SCORA Standing Committee on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights including HIV and AIDS is a gathering of passionate individuals who are committed to promote sexual and reproductive health and rights and are arduous about creating positive change in their local communities.

SCORA’S NATIONAL PROJECTS

Anti-Female Genital Mutilation (Anti-FGM):

Adolescence Health:

We aim to decrease the prevalence of FGM by raising the public awareness, putting a spotlight on FGM in mass media, increasing the rates of reporting of the crime and graduating a generation of doctors against the medicalization of FGM.

We aim to debunk adolescencerelated misconceptions about puberty, reduce the number of bulimic and anorexic adolescents, as well as reduce the number of adolescents suffering from depression, anxiety disorders, bullying, and, consequently, suicide.

SCORA EXCHANGE The content of these activities meets at least three of the SCORA focus areas. In order to promote a better integration of the participants, there will also be social programs at least four days a week.

FAMILY PLANNING

World AIDS Campaign (WAC):

As medical students and future health leaders, family planning should be taken seriously in order to overcome a massive undetectable problem as the birth rates should be massively reduced in Egypt to raise the standard of living of the population overall.

We aim to inform our national strategy with new interventions for addressing stigma and discrimination. We aim to fight the stigma against people living with HIV/AIDS & empowering medical students to end stigma & discrimination.

We believe in everybody’s responsibility as well as the ability to contribute to creating this world, as human rights can only exist when it applies to all humans.

Together Against Stigma

The project’s main aim is to eliminate the stigma against refugees in our society. This is done through awareness and promotional campaigns raising awareness about who are refugees and what their legal rights are in our country.

We do not only implement psychological support visits for those minority groups, but we also capacitate medical students with the knowledge needed when tackling such minorities as patients.

SCORP’S LOCAL PROJECTS

Violence against Doctors

SCOPH

The Standing Committee on Public Health (SCOPH) brings together medical students from all over the world to learn, build skills, cooperate, explore and share ideas when it comes to addressing all issues related to public health, including global health issues, health policies, health promotion and education, activities.

SCOPH’S NATIONAL PROJECTS

NCD’s

MENTAL HEALTH (WITH SCOPH)

Every 14th of November, 4th of February, 31st of May and 30th of September, IFMSA Egypt celebrates the World Diabetes Day, World Cancer Day, World No Tobacco Day and World Heart Day respectively in order to raise awareness of the issues, increase research in the field of NCDs, mobilize the public and set policies and recommendations for stakeholders to combat NCDs.

Stigma is a common and a significant inhibitor in progressing rights for those with mental illness and requires addressing. Stigma can also lead to acceptance of maltreatment, abuse, and other unacceptable practices within health services. Stigma can make the process of therapy more difficult for mentally handicapped patients and prevent them from being healthy productive individuals capable of re-joining society.

COVID-19 RESPONSES

SCOME Medical Education should be a concern of every medical student as it shapes not only the quality of future doctors but also the quality of healthcare. The International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations (IFMSA) has a dedicated organ which aims to implement an optimal learning environment for all medical students around the world the Standing Committee On Medical Education (SCOME). Through all our joint efforts we work to create sustainable changes around the world, for ourselves as medical students, for the generations to come and for our future patients and our communities who are in fact the final beneficiaries of our education.

SCOME’S NATIONAL PROJECTS

FIRST AID FOR ALL

EVIDENCE BASED MEDICINE

In this project, we will not only address how to deal with the different injuries, wounds, cuts, burns, accidents, etc. But we will also address the ways and techniques of prevention.

This project aims at integrating individual clinical expertise with the best available external clinical evidence from systemic research and patient values to determine the appropriate treatment plan.

Towards Better Medical Education In this project, we propose ideas and plans to empower the Egyptian medical students to be an active participant in the education development process. This way, we can achieve the utmost goal of the medical education process.

SCOPE The Professional Exchange program is a full educational program offering clerkships to medical students abroad. Since the very beginning, in 1951, it was evident that exchange of medical students would be one of the main fields of action in IFMSA. As early as 1952, a total of 463 students spent a period of practice abroad, and today, it continues to be the backbone of the Federation and constitutes its longest running project. Annually, around 13.000 students from more than 90 countries travel around the world to discover new health systems, new cultures and to enhance their global health and intercultural understanding.

SCORE Unfortunately, many medical students do not have the opportunity to experience research while in medical school. Research is essential for the development of medicine and without it, the medical field could never have reached the stage it is at now with innovative methods of diagnosis and treatments. Put together the experience of improving research skills with an unforgettable cultural learning opportunity and you have the Standing Committee on Research Exchange (SCORE)!
