Permanent Collection Access

Immerse yourself in the artistic legacy of British Columbia as your guests wander through the Audain Art Museum’s Permanent Collection or Special Exhibitions. Spanning from the 18th century to present day, the Permanent Collection contains one of the world’s finest collections of Northwest Coast First Nations masks; a large collection of works by Emily Carr, as well as art by important post-war modernists such as E.J. Hughes, Gordon Smith and Jack Shadbolt. In addition to these historical works, the Collection showcases art by internationally renowned, contemporary British Columbia artists including Jeff Wall, Dana Claxton, Marianne Nicolson and Stan Douglas, among others.

At the heart of this collection lies The Dance Screen (The Scream Too), a masterpiece crafted by James Hart, Chief 7idansuu. Unprecedented in contemporary Northwest Coast art, James Hart’s elaborately carved cedar dance screen is unique in both the depth of the carving and the free-standing design. One of Hart’s most important works to date, the carving represents a strong connection to the traditions of the Haida.

The Audain Art Museum also displays Special Exhibitions each year, encompassing a variety of mediums, themes, artists and time periods. Recent exhibitions include Gathie Falk: Revelations, Manabu Ikeda: Flowers from the Wreckage, Wolves: The Art of Dempsey Bob and Out of Control: The Concrete Art of Skateboarding.

Starting at $1,000 per hour
