Russell’s Reserve 10 Year Old Bourbon has an aroma of cinnamon raisin bread, sweet vanilla and honey. The aroma gives way to notes of orange, cloves and oak, which are complemented by subtle undertones of maple and caramel. The finish is slightly warming, with a well-balanced complexity.

Ashley is also a new addition to the Urban Seeds Board of Directors, where she will be helping make a bigger impact in the local food sustainability movement. She is also the owner and lead yoga instructor for Wild Thing Yoga & Boutique, which has moved online due to the pandemic. OWNER @ DIVAS COOKIN FOOD TRUCK Latonya Davis started Divas Cookin (an anagram of her last name) in December of 2018. To say that she absolutely loves what she does is an understatement. Currently, Divas operates with an all-female staff; in fact, most of the employees are part of Latonya's family, including her daughter and a few of her cousins. While the thought of opening a brick and mortar restaurant is enticing, right now she's enjoying the food truck life and taking her delicious creations straight to the people. In addition to running Divas, Latonya spends time bettering our community, having fed the homeless over the summer and handed out free meals at voting stations this election period. She also provided free meals at the Show Up for Dawnita! (Wilkerson) event at Garvin Park. Most importantly, Latonya tries to help out whenever and wherever kids are in need. PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA PRESENTS PEPPERMINT POPS: A TRI-STATE CHRISTMAS LIVE STREAM | DECEMBER 5 | 7:30 P.M.
BELOVED ANNUAL PERFORMANCE OF HOLIDAY CLASSICS AVAILABLE ON LIVE STREAM FOR $15 It all sounds like a broken record at this point but the ongoing pandemic continues to disrupt events around the tri-state with live music all but non-existent. However, the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra has held true to the old saying, "the show must go on," staging concerts this season at the Victory Theatre to limited audiences per Covid restrictions. But considering the overwhelming popularity of the EPO's annual Peppermint Pops performances, it was paramount to make available another viewing option with both shows already sold-out to subscribers. And that option comes in the form of a $15 live stream for the December 5 concert at 7:30 p.m. Now the whole family can gather around the computer and watch the tri-state's best orchestra expertly interpret all of your holiday favorites - all from the safety of your own home. With new Music Director Roger Kalia conducting his first holiday show with the EPO, he'll offer up a fresh take on the annual Peppermint Pops program. Themed "A Tri-State Christmas," the concert will feature a number of local collaborations with performers from around the area. The orchestra will groove to Duke Ellington’s orchestration of Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker Suite with a full big band on stage, and the Evansville Philharmonic Chorus will perform spectacular new arrangements of traditional holiday classics. Selections include Alleluia Venite Gaudete and "It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year" performed by a brass quintet, plus Bob James & Kenny Loggins’ "Celebrate Me Home" with local jazz musicians, and "What Child is This" as an oboe solo. The chorus performs "O Magnum Mysterium" and "Cool Yule" with the children’s choir joining them for "O Holy Night." Handel & Quincy Jones’ "Hallelujah!" from Handel’s Messiah: A Soulful Celebration concludes the concert featuring local musicians and soloists. Keep in mind that while tickets for Peppermint Pops are sold out, you may still be able to attend the annual Old National Bank Candy Cane Express program that precludes the main event on December 5 at the Victory Theatre. For ticket availability and more info, visit evansvillephilharmonic.org or call 812-425-5050. To purchase Live Stream tickets at $15 for the December 5 at 7:30 p.m. performance, patrons must have a valid email address and can purchase by calling the EPO ticket office at 812-425-5050 or order online at evansvillephilharmonic.org.

STILL MISSING:
Family of missing Evansville woman offering $2500 reward for information on her whereabouts
DAWNITA WILKERSON Back in October we reported on the sad case of Dawnita Wilkerson, a beloved Evansville woman missing since Father's Day. While the search continues to locate the 44-year-old African American mother of six, her family is now offering a $2500 reward for information leading to the discovery of her whereabouts. It's hoped that this financial incentive will encourage someone to come forward and help solve the mystery of what happened to Dawnita after she left her brother's Evansville home on Sunday, June 21. Understandably, Dawnita's family is absolutely heartbroken over her disappearance, particularly her six children who are struggling to adjust to life without their mother. NEWS4U DECEMBER 2020 | CUISINE & DINING
CLEAN BITE LIFE Healthy Cooking with Lindsay Rasure
I really wish that I could claim this recipe as my own. I made these cookies about a month ago, and I cannot stop thinking about them. I was on the hunt for a delicious gluten free chocolate chip cookie. This recipe is hands down my favorite! Who would have thought that tahini and almond flour could result in such an amazing cookie? The recipe creator does not mess around with her ratio of chocolate chips to dough. I concur that more chocolate is better! Recipe: www.kalejunkie.com
TAHINI CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES MAKES 16 COOKIES
Ingredients: •
1 c. fine almond flour
•
1 c. tahini (I used Fresh Thyme organic brand)
•
½ c. maple syrup
•
1 egg
•
1 tsp. baking soda
•
1 heaping cup of chocolate chips
•
1 scoop of unflavored collagen (optional)
•
Sea salt flakes for topping
Directions: 1.
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
2.
In a medium size bowl, mix together the almond flour, tahini, maple syrup, collagen peptides (if using), and chocolate chips!
3.
The dough should be thick. If it's not, add a little bit more almond flour.
4.
Mix to ensure everything is coated well, and place the
bowl in the refrigerator for 30 minutes. DO NOT SKIP THIS STEP, THIS IS THE MAGIC! 5.
While the dough is chilling, preheat oven to 350 F.
6.
Remove bowl from the refrigerator, and add the egg and baking soda, and mix together until fully incorporated.
7.
Using a cookie scoop or spoon, scoop dough and form 16 cookies.
8.
Bake for 10-11 minutes.
9.
Remove from the oven and let the cookies settle before eating!
10. The key with these cookies is to slightly undercook them, so that they are nice and crispy on the outside and SUPER CHEWY on the inside. 11. Sprinkle sea salt flakes on top. 12. Store leftovers in the fridge. *These cookies also freeze really
well. I took leftovers and used press ‘n’ seal to combine pairs. When I have a craving for cookies I take a pair out and microwave for about 20 seconds.

DR. RENDEZVOUS The fusion solution: new tristate band flips the script on genre-bending debut EP On a sunny Friday afternoon in November, the four members of Dr. Rendezvous convene for an overdue practice session in a home on Evansville's north side, having taken some days off since the group's sociallydistanced Halloween show at Bokeh Lounge - and thankfully, News 4U is there for what may effectively be the only way to see the tri-state's new genre-bending band play live for the foreseeable future. And that's because the conscientious group of guys - vocalist Dakota Madden, guitarist Josh Taleno, bassist Andrew Downen and drummer Tristan Arnold - don't feel totally comfortable performing at bars during these troubling Covid days and have elected, post-Bokeh, to sit it out until the situation calms down. But despite the moratorium, Dr. Rendezvous treats us to a full-on (and all masked-up) mini-concert of four intense tracks off their upcoming EP recorded with producer Steve Tyner. The earplugs PHOTOS: AMANDA BREEZE
kindly offered up are a sign of the sonic barrage to come; each titanic song is cerebral and precise with elements of progressive rock yet packed with punk energy - and wonderfully loud. The neighbors probably aren't thrilled but this is what live music's all about. The genesis of Dr. Rendezvous stretches back four years when Downen and Madden started jamming together and playing covers - which the pair tired of eventually, itching to write some original songs. The material was bluesy in nature, initially, but as various other members joined in - and left - those outside inuences began to

shape the sound of Dr. Rendezvous in a more interesting direction. Especially after Taleno entered the picture. The uncommonly talented guitarist not only chose to stay but brought an entirely new dimension to the band with his love of prog rock, post-punk and psychedelia. In short
order, the songs began to mutate and grow into visceral musical beasts. But it wasn't until Arnold was tapped to fill in last minute for a show at The Spot coffee shop in Owensboro last March that everything truly fell into place. His rhythmic prowess catapulted Dr. Rendezvous to new heights and it was all systems go... And then the pandemic hit. Unable to play shows, the guys instead hunkered down and wrote a whole batch of new stuff, truly coming into their own in terms of songwriting - a democratic process that sees all members contributing ideas. And though a song idea can come from any member, the ace in the hole might be Madden who, as a non-musician, creates off-kilter shapes, chords and melodies on acoustic guitar that are systematically transformed additional

Arnold, Downen and Taleno - who each bring their own imaginative riffs to the party that, after much tinkering, emerge as fully-formed fusion gems with Madden, the self-proclaimed "word guy," fitting vocals around the increasingly complex structures. When it all clicks, the results are extraordinary. Tracks like "Atlas," "Threadbare," "Bad Tendencies" and "Skin" are absolutely mindbending - and genre-bending - incorporating the best elements of 90s rock, alternative rock and progressive rock with hints of metal. And again, with a punk energy that leaves you wishing life would get back to normal ASAP so these guys can get out and play live. But for now we'll have to be satisfied with the upcoming EP (no official release date as yet) - which, if the killer rough mixes are any indication, should be a fine substitute for the real thing. The band intends to put out some CDs and look into offering merch soon, too, so just be patient and you'll be greatly rewarded in the near future.

THE ALPHA INCIDENT Ever-improving prog metal outfit adds new bassist, debuts "The Program" single and video
in town; "The Program" possesses both a beauty and aggression - an AI trademark - that's sonically conveyed to near perfection. Impressively, while Wade is responsible for the band's head-spinning guitar riffs, he's also become quite adept at composing on keyboard, setting the mood for this five minute opus with a haunting piano motif that creates an unshakeable uneasiness. 25 seconds in, Morrow's eerily soothing, double-tracked vocals appear backed by mournful synth strings and Van Bibber's stuttered drum beat. But it's simply the calm before the storm. At the 1:20 mark the dam breaks as the band goes full throttle, shattering the strangely serene musical vibe. From this point forward, Morrow shows why he's one of the tri-state's best frontmen, shifting from a gut-punching wail to a melodic cry to a deep-throated growl - all within the span of about 30 seconds. And then back again.
When we last caught up with Evansville's The Alpha Incident back in April, the band was down to a trio after

A step above Odyssey, AI's impressive 2016 debut, it signaled the makings of a truly great prog metal act. And that assessment's only been solidified by the release of "The Program," the band's first recording with new bass player Ellery Cochrane. Following the same strategy employed with "The Complex," guitar and bass parts were tracked at Wade's home before the guys reconvened at Black Cat Recording to lay down the vocals and drums. With a Blu-ray release set for January 15, actor Kevin Roach takes us behind the scenes of the tri-state's most anticipated film
the films The Confession of Fred Krueger and the Volumes of Blood series and jumped at the opportunity to be a part of Blood Moon's new project. We caught up with Roach to get his take on the 13 Slays experience. First off, what are your thoughts on anthologies? Are you drawn to films with various short segments? I love anthology films because you don't have to dedicate yourself to one, very long overall story and everyone that watches has a favorite story. I like the concept of it and that's kind of why I did it since it wasn't such a huge commitment. The wrap-around scenes are, you know, dialogue, dialogue, dialogue, let me tell you a story - and then, whoa, that was a crazy story and then more dialogue. You play one of the bar-goers that's part of the "wraparound" story. Tell us about your character. I play a character that's the brooding one of the bunch. Soon enough we'll finally get a chance to see how it all turned out; the anticipation is great indeed, since 13 Slays brings together both regional and national talent to direct a slew of creepy, holiday-themed segments effectively horror stories that are told via a group of five bargoers on Christmas Eve. And one of those storytellers is none other than Kevin Roach, actor and Managing Artistic Director for the Evansville Civic Theatre. He's previously worked with Starks and Huskisson on

NEWS4U DECEMBER 2020 | FILM
What was the filming process like for the wrap-around portion of 13 Slays? We filmed it really recently - in September at a bar in Owensboro. It was frustrating but it was a testament to how P.J. can get things done because we were filming on the weekend - and we started filming Sunday [when the bar was supposed to be closed] only to find out about an hour or two into filming that they are open on Sundays. We ended up having to call people back to film the climactic scenes, the death scene. And, you know, with me it's fairly easy except for getting around my schedule. But we had people from all over; we had a guy from Florida. So it was like, 'What can we film to get those people out of the way and then who can we get to come back and finish this on a different day?' P.J. handled himself very, very professionally - especially around the actors. I probably would have been very angry [laughs]. Now, do you have much experience shooting death scenes? They're not easy to pull off. No, they're not. I'm usually the one doing the killing - whether it be on film or on stage. Even in plays, I tend to play bad guys an awful lot. So it's always fun to be the person that gets killed but I don't even profess to be very good at it. Like, I'm good at playing a killer but I feel like I look hokey as somebody who's dying. Especially when it's like, gratuitous gore. Kevin Roach technically got killed in Volumes of Blood 2 and I asked P.J. about it - like, how do I fit in this universe? And 13 Slays is its own separate universe from the Volumes of Blood universe.

LOST IN THE WOODS Short horror film co-written by Unlisted Owner director Jed Brian achieves spine-tingling chills in under three minutes
screen. But perhaps the key to the success of the film is that it's beautifully shot, capturing the tranquil calm of the wooded scenery in juxtaposition to the mounting tension as two direction-challenged young women become increasingly concerned that they've made a terrible mistake in following a stranger back to camp. Lucky for Brian, shooting for Lost in the Woods wrapped up back in late February, just before the Covid lockdown took effect. And the film's been racking up thousands of views on YouTube since its late August debut. Next up? While there are no plans for an Unlisted Owner sequel, a director's cut is in the works with added footage. In addition, Brian directed one of the segments in the upcoming 13 Slays Till X-mas horror anthology produced by Blood Moon Pictures out of Owensboro, and he's got

Brian, a southern Illinois filmmaker, is best known for Unlisted Owner, a found-footage, DIY scare fest that landed in Amazon's Top 10 "hot new horror releases" upon its DVD release back in late 2017. A Blu-ray edition followed 18 months later, complete with 20 minutes of behind-the-scenes footage and new commentary with Brian and co-writer Tyler Landers. Brian has made several trips to Evansville over the last few years to promote Unlisted Owner, appearing on WFIE's Midday with Mike and scheduling signings at Barnes & Noble. But with no plans for a full-length followup, he opted instead to partner with Mañga to produce two minutes and 33 seconds of horror and suspense - a perfectly crystallized vision for our increasingly ADD world. The pair co-wrote Lost in the Woods for a small cast of four actors (including a cameo by Brian's wife Cassondra) who make the most of their limited time on

with Marisa Patwa POP STARS, PIES, POPULARITY AND POTIONS: NETFLIX DROPPING FOUR INCREDIBLE NEW SERIES IN DECEMBER
SELENA: THE SERIES (12/4)
Netflix continues to work to represent the stories of diverse ethnicities, and this is true with Selena: The Series, depicting Tejana singer Selena Quintanilla’s amazing, yet sadly short life. The role is played by Christian Serratos, and it’s well-deserved - the 30-year-old has been acting for years, always on the sidelines in supporting roles. Now, she gets to shine and show off her singing and acting chops with the spotlight on her (and of course, don Selena’s titular colorful jumpsuits). I imagine this will be a sweet, beautiful and musically gorgeous portrayal of the vibrant, late singer’s life.
THE GREAT BRITISH BAKING SHOW: HOLIDAYS (12/4)
Speaking of treats, from watching bakers feverishly eye their heating ovens in a variety of yoga-like poses to having saucy judges Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood maniacally laughing when they give out challenges (like deep frying donuts on one of the hottest days of summer), The Great British Baking Show is one of the biggest delights out there in the world of competitive baking TV. The premise is simple: some of the best amateur bakers compete in a white tent each week in timed challenges to showcase their skills. Some fry and some take the cake. And just in time for the holidays, we’ll get a short and sweetened version, with bakers competing in more festive challenges.
BRIDGERTON (12/25)
While we await the HBO Max Gossip Girl remake next year, let’s slip into a more salacious Downton Abbey this December with Bridgerton. The show is based on Julia Quinn’s bestselling novels about a family of eight wealthy siblings searching for love in high society London. It looks to be a soapy, witty drama and I'm excited for some camp, betrayal, love, plotting, and intrigue. The series is also produced by Shonda Rhimes, the mastermind behind Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, and How to Get Away with Murder, so get ready for some mind-blowing plot-twists and juicy surprises. I can already hear the “slay” bells.
CHILLING ADVENTURES OF SABRINA: SERIES 4 (12/31)
My favorite teen-witch, bloody-thirsty drama series, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, is coming to an end just before the beginning of a hopefully better and brighter year. And this will truly be a spell-binding conclusion with the young witch, played by the insanely talented and charismatic Kiernan Shipka, growing stronger with her powers each season. In season three, she dominated as the queen of hell, and it was so deliciously fun to watch her toss boys to the side as she became more confident in her position, realizing she can do it on her own. Here’s hoping for at least one nice broomstick scene and a Riverdale cameo in this haunted holiday show.

CHRISTMASTIDE, OH (BIWEEKLY)
An actual play podcast using the Kids on Bikes system, Christmastide, OH is based in a fictional town that acts as a blend of Sandusky, OH and Santa Claus, IN. Yes, the town does have an alternateuniverse Holiday World where the park is just Christmas. The first season finds the main characters as first-graders finding their feet and getting wrapped up in a Nancy Drew-ian mystery involving hidden cider, a missing horse, and pears. Several players are parents themselves and all grasp how to play a six-year-old without effectively playing tiny adults. The second season begins Christmas day, so there’s no better time to start than now! christmastideohio.com/
TALKIN’ NOG (ANNUAL)
Thanksgiving has the McElroy annual podcast Till Death Do Us Blart. Christmas has Talkin’ Nog. Each year on Christmas day podcaster Jeff Stormer uploads an hour-ish long recording of him answering audience questions about eggnog while sipping down a mug of the good thick stuff. All scored by the finest royalty-free fireplace crackling. The questions are ridiculous, Stormer’s answers even moreso. A not-insignificant portion of run time is dedicated to speculating the future of the character Nog from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Talkin’ Nog is just the kind of goofy, harmless content needed to wash away holiday stress. Available on most podcatchers
THE XMAS MISTAKE (ON HIATUS)
Hosts Daniel Manning, Chad Ellis, and Kate Devorak descend into the world of Christmas movies, specifically Hallmark-esque movies in which Christmas is more of a looming presence in the background of an otherwise holiday-agnostic romance - a looming presence the Xmas Mistake gang take to the extreme as they investigate the notion of “Christmas” as a Lovecraftian horror. The movies are buck-wild, the hosts are hilarious, the content is seasonally-appropriate. thexmasmistake.

THE ADVENTURE ZONE: GRADUATION (BIWEEKLY)
This is less of a recommendation for a podcast that might be new to you and more of a recommendation for those who fell off. The Adventure Zone’s third season saw the show returning to Dungeons & Dragons as their game system with Travis as the dungeonmaster, setting his campaign at a magical school for heroes and villains. This school framework, while interesting and important to the plot, set the show up for something of a different tone and plot than it ends up shifting into around episode 20. Quite a few fans of the series fell off in season three, myself included. But I highly recommend getting back on the horse and catching up. The finale is on the horizon and it’s getting good. maximumfun.

KATY P: I know what you mean - four years of Jim Carrey's over-thetop and totally unfunny impersonation of Biden could be worse than a second term of Trump. JOEY K: Come on, no one watches SNL anymore. It's on too late, anyway. TIMMY J: Dude, just ride the Bull like I do and you'll be totally wired 24/7. Won't make Carrey any funnier, though. JUDY D: You know, I actually think that everybody kind of won. Democrats got the presidency and the Republicans picked up some seats in the House and maintained control of the Senate. They'll pretty much be able to block any progressive policy changes. JOEY K: Who cares about that? I just want to know what Kanye plans to do next. After all, God called him to be the leader of the free world.
KATY P: Surely God has better judgment than that.
JIMMY G: It's true - Kanye talked about it in a recent interview with Joe Rogan. JUDY D: Yeah, but he also compared himself to the superhero Deadpool, so it's all relative.

VHS ADOPTION SPOTLIGHT
As the Wellness Director at Ivy Tech, Amy Lutzel is involved with the community college's popular PAWS 'N RELAX program which brings in therapy dogs to help de-stress students and faculty during the pressurepacked times of the semester such as finals week. Of course, the program isn't currently in operation thanks to the pandemic, but its scientifically-proven positive impact got her thinking about her own dog, Izzy; Lutzel imagined how neat it would be to train the sweet, 8-year-old rescue to be a therapy dog, too - especially since it would allow her to bring her furry friend to work more frequently and even take Izzy into certain classrooms for a visit. So back in February and March of this year, Lutzel set about getting Izzy certified...only for Covid-19 to rain on their parade. And now it's just a waiting game for life to get back to normal - whenever that may be. But Izzy is still having a great time, regardless. And why not? After all, she struck gold when Lutzel picked her out of the crowd at the VHS back in 2013. "Izzy was the only dog that wasn't barking when I went into the shelter," Lutzel recalls, "and that was kind of enticing to me. But what was funny was that once I adopted her and got her home, she did a lot of barking [laughs]." Maybe so, but she's proven to be an incredibly good-natured dog who gets along great with Lutzel's two cats and absolutely loves to go for long walks on the Greenway or the USI-Burdette trail. "Even though she's eight and a half, she'll easily walk four miles with me," Lutzel says. "She still gets so excited every time I get the leash out - it's like the first time for her." In a perfect world with no pandemic, Izzy would complete her certification and, in addition to accompanying Lutzel to work, would perhaps visit and spread good vibes at oncology centers and nursing homes around the area, too. That's the hope, anyway. According to Lutzel, the final stage of therapy dog training is reportedly scheduled for January, but that remains to be seen considering the current state of things. But again, Izzy is happy either way, just as long as she gets that daily walk in!

THE PROS & THE CONS with Barold Hume
To concede, or not to concede? That is the question...Trump vs. Biden Pt. 3 The downside of writing an opinion piece for an in-print publication is that by the time it sees the light of day, one's take on something may not even be relevant anymore - especially in this age of fast-moving, ever-changing news. Take last month, for example. I carried on at length about how Trump and Biden's first debate was something of a disaster and that, for good reason, there would likely be no follow-up encounter. Naturally, just hours after the November issue was uploaded to the printer, a second debate was announced. I point this out merely to provide an excuse in case this month's musings on the election process arrive DOA. But I'm banking on the very real possibility that the current situation will remain unresolved come December 1. And that's because Donald J. Trump hates to lose. Refuses to lose, even. So, I imagine that every single report of suspected voter irregularity will be explored and every viable legal maneuver employed until the clock simply runs out on the MAGA presidency. And really, that's totally fitting; it sums up the state of America. Trump
tri-state
supporters will never be convinced that the election was on the up and up no matter if God the Father himself appeared and deemed it so, and Biden supporters will continue to scoff at the mere mention of impropriety as if voter fraud was about as real of a thing as Sasquatch. There's no middle ground. Which is to say that whether Trump concedes or not has little bearing on anything. He clearly intends to remain steadfastly Trumpian until the bitter end - and more power to him. One thing you can say about the guy is that he never let his base down, and I guarantee the majority of the 70+ million people that stuck with him are firmly in the "never concede" camp. Of course, this collective stubbornness stands little chance of impacting the outcome - Biden is likely headed to the White House, regardless - but the final chapter of the MAGA years deserves a proper send-off. And hey, let's not forget that the Republicans, despite losing the presidency, scored some unexpected wins in the House and Senate, thereby preserving the power to impede the left agenda through 2024, at least. That much, Trump must concede.
Here's a novel idea. Instead of voting for a political party, how about voting for

each individual candidate? Seems simple enough, right? Unfortunately, state laws currently allow for straight party ticket voting and it's something that will probably never going away. But one can certainly hope. Since I'm a realist, I know that the Indiana General Assembly will likely never create a law abolishing the straight party voting system. Both political parties pretty much control our election process, and since both parties recruit a majority of our legislators, not one lawmaker will touch this concept with a 10

ARIANA GRANDE Positions Republic Records The ballad queen still slays with her sixth studio album, a welcome treat this year. I was elated earlier when Grande and Justin Bieber released their melodious banger “Stuck With You,” a perfect song to capture quarantining with loved ones and lovers during the pandemic. It was one of the first virtually filmed music video hits of the summer and truly set a standard this year. And now, Grande is following up with an array of incredible songs, which of course comes as no surprise as her musical and lyrical skills have been a gold standard since her Nickelodeon days. And she delivers that signature trap and R&B sound with tracks like “Positions,” featuring a hypnotic beat with silky smooth vocals and an empowering music video to boot. Other standouts include “Shut Up” and “Love Language,” which has a sexy, 70’s disco vibe. She also has some great features, from Doja Cat to Ty Dolla Sign and The Weeknd. Thanks, Ari. - Marisa Patwa
MEGHAN TRAINOR A Very Trainor Christmas Epic Records Meghan Trainor is delivering holiday hits with her debut Christmas collection this winter. And her fourth studio album is truly a delight. She covers plenty of classics, like “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas,” “Last Christmas” and “Silent Night.” Each track delivers a gooey, glow-y feel that makes you feel like you’re snuggled up in a cozy sweater by a crackling, warm fire with a hot cup of coffee and nothing but warmth in your heart. What I also love about this album is that her family agreed to collaborate, offering up their vocal, producing and instrumental services to the pop princess. And she also delivers six sensational original songs for the holidays, which is a hard feat to accomplish. Some fresh favorites include “My Kind of Present” with sweet lyrics like, “You and me for the holiday/ Sittin' by the fire, caroling/ Don't buy me anything/ Just put your hands all over me.” “Naughty List,” which has a tropical vibe, also hits the spot, while “Christmas Party" is a fun listen. I’ll definitely be playing this on repeat as I set up my pink Christmas tree this year. - Marisa Patwa

LITTLE MIX Confetti RCA Records In a world of masks and hand sanitizer, one thing that's a soothing comfort is the crooning of girl bands like Little Mix, who are still together (RIP Fifth Harmony). “Break Up Song” has a surprisingly fun 80s, synthetic pop vibe that would play during a montage of a teen rom-com. The title track is an addictive, hot beat, while “Rendezvous” is a sexy, playful song with cheeky lyrics like, “And you already know the time and place/ Come see me face to face/ I want you every day, in every single way.” And they offset their more upbeat dance songs with some gorgeous melodies as well, showcasing all of their insanely beautiful voices as heard on the powerful “My Love Won’t Let You Down.” It’s truly a tear-jerker and reminds you that these girls can sing without any effects or instruments and give you goosebumps. “Nothing But My Feelings” is a sweet teengirl song ripe for a Lizzie McGuire episode. Oh wait, am I in the wrong decade? Honestly, with such a variety in the sound of this album, it’s clear Little Mix has no problem time traveling through the decades. And I, for one, am along for the ride. - Marisa Patwa
AC/DC Power Up Columbia Records/Sony Music Australia The fact that this album even exists is a minor miracle. What with the death of founding member Malcolm Young, the legal troubles of drummer Phil Rudd and singer Brian Johnson's recent hearing loss, Power Up is an unexpected gift to rock and roll-starved music fans holed up in their homes across the world. Frankly, with life in a constant state of flux these days, it's reassuring to hear the tried and true, no frills approach of AC/DC once again; three chords and the truth never sounded so good. The songs on Power Up were written some years back by Malcolm and his eternally-youthful, schoolboy outfit-wearing brother Angus who continues to conjure those instantly identifiable choppy riffs - including the one that propels the propulsive lead single "Shot in the Dark" - on his trusty Gibson SG. And it's a joy to hear Johnson wailing like the days of old on "Demon Fire" and "Wild Reputation" - just two of an album's worth of unapologetic, meat and potatoes rockers sure to sate your appetite for the heavy stuff. - Johnny Fletcher
Blues with Bragin MAGIK MARKERS 2020 V2 Records Though they have been largely overlooked (by me and every indie rock fan I know), Connecticut noise rock band Magik Markers have been making music for the last 20 years. Though off the radar since 2013, the group returns with their first album in seven years with 2020. Going into this new release with the knowledge they are a “noise rock” band led me to believe 2020 would be a brash, chaotic affair. I was, instead, surprised to find it's a relatively calm album and one of the best I’ve heard this year. I’d say 2020 is a throwback psychedelic record that recalls the droning guitars of Black Sabbath, the carefree nature of Jefferson Airplane, and artistic sensibilities of late 60's avant-garde. Unlike the year 2020, which has been lacking in live music and full of despair for many, the album 2020 is loose and soothing with song transitions and production that make you feel like you're at a live show - a near-perfect album for the imperfect present. - Russ Finn
CLOWN CORE Van Self-Released Though Clown Core can easily come across as a novelty act, the clown-masked duo have undeniable talent and vision on their third album Van. The anonymous musicians (speculated to be the Los Angeles-based Louis Cole and Sam Gendel) dress in clown regalia and play an abrasive mix of free jazz and grind core using a drum kit, synthesizers and saxophone, topped with a healthy dose of screaming. Similar to the release of their 2018 album Toilet, in which Clown Core did a series of videos performing songs in a port-a-potty, the promo videos released in anticipation of Van feature the duo being driven around in, yes, a van while performing the songs from the album. All of the marketing and shtick of Clown Core seems like a joke, sure, but the music is undeniably interesting, unique, and worth a listen. - Russ Finn
ONEOHTRIX POINT NEVER Magic Oneohtrix Point Never Warp Records Reviewing Magic Oneohtrix Point Never may be the most difficult thing for me. On one hand, I think the music released by Daniel Lopatin over the last decade under the moniker Oneohtrix Point Never is supremely overrated. I find the bulk of his work to be formless - almost as if they are not songs at all, but merely weirdo sound collages. On the other hand . . . his music is almost completely his own and quite original, which I respect a lot. Maybe it’s just not for me. That being said, this may be Lopatin’s most accessible album yet. Though I still can’t get behind some of the choices he makes, some songs like “I Don’t Love Me Anymore” are undeniably cool (I’d recommend watching the performance from Jimmy Fallon). - Russ Finn
CHICKENBONE SLIM Sleeper Lo Fi Mob Records San Diego blues guitarist Chickenbone Slim kicks off Sleeper with “Vampire Baby,” featuring a great guitar riff that sounds like something from the 1950s. Slim’s guitar in the middle of the song shows his prowess. “Tougher Than That” features Slim singing about persevering during difficult times until happier days returned. Marty Dodson’s quick drumming on “The Ballad of Dick” complements Andrew Crane’s bass that sounds similar to Johnny Cash’s “Folsom Prison Blues.” “Strolling with Chickenbone” is a sock-hop inspired instrumental that will start your toes tapping. “My Bad Luck” gives Troy Sandow a chance to shine on the harmonica. All of the musicians give top-notch performances on “Ride” as Slim sings about riding on a train with his woman. “Helpless” is a somber tune featuring only guitar and vocals. The driving bass and drums on “Little Victory” sound like something from a cop show of days gone by. Sandow’s harmonica comes back forcefully on “Dignity” as Slim sings about wanting respect. Crane adds a funky bass line to help round out the song. “These Things Happen” closes the album with a grim look at life, but with a hopeful reminder to come together and pray for better outcomes. HAMILTON LOOMIS This Season Ham-Bone Records Texas guitarist Hamilton Loomis opens This Season with the title track, a funky bass-driven tune that talks about bringing healing to a broken world at Christmas. “Lay Around and Love” discusses the desire to stay home on Christmas and spend time with a lover. Loomis offers stellar harmonica work on the song. The ballad “Everything I Wanted” boasts a great waltz beat from drummer Brannon McLeod as Loomis sings about his woman returning after previously splitting with him. “Another South TX Christmas” discusses the joys of Christmas in warmer climates like grilling and laying out in the sun. The solid guitar work on “Underneath the Tree” fits well with the lyrics about patiently waiting for Christmas, wanting to spend time with family and enjoying simple pleasures. A guitar-driven instrumental version of “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen” offers a modern take on a timeless hymn. “Christmas Tears” features a guitar sound like B.B. King that works well with Loomis singing about his woman being gone. Loomis gives another top-notch guitar performance on the classic “Run Rudolph Run.” An acoustic guitar-centered version of “O Holy Night” ends the album with a beautiful touch. BRECKENRIDGE CHRISTMAS ALE

A thick off-white head tops this red hued IPA and stays for a long time. Malt notes first dominate the nose, with hops coming through a few seconds later. Likewise, the malt flavors hit the tongue first, with hops coming through in the finish. This is a good beer to serve around the holidays. Drink it by a cozy fireplace and serve with your favorite holiday dishes with good company.
This Christmas IPA has a light burgundy color and smells wonderful upon opening. You can tell there are hints of cinnamon and pine. Like most IPAs, it tastes a little hoppy at first, but it's not overwhelming. It also has a caramel malty flavor with a few fruity undertones. This Goose Island offering is perfect for the holidays and will warm you up with a 7.5% ABV.
JOHNNY FLETCHER - 4.5
Goose Island rarely disappoints with their selection of brews and this Christmas IPA is another one that totally hits the mark. While there's a noticeable presence of hops (in fact, six different hops are at work here) as is standard with IPAs, it's not overdone, and the subtle stone fruit and wood notes gel perfectly with the caramel malt.

A thick off-white head crowns this winter warmer style ale when poured in a traditional English pub glass. The smell of roasted malts fills the nose. The first sip of the beer seems balanced, but the sweet malt flavors return in the long finish. Use this beer as an ingredient to cook pork chops or serve it with your favorite meal during the holidays, especially hearty meat dishes like turkey and sweet desserts with chocolate.
Another yummy holiday offering, this mediumbodied Breckenridge ale has a nice copper color with a spicy smell, notably nutmeg. There's a pleasant, chocolaty taste that goes down smooth with a bit of a hoppy aftertaste. Like the Goose Island offering, this Christmas brew sports a healthy ABV that's sure to give you a boost as you wrap presents and prepare for your holiday gathering. Hint: makes for a perfect gift.
JOHNNY FLETCHER - 4
This is the sort of adult beverage that the holiday season was made for - a caramel and chocolateflavored ale that gives you a wonderfully cozy feeling as if you're sitting by the fireplace on Christmas morning. Featuring Chinook and Mt. Hood hops that create an appealing spiciness, it's balanced with a refreshingly clean finish and the high ABV will help you get through the holiday madness stress-free.

DOGFISH HEAD CAMPFIRE AMPLIFIER
PAUL BRAGIN - 3.75
A tan head rests on this beer and evaporates very slowly. Roasted malt features prominently in the scent profile. The roasted malt packs an even bigger punch with the initial tasting of the beer, with sweetness playing against the roasted malt in the long finish and marshmallow flavors coming through even later. Since it’s brewed with s’mores ingredients, it could pair well with a chocolate pie with a graham cracker crust and marshmallow fluff on top.
SARAH RUCH - 4.5
This is a milk stout that's dark in color, maintaining the look of a cola or root beer. The taste is sweet - but not overly so - with a chocolaty flavor, similar to a s'more with hints of graham cracker and marshmallow. It's malty yet easy to drink, just like most every Dogfish offering out there. And in keeping with this month's high(er) ABV theme, Campfire weighs in at 6.5%. Another holiday winner.
JOHNNY FLETCHER - 4
While I'm not big on sweet-centric beers, I have to admit that Dogfish Head has achieved a remarkable feat with Campfire Amplifier and its take on a s'more-flavored beverage. Granted, I can only drink one at a time, but that's just me. Brewed with marshmallows, graham crackers, cocoa nibs, cinnamon, Madagascar vanilla beans and smoked malt, it's as tasty as they come.

brewing fills the nose. The spices remain with the first sip, along with sweet malt flavors and more spices in the finish. Keep this beer on hand for cold winter nights by the fire. Pair it with brie, Brussels sprouts with bacon, roasted duck, turkey, carrot cake or apple pie.

This amber-colored winter lager has a strong malty aroma and is brewed with cinnamon, orange peel, and ginger. While easy to drink with an overall smooth nature, the taste is not terribly unique but it gets the job done. On the plus side, it may be the most full-bodied brew
up for review this month though it features the lowest ABV of the bunch at 5.6%. A pretty standard winter lager, for the most part.
JOHNNY FLETCHER - 4
True, this offering from Sam Adams may not change the world, but if you're looking for a lager that's not weighed down with a lot of unnecessary ingredients just for the sake of being different (here you'll get a nice mix of cinnamon, ginger and orange peel) you've found it. Not everyone wants an overly-clever craft brew - sometimes a solid lager is a blessing, especially during the holidays.
PLEASE DRINK RESPONSIBLY.

The Evansville-based trio of top attorneys - including Lane Siesky, Daniel Gearhart and Douglas Briody - boasts years of invaluable experience inside and outside the courtroom. Highly-respected with an impeccable track record, the firm's aggressive representation of its clients continues to benefit the community in myriad ways.
Q: I was in a wreck and the insurance company said I don't need an attorney, is that true? A: The fact is personal injury claims are an “adversarial process” and the insurance company is not on “your side”. In
part, insurance companies make money by collecting premiums and denying or delaying payment on claims. So, I do
not think an insurance company (even your own car insurance company) should be advising you as whether you need an attorney or not for your claim. Rather, that is a decision for you and your family after consulting an attorney who is on “your side”.

Q: I may have valid information that's related to an ongoing criminal case but I'm concerned about getting mixed up in the investigation. Is it advisable to speak to the police without a lawyer or should I seek representation first? A:
Having your own attorney to consult with before communicating with authorities is almost always preferable.
Consulting with an attorney can (1) protect you and (2) allow you to provide information without getting involved. First, speaking with an attorney will help ensure you do not unwittingly implicate yourself in the criminal conduct. Second, an attorney is bound by attorney-client confidentiality. In the situation you describe, an attorney can disclose information to the authorities at your discretion, but the attorney cannot be compelled to disclose your identity.
