TAKING THE ADAPTIVE SPORTS & ADVENTURES
The Gambrell Foundation Sustains Programming with 3-Year Grant
For over two decades, the Adaptive Sports & Adventures Program (ASAP) has served as a vital community program within Atrium Health Carolinas Rehabilitation, addressing the functional and therapeutic needs of patients through adaptive sports, recreation, and outdoor activities. Offering a wide variety of activities for all ages – such as curling, kayaking, cycling, pickleball, tennis, rugby, water and snow skiing, archery, fitness training, swimming, and hunting – the program helps individuals achieve an active and productive lifestyle without barriers or limits.
A $187,000 grant from The Gambrell Foundation will help sustain and bolster the program over the next three years, supporting the purchase of new adaptive equipment for athletes and providing salary support. In addition, qualifying ASAP athletes will have the opportunity to compete at the Adaptive Water Ski National Championship in 2022, followed by the World Championship in 2023.
