As part of our ongoing commitment to high quality dance education and professional learning opportunities, Ausdance WA presents the annual Dance Teachers’ Practical Training Supplement (DTPTS) workshop, developed by James Berlyn in collaboration with Ausdance WA. This five-day workshop provides experienced and aspiring teachers with the practical skills and strategies necessary to successfully teach dance in community, recreational and social setting, studios and schools. The DTPTS is designed for professional dance teachers of any style or level of experience. Topics include safe dance, anatomy, teaching styles and strategies, learner styles, ethical and legal requirements, class management and team teaching tasks. The program was originally designed as a practical supplement to an online Dance Teachers’ Skill Set (still in development, Ausdance Victoria), but it serves purely as intensive professional development training. Participants will be expected to submit a video or upload footage (20-30mins) and a brief class plan no less than four weeks prior to the workshop (9 June 2017). The video must contain evidence of the participant teaching, and may be discussed/reviewed during the workshop for learning purposes. Upon completion of the DTPTS workshop, participants may submit a second video and class plan for further feedback and support if desired. *Ausdance WA will provide support for filming/uploading video submissions if needed.

TEACHER PROFESSIONAL LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES REGIONAL TEACHERS SUPPORT - DANCE IN COUNTRY WEEK

Monday 26 - Friday 30 June 2017

Venue: King Street Arts Centre, Perth Cost: Free for teachers attending Dance in Country Week with students Dance in Country Week is an opportunity for professional learning for dance teachers based in regional Western Australia. Teachers accompanying groups to Dance in Country week can participate in the program, which includes warm up and technique classes, workshops in contemporary technique, choreography and two cultural dance forms presented by professional dance artists and teachers. In addition, specific professional learning sessions are scheduled for teachers.

Country Week Dance is the only practical professional learning I get in my subject area as it is too difficult to get released from school … I have learned a great deal from watching the ballet and choreography workshops over the past few years – enough to make me feel confident to transfer many of the skills/activities to my own lessons. It has been a pleasure and a privilege to view these sessions and watch the tutors in action.”

Regional Teachers Support is presented as part of Dance in Country Week, supported by Act Belong Commit for Healthway and School Sport WA.
