical engineer as the user can also freely change the options.

For example, the outdoor motion detector can be set to a ‘party’ mode, to prevent presence-dependent switching on and off during meetings.”

QUIETLY SHADING THE WORLD’S MOST PRESTIGIOUS BUILDINGS FOR OVER 70 YEARS

EI caught up with Sam Shervill, Marketing Manager at Silent Gliss, a leading global supplier of motorised internal shading solutions, to discover the strengths and strategies that have kept the company as a leading brand for over seven decades.

So, assume we didn’t know Silent Gliss – introduce the company. What a nice change, as you can imagine, working for a septuagenarian business, I don’t get to do introductions very often!

Silent Gliss is the leading global supplier of interior window treatments – we supply curtain tracks, curtains and blinds to homes, hotels, offices and public spaces all over the world. We’re a third-generation family-owned Swiss business with a HQ in Berne and manufacturing locations in the UK and Germany.

Your products are everywhere - how do you supply all over the world?

We have wholly owned subsidiary companies across Europe and the Middle East. Outside of those countries we have a network of distributors who are trained to deliver the Silent Gliss service proposition. This combined approach ensures we have a global reach and our customers can have the same high expectations regardless of the destination of the products.

Silent Gliss is heading towards its 75th birthday – why so successful for so long?

I know, and we don’t look a day over 40! Seriously, we don’t take success for granted, we continue to work tirelessly to maintain our

reputation for excellent products. Whilst our business objectives evolve over time, what doesn’t change is our intention to provide the best interior window treatment systems in the world. Just as importantly though, is our commitment to support our products with expertise and exceptional customer service.

How has the shading landscape evolved for Silent Gliss?

Motorisation, Smart, the IoT has had the biggest impact on our business strategy. The landscape has changed so much since we launched the first directly driven electric curtain track back in 1964! Whilst we continue to challenge ourselves to ensure we’re producing the quietest, smoothest curtain and blind systems, we’re also developing Apps, drivers and motor technology. Interestingly, evolving technologies brings with it new routes-to-market and we’re working with a new generation of resellers, case in point the EI audience of integrators; they weren’t around back in 1964!

You mention Smart; what opportunities and challenges does this present for Silent Gliss?

Our challenge is to ensure our new technologies maintain our high-quality expectations - just because it’s not a metal track profile doesn’t mean it hasn’t got to be the best. Equally, the speed of change is exciting and terrifying in equal measure. Being able to deliver against today’s communication protocols is not enough, you’ve got to be working on the next one at the same time.

The opportunities come by way of the increasing interest and demand for connected homes and workspaces. Not so long ago, motorisation was the privilege of the few. Today, automation is a mainstream expectation. More specifically, the opportunity for Silent Gliss lies in developing non-proprietary products. We want anyone to be able to choose Silent Gliss products regardless of the control system they have chosen. We have invested in designing our products to use open-architecture so that we can be specified in any project, whether it’s a home, hotel or workplace.

What if I was to suggest that’s not unique – why should integrators buy from Silent Gliss?

Oh, controversial! Ok, so if I did agree with you (which I don’t!), I’d have to say that yes, there are other shading companies available, but you don’t get the Silent Gliss package. We’ve been in the internal shading business a long time and with that comes a wealth of experience and knowledge. When you work with Silent Gliss you know you’ll get collaboration and support at every step of your project process. Wherever you are in the world you know you can reach out to us for guidance and advice, we’ll even send someone from our technical team out to help you if needed. Even if you don’t need support today, you can be pretty sure we’ll still be around in years to come should you need it.

However, when elements of the original project now become part of the shading and lighting budget, the now lower cost to retain the AV system or cinema room into the project becomes a win win for the integrator and the overall project scope.

LIGHTING DESIGN IS ONLY AS GOOD AS THE CONTROL SYSTEM…

Matt Emberson, Sales and Marketing Director at sensor specialist Faradite, underlines that power is nothing without control.

I have had the pleasure of visiting some stunning homes. From modern builds with sharp lines, minimal interiors and vast glazing, to period properties that have been lovingly renovated to include the latest in modern technology while keeping beautifully ornate, unique architectural details. Without fail, all these stunning homes have carefully designed lighting. The combination of linear, downlights, pendants and lamps are meticulously blended to create spaces that are practical, beautiful and enjoyable for the homeowner.

The craft of lighting design is both an artform and a science. The lighting designer must use fittings that enhance the interior whilst delivering technically. The final layer of complexity for today’s lighting designer is to ensure the correct system is controlling the lighting. Even the most beautifully designed lighting can be drastically sold short by poor controls.

A properly designed control system allows users to easily control the lighting to deliver their desired ambiance at the flick of a switch. Or better still, without having to manually interact with the system at all.

TO CONTROL IS HUMAN, TO AUTOMATE IS DIVINE

Motion sensor technology allows the custom installer to create powerful automation for the end user. As the user enters the space the lighting fades up automatically to the desired scene. Timer schedules can be used so different scenes are triggered by motion sensors depending on the time of day.

At Faradite, we have long been purveyors of small, discreet motion sensors. Our range of flush mounted sensors, including an IP67 waterproof sensor and a rear mounted Pinhole sensor are trusted by installers worldwide. We know, better than most, that homeowners can often be keen for automation, but get turned off by having to see large bulky motion sensors on the ceiling. Whilst our range of motion sensors are small, our latest product, the Motion Sensor 360 - Plaster In offers a near invisible PIR solution, meaning integrators can give homeowners the automation they want, without having to darken their ceilings with large, unsightly pieces of plastic.

The new plaster in PIR creates a completely flush finished installation, and with the paintable front disk, the aesthetic impact on the ceiling

is minimal. We have also included a black lens cover option for darker ceilings. The mounting plate makes it easy to rotate the sensor to fine tune the detection area and even remove the sensor should there be any need for troubleshooting.

We have also included infrared blocking stickers with the sensor so the detection area of the sensor can be fine tuned to block any unwanted areas of the room from detecting motion. This gives the integrator more options when choosing where to install the sensor as the blocking stickers can essentially trim the detection zone to remove unwanted triggers.

Lighting designers have the pick of recessed downlights and now, our new Motion Sensor 360 - Plaster In gives an ultra discreet, completely flush PIR solution, allowing for powerful automation from a virtually invisible sensor. The Motion Sensor 360 - Plaster In redefines discreet.

The Motion Sensor 360 - Plaster In is available in both Volt Free and KNX varieties and is available now from www.faradite.com, or contact Faradite to find out more.

A SHARED VISION

“We are excited to work with Crestron dealers,” says Ian Claxton, Managing Director of CI Systems. “We share a vision for delivering exceptional shading solutions that meet the evolving needs of our customers. Now, we can leverage our combined expertise and resources to provide Crestron dealers with the best possible experience.”

Ian brings nearly 40 years of experience in the shading industry, supported by a team of colleagues with a combined 100-plus years of experience in manufacturing and supplying shades for both commercial and residential sectors.

AVAILABLE SOLUTIONS

CI Systems’ Shadow EMEA line integrates with much of Crestron’s hardware infrastructure, including QMT3 and QMT5 shade motors for roller shades. CI Systems’ popular roller shades use Crestron whisper-quiet QMT motors and offer a sleek, modern aesthetic through Shadow EMEA’s wide range of fabrics and colours. Compatibility with Crestron’s simple, highquality brackets allows for ease of installation and configuration.

Crestron Roman kits can also be included, creating a timeless and elegant look with Roman shades that use Crestron’s hardware kits. Integrators and interior designers can also choose from a variety of Crestron fascia options to enhance the look of the Shadow EMEA shades, including square, round and custom-shaped designs.

AVAILABILITY

Dealers will have access to a dedicated portal at shadowemea.com, providing a user-friendly interface for ordering shades and receiving support from the CI Systems team. The portal will be available in multiple languages, ensuring ease of use for all Crestron dealers. Dealers can estimate and purchase shades in GBP (£), euros (€), or US dollars ($), providing flexibility and convenience for international transactions.

CI Systems will provide dealers with robust support for Shadow EMEA shades, specifically around installation, fabrics and motor diagnostics. Further support for the QMT shade motors will be offered via Crestron True Blue Support, providing assistance once the CI Systems team has completed diagnostics.

Dealers will also have access to comprehensive training support from Crestron. CI Systems’ Shadow EMEA line of shades is powered by Crestron’s QMT shade motors and uses the same Crestron brackets, meaning Crestron’s online and in-person training resources are valuable tools for dealers to learn about installation and troubleshooting of Crestron’s QMT motors.

CUSTOMISATION

CI Systems’ Shadow EMEA offers a range of customisation options to create unique shading solutions. Enhance the aesthetics of shades with decorative poles available in various styles and finishes. Control light and temperature in skylights with custom-designed shading, or choose from a variety of roll-up shade options to suit different window shapes and sizes.

New fabric binders will also be available from CI Systems, featuring a European-focused collection of high-quality fabrics. This collection includes a wide range of textures, colours and patterns to meet the diverse needs of clients in the EMEA region.
