SLUNTING SHADOWS the light sinks in the space
Spatial frames
SUGGESTIONS
French Metal Rack (2015) - Marcante & Testa
History Repeating (2016) - Marcante & Testa
We move towards atmospheres that elegantly recreate the multiple values of living. The creation of an architecture of ‘counterpoint’, of emotion and of reason - in the spirit of renewing the sensibility of humanity.
LOCATION
SLUNTING SHADOWS the light sinks in the space
Turin, Piedmont - Italy
The project consists of an architectonic intervention in a classroom into a flat to accommodate university professors or external guests in the building of Pisa Street of the IAAD University. The classroom is located on the third floor and has a terrace. The room is completely windowed on two sides, creating a very bright atmosphere. It was necessary to include a bathroom, and in general to plan optimizing the space. There have been designated two main zones, the kitchen and the sleeping area.

1
The heart of the project is defined by the sleeping area - that’s elevated with a wooden floor. To preserve the privacy of the user, the space is enveloped by a perforated sheet structure that allows the light to penetrate.
2
«Space, light, order. These are things men need, like they need bread or a place to sleep.» - Le Corbusier
ORDER
A small office and the living room are generated by the configuration of the sleeping area. Near the entrance there’s the kitchen and the access to the bathroom.
The proposal division creates a ‘no-see-ums’ effect and defines an efficient partition of the room, without depriving it of natural light or reducing the size.

SUGGESTIONS
A Man’s Room (1936) - Franco Albini
Scipione Exhibition (1941) - Franco Albini
The revolution of the lines and of the materials transpare, so as the partition of the space. The research is driven towards the choice of poorer and more natural materials and wide and usable spaces, interpreting all their dimensions - even the vertical one. In this way, the result is a sort of decomposable and ‘not-packed’ products.

The project consists on a renovation of a flat located at the first floor. The commission is composed by a couple of university students, residents only a few metres from the indicated position. From an initial analysis, the home was badly distributed in the functional zones. Therefore, there were generated spaces that contribute to to comply with privacy and, at the same time, to create a common area useful to a pleasant cohabitation.
A warm and welcoming environment is created by the furnishings and by the inclinations of the structural elements. The large windows, in turn, constitute a luminous space.

ÂŤAt the base of the Architecture there is always a moral problem: our trade means only duties. From the awareness of the problems, and only from here, the architect will be able to draw the forms that will adhere to the ways of life of his society. From the awareness of the problems, he will draw the invention of new forms, which they will generate new ways of life. Âť - Franco Albini
CONTRAST
Rooms guard the intimacy of the respective students thanks to the opaque glass: the light penetrates inside the common area and throught the balcony door.
In the bathroom the space has been extremely optimize, obtaining an anteroom and a large shower. Also in this case, light is the protagonist.

SUGGESTIONS
Cabanon (1952) - Umberto Riva
Insinga Home (1989) - Umberto Riva
There’s an expression of a transversal curiosity, attracted by the rigidity of the structures, by the lightness of details, by the plasticity of the form and by the possibility of colors, and also by pure spatiality and revelations of the light, by the craftsmanship of the artifact and a particular vision of living. We are thus projected into a world of color and spatial light, like a canvas able to become plastic and three-dimensional.

Cavallermaggiore, Piedmont - Italy
The project comes from the renovation of the first floor of a 1700 mansion. To preserve the preciousness of the original walls, the distribution of the spaces has been realized through the insertion of raised wooden floors: in this way, additional levels are generated in the individual rooms. Who lives in the house has different positions that allows to have a wider view. The floors are characterized by precise geometric shapes, in line with the style of the furniture on measure near them.
The applied materials define a visual and tactile contrast with the previous internal composition. Part of the labour finishes, such as the pre-existing floor, have been preserved.

The living room’s configuration provides the plot of inclinated and geometric forms. The boiserie originally from the 1700s - has been preserved in order to enhance the contrast between the old and new elements.

ÂŤThe path is the most physical way to learn the knowledge of a space. Even there, it happens that being able to privilege certain cuts, certain openings, certain angles makes the perception of the totality of space take place by paths.Âť - Umberto Riva
GEOMETRY
The bathroom is characterized by net profiles that enhance the space vertically. From the tent on the bottom, there’s an access into the laundry area.
The kitchen has been tailor-made designed. Also in this case the wood is the protagonist. The kitchen has an island with various compartments and a marble top.

FIGURATION

The garden has been designed according to the suggestions of the known italian landscapist Pietro Porcinai - in particular, form his realization at Villa La Terrazza in Florence (195158): this inspiration allowed to realize the pool put besides a tub adorned with water lilies and other aquatic plants. There’s a stylistic coherence among the interior project and the garden; in fact, they are both caratherized by the clean lines, the angles and by spatial configurations. In the project it was also expected a glass greenhouse whose access is from the garage. In the green area there are wooden and marble elements, so as geometric details like in the tiles under the collonade and in the metal shielding panels.

1 The garden entrance consists on the porch of the greenhouse, where there’s the access to the swimming pool, composed by three different levels. Crossing the stone trail, there’s a relax area; here the land it’s in gravel, in contrast to the herbaceous soil right next to it.
2
For the realization of Figuratio’s mock up it has been used some cardboard vegetable panels. The model shows the interior project and the garden. Some furnishings are represented three-dimensional, others have been designed on a sheet transparent adhesive.
The mock up was useful for understanding how effective the project was and how the spaces and the structural elements were related.

Textile factory (1951) - Passanti & Perona
Moncalieri Factory is a building situated at the bottom of the Turin hills, at number 421 of Corso Moncalieri in Turin. The complex was a textile factory until the end of the 1800s, thanks to the strategic position on the riverside, so as to exploit the water to produce hydropower energy.
LOCATION
FELTRINELLI BOOKSHOP keep going up
Turin, Piedmont - Italy
Moncalieri Factory is configured on three floors and a basement. The volume is cubic and is inserted inside a park of ancient trees that guard the old factory. Even if it’s considered a a masterpiece of industrial construction, for many years it has been abandoned without any redevelopment interventions.
The hypothetical client of the project is the italian brand Feltrinelli - founded in 1989. It has been defined a new location - the largest of the city of Turin - in which it was possible to find an optimal subdivision of the products and at the same time a reference place for the most close-knit customers and readers.

INTERACTION
1- Ground floor exhibition 2- First floor exhibition 3- Third floor Cafè 4- Third floor Meeting room 5- Basement exhibition
The structural changes have expected the elimination of part of the flooring of the first, second and third floors. In this way, there’s an interaction between the various heights. The ‘L’ shape of the levels was rotated progressively. Each floor has a relax area dedicated to customers; these spaces are elevated thanks to two steps with a ramp for the access.

«In every good architecture there’s a common denominator, the relationship between space and human scale. In the architecture of the last centuries, it’s not importance who is the author - [...] - it’s always the quality of the spaces through which we move and how the individual relates to them.» - Richard Meier
VERTICALITÀ
The products’ exhibitors have been created using the interweaving of metal frames with wooden shelves. They wrap the pillars, defining a path between the various articles.
2
To exalt the interaction between the floors, there were inserted some ground holes which allow users to be guided towards the climb of the levels.

Kit del Legnamè (2017) - Giacomo Moor
It’s necessary to develop a formula that guarantees the design phase and also the realization at the same time, to offer a handmade product with a drawing process behind it. It’s necessary to know the limits and the possibility of the material you’re dealing with.

The hexagonal scheme provides a repetition of a series of modules with different depth. For the installation of Beeauty, it’s necessary to fix it on the wall using dowels. The LightBox is individually extractable so as to reload the battery.
