Special Issue 2: Abolition of Slavery Day It’s called the bridge of sighs, and in Venice, it represents the passageway prisoners had to take from prison to court for their trials. It was named so because in this short moment of epiphany, the prisoners tasted some freedom, sighing in reflection and desperation regarding their existence. Photo by: Georgenia Bassily
