100 FREE CHANCES
TO DANCE IN 2018 The Act-Belong-Commit DANCE 100 is a large-scale community dance project spanning more than 100 days and offering beginners, enthusiasts and audiences more than 100 free opportunities to participate in dance. In metropolitan, outer metropolitan, regional and remote localities in Western Australia, Ausdance WA offers children, adults and families a vibrant range of classes, workshops and events. The Act-Belong-Commit DANCE 100 program commences on International Dance Day, Sunday 29 April, and concludes at the end of the year.

Dance Day Date: Sunday 29 April 2018 Time: 3pm-5pm Location: Forrest Place, Perth Dance Day is always a much anticipated highlight on the Western Australian dance calendar. In 2018 the event returns to Forrest Place on International Dance Day as the opening event for Australian Dance Week celebrations in the City of Perth. Australian Dance Week OPEN CLASSES
Date: Monday 30 April – Saturday 5 May 2018 Location: Dance Studios, King Street Arts Centre Ausdance WA celebrates Australian Dance Week annually with a series of events to advocate for dance, engage new audiences, celebrate our diverse sector and provide opportunities for Ausdance WA members to engage with our program. Directly following the Dance Day launch event, we invite everyone to come and try a range of FREE dance classes on offer every morning and evening of the working week, plus some Saturday classes. MORNING A five-day series of morning classes from 9:30am-11am led by five Perth-based contemporary dance pedagogues and practitioners who will be sharing their expertise. EVENING Choose from the array of regular classes held at the King Street Arts Centre dance studios, and commit to a new healthy habit during Australian Dance Week. Ever wished you could twerk, salsa or swing a leg? These Australian Dance Week Open Classes are for you. The classes are free and open to everyone. TRIGGER Date: Saturday 5 May 2018 Time: 5pm - 9pm Location: James Street Amphitheatre, Perth Cultural Centre, Northbridge TRIGGER offers a free public dance event at the Perth Cultural Centre to wrap up Australian Dance Week events for 2018. Essentially an outdoor dance-karaoke jam, TRIGGER lets you nominate the playlist and uses interactive software to project your grooving body live onto the LED screen in a variety of animated forms. Featuring live flash-mob performances from Perth’s urban dance community, we encourage trained and untrained bodies to get up and dance to your favourite tunes under the stars. In 2018, we also invite all those who have attended a free class during Dance Week Open Classes to join in, try out some new moves and celebrate the final event of Australian Dance Week.

LAUNCH YOUR CAREER IN DANCE
This after-school, part-time course is designed for young students intending to pursue dance as a career. Students are taught by WAAPA’s staff over 28 weeks throughout the year. Skills include classical ballet and contemporary technique, choreographic and composition skills, improvisation and duo.

Act-Belong-Commit MONKEYFUNK
This year, Act-Belong-Commit Monkeyfunk workshops will take place in four locations across outer-metro, regional and remote WA, beginning with a series at the Darius Wells Library and Resource Centre in Kwinana. Act-Belong-Commit Monkeyfunk is a workshop series that brings parents and their children together to dance, building confidence and providing ways to be active together in all parts of their lives. The model is flexible and is tailored to suit the individual needs of each community. Facilitated by an experienced dance teacher and live musician, Monkeyfunk offers a series of FREE creative dance classes full of play, curiosity and fun. COUNTRY WEEK Date: 25 – 29 June 2018 Time: 9am to 4pm Location: Dance studios, King Street Arts Centre In association with School Sport WA, Ausdance WA will run a Dance Program for regionally based students travelling to Perth as part of the annual Country Week event. Regional students learn from highly experienced specialist dance artists in a range of challenging dance activities including contemporary technique, choreography and two other cultural dance forms. School teams are assessed on technique, performance ability and teamwork during the final showing. Dance in Country Week is all about learning new skills, having fun and participating in every activity with a positive mindset.

Act-Belong-Commit Try Dance is a week of free dance classes running throughout the state during Mental Health Week WA. A week of morning and evening classes offered in a range of styles at King Street Arts Centre in celebration of Mental Health Week WA. The classes aim to inspire healthy habits and offer a second opportunity in the year to encourage and increase participation in a new physical and social activity.
