LUNCH AND LEARN September 21, 2017
Welcome! Since opening in 2009, the nonprofit AT&T Performing Arts Center has been a presenter of high-quality performing arts with a mission to provide a public gathering place that strengthens community and fosters creativity. The Center is made up of four premier and innovative performance spaces – The Margot & Bill Winspear Opera House, The Dee & Charles Wyly Theatre, Anette Strauss Square, and Elaine D & Charles A Sammons Park. The Center has welcomed over 2 million visitors to see over 4,000 performances at our premier venues! Fun Home will be presented in the Center’s largest performance space – The Margot & Bill Winspear Opera House. This traditional “horseshoe” shaped opera house seats 2,200 audience members and was engineered specifically for performances of opera and theatre. The principal performance space of the opera house, the Margaret McDermott Performance Hall, boasts many unique features, but the most impressive of them all is the Moody Chandelier. The chandelier is composed of over 318 LED lights and puts on a beautiful show before each performance- make sure you take your seats in time! As audience members at The Winspear Opera House you not only get to experience premier performing art, but you also get to play a vital role in the musical’s success! Here at the Center, we encourage teachers to
discuss their upcoming visit to the Winspear Opera House with their students. For many, it may be their first time viewing a live performance. Here are some helpful discussion points: • Ushers and Volunteers will help you into the performance hall • Photography and videotaping of performances is not permitted • The Winspear Opera House was designed specifically with sound in mind. Remember, even the slightest whisper can be heard by others or even the performers. • Laughter and applause are appreciated! Other audience members and the artists on stage will help you to know when each is appropriate. • When the houselights dim, make sure your cell phone is off and turn your attention to the stage. The performance is about to begin! • When the performance is over, make sure you applaud the artists. This is your chance to thank them and show your appreciation for their hard work! We look forward to seeing you soon!
