Nothing Replaces The LIVE Experience - This is our mantra this year. It is time to get back to celebrating the arts in person, with shared experiences and inspiration. So often, I leave the theater awe-struck at what I’ve just experienced; that’s what we aim for. This season will not disappoint.

Dance is such a distinct art form. Luminous, arduous, meaningful and inspiring. “I’m overwhelmed; this was not what I expected.” This is the reaction I most often hear from audiences, something our longtime subscribers have always known. Our 40+ years of experience affords TITAS the unique perspective of looking back and appreciating the amazing impact that high-quality, curatorial arts presentation has on a community, on a city.

TITAS/DANCE UNBOUND continues to present the most innovative, the most remarkable artists touring the world today. It’s time for all of us to return to the extraordinary shared performance experience, to leave our devices off and experience art with all our senses. Nothing Replaces the LIVE Experience!!!

The 2023:24 season won’t disappoint. International, creative and breathtaking imagery makes this an exceptional set of the world’s most interesting movement artists. We proudly present a season of ten extraordinary companies from the United States, Japan, Canada, Israel and France. Four of these companies are making their Texas/Dallas debuts with TITAS.

Thank you for being a part of another year of breathtaking performances, and thank you for actively engaging in the arts and for being a part of the TITAS/DANCE UNBOUND and AT&T Performing Arts Center family.

What we do together, truly does make a difference.

Makom, a perpetual search of a return to the place that brings us closer to ourselves.

Makom in Hebrew means “place” and describes a real or imaginary location.

Makom can also be a spiritual refuge, a home, wherever.

Company Philosophy

Vertigo is a contemporary dance company, offering a physical meeting place for artists and audience. Vertigo takes the viewer every time to a new or an unexpected, exciting and challenging journey into unfamiliar territories. Vertigo represents international standards of artistic excellence, with a social and community touch.

We see Vertigo as a messenger of Israeli Art at its best, at home and abroad, that comes to bring people closer together and touch them through the language of the body. As such, the company combines, in addition to its performances, master classes, workshops, co-productions with other companies from around the world and invites artists from different fields to create together with the company.

The community branch of Vertigo includes the Dance School, which operates alongside the company and enables everyone to study dance; the Vertigo Dance Workshop, which provides a professional framework for training dancers. Performances and workshops for every community, including the disabled, out of the belief that the dance language of Vertigo is unique yet universal and challenges the limits of the body.

Noa Wertheim, shortly after her graduation from the Rubin Academy of Music and Dance in Jerusalem, Noa Wertheim was accepted into the Jerusalem Tamar Dance Company. It was there she met Adi Sha’al whose professional dance experience included both the Bat-Sheva Ensemble and the Kibbutz Dance Workshop. Partners in life and dance, Wertheim and Sha’al founded the Vertigo Dance Company in 1992.

Wertheim and Sha’al’s first professional collaboration, a short duet called Vertigo, led to the establishment of their company of the same name. The inspiration came from the first-hand experience Adi had with the sensation of vertigo during his years in training with the air force. Vertigo – the performance – was built upon the concept of spinning out of control, not just in the air, but in relationships as well. Sha’al remarks, “Noa and I created a piece which looks at the loss of direction – the dizziness – in the human duet.”

ABOUT VERTIGO

WHO’S WHO

Noa Wertheim | Artistic Director/Choreographer/Co-Founder | The artistic director and choreographer of the Vertigo Dance Company, was born in the United States in 1965 and grew up in Israel where she first studied dance in Netanya. After three years of military service in the developing town of Yeruham, Wertheim completed her dance studies at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance in 1990 and, in 1992, together with Adi Sha’al, founded the Vertigo Dance Company, which is based in Jerusalem and in the Vertigo Eco Art Village in the Ella Valley where she lives with Sha’al and their three sons.

Under the artistic direction of Wertheim, who is an Honorary Fellow of the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, the internationally acclaimed Vertigo Dance Company has begun its third decade with an impressive repertoire of original works choreographed by Wertheim, whose distinct dance language inspires dance students and artists by encouraging interpersonal communication and community involvement.

Beyond her contribution to cultural life in Israel, Wertheim’s unique approach promotes social change by creating an artistic connection with the community and the environment, and this has been evident in the Vertigo Dance educational School, founded in Jerusalem in 1997, the Vertigo Eco Art Village, founded in Kibbutz Netiv Halamed-Hen in 2007, and in The Power of Balance, a dance program for inclusion of the disabled.
