Dear IFMSA Egypt family and SCOPHeroes all over Egypt,
Over two years ago, 19 year old Samira was recording a video for an LC activity about COVID 19 encouraging people to adhere to personal protective measures at a time when everybody was frustrated with the pandemic Never would I have imagined the amount of experience I would gain and the skills I would learn by being part of this organization even in a short period of time Fast forward to today, and with great pleasure, I, Samira Yasser, a soon to be fifth year medical student at Ain Shams University, present my candidature to be your NPO for the term 2022 2023. My passion for public health started after I entered medical school, seeing people around me in Demerdash Hospital struggling to receive medical care while being unaware of ways to prevent all of this from actually happening
There is a way to alleviate so much suffering, through disease prevention and health awareness In SCOPH, I found a community of people who are just as passionate about public health as I am and not just that, but they constantly make an effort to learn more about it, teach others, and take this passion to great places! SCOPH has become a safe space for me to increase my soft skills, while learning about public health, in order to be a well rounded future doctor Becoming an NPO to me means playing an important role in spreading the culture of public health amongst medical students in Egypt, increasing their capabilities in terms of being advocates for public health, even as future physicians and not just as future public health practitioners I'd like to constantly remind myself and others why we ' re doing what we ' re doing, and help people achieve true impact with their work, by encouraging activities' quality over quantity. I am excited to give back to SCOPH and to members, and lead our efforts in the committee for the upcoming year Leadership is a responsibility, but it's also a huge privilege, to mobilize people towards a certain vision and to see the effect of your work becoming amplified by encouraging members from all over our country whom all have so much to give to SCOPH and to their own communities Sincerely, Samira Yasser Abouzeid
