‘Konknni Motim’ (Gem) ‘Moti Kumar’ goes down the Pacific Ocean
apinchofsalt–
AtrueKonkani
activist who was born and bred in a tiny village called Kinnigoli in Dakshina Kannada District in Karnataka State in India, has finally departed the world from across the seven seas. His life was decorative and filled with divinity. Every moment of the day, he sang the praisestothesaviorJesusChristand during his heydays he relentlessly worked for the betterment of his mother language Konkani. Many called him then as a ‘Konknni Motim’(theKonkani’sGemorJewel) that strived for the rights and pride ofalanguage of theminorities. Alphonse Francis Mathias was
writing under the pen name, Moti Kumar Kinnigoli’ but his objective was not self-effacing. He used to encourage insignificant writers like me to write in their mother language and I was the one who overshot him. Under him I grew up like a banian tree but at the end of the day, my allegiance to him was total and I paid my condolences to his wife Rebecca and children Jane and Anthon. I wish to dedicate this article to hiseternalmemory.
Alphonse was born on March 23, 1951, in a small village called Bithul
in Kinnigoli town. His was a prominent household known for devotion, diligence, and decorum. The pillar of the house, Salvadore Mathias, Moti the senior was not only a Gurkar or Head of the local community but an influential figure at the parish. Many knew he had proximity to the then parish priest Rev Fr L V M Fernades, himself a devotedandnoblepriest.
Being the eldest, Moti Junior grew up in the shadow of his father. He had two siblings younger to himJuliet (now a Carmalita nun Sr Juliet now living in a convent in Udupi district.) and Richard, the last
brother who is settled in the same ancestral home. It was my habit to accompany Moti every day after he got free from his duty at Concetta Hospital and to discuss about the futureofKonkaniwhilehavingacup of tea and eating vada sambar, his favorite. His mother Carmine
D’Souza hailed from a well-known household in Paladka near Moodbidri. After completing the initial primary education at the parish school (St Mary’sHigherPrimaryschool)Alphi went on to complete his SSC and Undergraduate studies at the famous Pompeii High School and Junior College. Once done, he joined KMC Hospital in Manipal to be trained as a pathologist in their Clinical Laboratory. Few years he worked at Father Muller Hospital andthenatthebehestoftheparish priest Fr Fernandes (It was perhaps due the influence of his father) he
was employed at the parish owned Concetta Hospital.
Inthosedays, onlytwo peoplewere known to the public in the hospital,
one was Dr Jossie Pereira who was themedical superintendentandthe new pathologist Alphonse Mathias. He was very shy and always at the service of the poor and the needy. No one would have seen him hurting anyone. He used to call everyone,‘Ba.’
Kinnigoli parish was known for giving patronage to many Konkani singers, drama writers, poets and others. There was a Konkani drama played on parish grounds every week (especially during the month ofMaywhichwascalled‘amonthof Rosary) Moti Kumar had known
many Konkani stalwarts like Cha. Fra.Da Costa (ChaFra’s paternal
Uncle stayed opposite the church), Wilfy Rebimbus, Benna Ruzai, Luvi Netto,Dolla,CGSTaccodeandmany talented deacons who came on annual visit to the parish. They organized Konkaniprograms. Inthe absence of bus transport or private vehicles, people used to come and go walking from the eight nearby parishes.
Moti Kumar was like ‘God father’ to them who arranged all facilities under the auspices of the then
popular Welfare Society. “He used todistributemyallthreemagazines, Mithr the weekly, Jhelo the fortnightly, and Kannik the monthly across the parish….” - reminds the then editor of three Konkani magazines, Dr Austin D’Souza Prabhu who was a good friend of MotiKumar.
This was the time when Ujwal Prakashan and the short story collection book, Jeevan Swapna’ came into being in the parish. Few Konkaniwritersundermyeditorship like Moti Kumar, Valerian D’Souza (Ravi) and our friends and the students at Vijaya College Mulky contributed a story each to the book. They were Michael Coutinho, his sister Juliana (now a Bethany nun), Christine Pais and Jerry John Crasta.EvenourseniorslikeValerian R Sequeira (Who passed away recently due to heart attack), Denis Mathias and Elias Crasta were kind enough to contribute a story each to the book. We collectively decided that the book would be dedicated to the parish priest Fr Fernandes and Assistant Parish Priest Xavier Pinto (who retired
recently after serving St Antonys Shrine in Kerekatte) The parish priest due to the pursuance of Moti Kumar handed Rs 500 as a mark of appreciationwhichwas handsome sumthen.
When Cha. Fra Da’Costa came to know about our plan, he sent his
assistant to ask us why the book cannot be printed in the Prime Press. Hence the book was printed there and was acclaimed as the first Konkani book by the Konkani writers affiliated to the parish. The well-known litterateur Cha. Fra. Da’Costa wrote the foreword to the book.
An unpleasant event followed then that shook the conscience of Moti Kumar. His friend, Austin Prabhu wassuedbyFrStanleyPereiraatthe Bandra, Bombay court for publishing a nasty ‘letter to the editor.’ It was a silly mistake which the editor had overseen. As the editorwasinfinancial difficulties, to help him out the writers of the parish decided to publish another book,a‘specialissueofJhelo’under the editorship of Moti Kumar. Everything was fine until it was revealed that one of the short stories were about a catholic girl who was studying with the boys. Despite personal request by the editor and the author of this article, the principal of the college did not allow to sell the copies in the open market. The great plan backfired
and damaged the self-esteem of Moti Kumar. He left the place and discontinued writing in Konkani. He felt he failed to salvage his friend from financial difficulties. No one has ever seen or read any article from Moti Kumar ever since except for a poem read by his cousin Monica during his funeral at Texas, US.
When I met Moti Kumar in Dubai and asked him why he stopped writing in Konkani, he said it’s pure personal issue. When prodded furtherhe saidhelost faceafterthe two incidents above. “If we don’t forgive someone for such a silly mistake, how can we preach from thepulpittoforgive77timesasper thepreachingsofJesus Christ.”
“Thissocietyhasbeenmisledbythe clergy,” – he said further. Then he added, “Clergy are ruling the community by promoting Jesus Christ as a product and by not walkingthe talk.” Hethendisclosedthathehasjoined UnitedChristianChurchandthathe isservingthepoorandmeekNepali community after learning their language. He said he visits their
camps in and around Sharjah and preaches the word of Jesus Christ. He invited me to attend one of his prayer sessions.
He used to say, “Christ lived for the poor and died for them and we must do the same.” When his son, Rodney died in 2009 and when I called him to offer my condolences, he was not grieving. Rather he said – “Why to mourn the death of mortals, today my son is gone, tomorrow I will go and join the Kingdom of Heaven where there is nopain, agonyorillness.”

celebrate the life of a beloved husband, father, brother, andfriend, Mr. Alphonse Mathias, a genuinely kind-hearted man who exemplified the love of Jesus in everything he did.Hewasaflawedman, butaman whostriveddailytoliveandlovelike
On Sunday, Feb 16th, 2025, Pappa went home to be with the Lord, his journey home and all the details that followed on this day are truly theworksofourheavenlyfather. As we reflect on all the details that unfolded throughout the day, we knew that only God had ordain every circumstance that took place onthissad, yetjoyousday.Likeany other Sunday, our family left home for church. Papa and Mummy were on their usual drive, beginning the day as they always did. But unexpectedly, Papafelt the need to stop and eat something, despite having already had his breakfast and chai. Mummy, always caring andattentive, lovinglyservedhimin that moment, unaware of what was tocome.
As they continued their drive, passing the Renner and Telecom Parkwayintersection, theyentereda quiet neighbourhood with little traffic. Then, without warning, Papa gently dropped his hands to his thighs and lost consciousness, his foot still pressing the accelerator. My sweet mom who has never
needed to drive was left amidst a situation where shehadto help her husband, save them and stop the car.
In her description and from our understanding the car kept driving
and she managed to guide the car away from traffic and homes, steering it onto a grassy area with trees.Shedescribestheentirechaos filled moment as Gods hand of protectionoverthem, itwasnother driving the car that day. The outcome could have looked very differenthoweverweknowthatthe Lord our God is our protector and hadhishandoverthem.Thecarwas parked safely, she turned off the engineandranouttogivehimCPR. 2 Strangers who we believe were sent by God helpedpull Pappaout, called emergency number 911 and helped them. Paramedics arrived shortly to assess Pappa. As we rushedtothescene, theexpectation was obviously exaggerated expecting the worst. My eyes were shocked to see the car sitting in front of a tree as though it was placed there. I had so many questions and emotions to process inthatmomentbutwhatIsawmore than anything wasthe hand of God and his divine protection. The car remained untouched no scratches, nodamage, andnoteven a deployed airbag. We were speechless. BUT GOD! The ambulance transported Papa to
Methodist Richardson, where we learned that he had suffered a cardiacarrest.

From June through September last year, Papa faced multiple hospital admissionsduetoheartandkidney issues. During thistime,we had the privilege of meeting his doctors, who only had kind words to share abouthim.Theyoftenspokeofhow he was their favourite patient always smiling, disciplined in followingeveryhealthprotocol, and bringingasenseofwarmthtoevery visit. But what stood out the most was something that Papa uniquely did was his meticulously organized folders filled with every document and detail his doctors might need. Pappalovedhisfolders;hewasVery organized and Labelled EVERYTHING. We have stickers, notes and signs with his handwritingeverywherearoundthe house. He was always on time and being late was not an option. I am still working hard on this! He was a man of discipline. He religiously dedicated his time to reading the bible and praying every morning even before his feet touched the ground. He found joy in everything he put his hands on, He genuinely loved peopleregardlessofwhotheywere.
HetreatedtheJanitorthesameway he would the CEO of a company. His hugs were everything. In the past few days, I Learnt that he did notlikehandshakesandwouldonly stretchouthisarmsforahug.Papa was a great man of God his love for Jesus was the foundation of his life. He didn’t just speak of faith; he liveditdaily.Throughhiswords, his actions, and his unwavering trust in the Lord, he showed us what it meant to love unconditionally, to serve selflessly, and to forgive wholeheartedly.
WhenPapalivedinDubai, hisheart for ministry and sharing the Gospel of Jesus was unwavering. He dedicated his time to serving the Nepali community, driving an hour after work to gather for church, fellowship, anddiscipleshipwithhis Nepalibrothersandsisters. At the age of 53, he learned a new language Nepali—so he could connectwiththemmoredeeplyand sharetheWordofGodintheirown language. What began as a small gathering of just eight people soon flourished into a thriving church of nearly300members.ThroughGod’s
graceandPapa’sfaithfuldedication, this church went on to plant more churches both in Dubai and Nepal, extendingthereachoftheGospel.
Papa’s passion for evangelism, his heartforpeople, andhisobedience to God’s calling have left a lasting impact—onethatcontinuestobear fruit even today. As my brother Anthony and I reflect on all the wonderfulmemoriesheleftbehind, Hewasthekindoffatherwholedby example, who showed us that true strength is found in gentleness and humility. He was our encourager, and our prayer warrior. He was a man of integrity, always speaking the truth under all circumstances, never wavering, and never compromising nomatterthecost. When he said he was praying for you he meant it, he followed throughanddidnotstopuntilthere wasanoutcome.
Pappahad togo toDialysis3times a week which took a toll on this body, buteventhroughthistimehe found joy and purpose. We learnt thispastweekthathetookthetime during the 4 hours to make phone calls to family, friends and church

Though my heart aches with his absence, I take comfort in knowing thatheisnowinthepresenceofour Heavenly Father, reunited with my brother Rodney, singing praises, dancingandrejoicingintheeternal joyofheavenwithJESUS.
Papa, you have left a mark in our family and community that will never fade. You taught us how to love, how to serve, and most importantly, how to walk in faith with the Lord. Though you are no longer physically here, your legacy will live on in our hearts and in the livesofallthoseyouhavetouched.
I will miss you every day, but I will carry forward your love, your faith, and your kindness—because that is whatyoutaughtmetodo.
I would like to end with Romans 8:28- "And we know that in all things God works for the good of thosewholovehim, whohavebeen calledaccordingtohispurpose" Can’twaittomeetyouinheaven!

During my primary studies, I was greatlyadmiredandinspiredbyAlpi Dattu (Alphonse Mathias/Moti Kumar) for his literary talents. I felt immense pride knowing that someone in my family has possessed such exceptional writing skills. He became a role model to me, and I aspired to be like him, a
poet, an activist in my mother language.
However, it was during my time in Dubai that I truly got to know him. Alpi Dattu was an incredibly compassionate person, always readyto helpwitha warm smile. He never spoke harshly or hurt others; his words were always gentle and
soothing. He frequently visited me at my workplace, and we shared a very special bond. Whenever I neededtotravel, hewould
generously offer to drive me in his
car. On occasions, I also had the opportunity to assist him with his computer or hardware issues. Alpi Dattuwasdeeplyspiritualandhada profound understanding of the Bible. He even shared an audio version of the Konkani Bible on his Facebook page.
Iamcertainthatheisnowineternal bliss with Jesus. Through his intercession, I pray that he may advocateforourneedsandguideus tofollowthe pathof Jesus.

Mangaluru/Mangalore must be aware and proud that Vijayanagara dynasty was rooted on this coast precisely here. Our folks and many scholarstooarelittleawarethatthe several palatial structures we see here are the unassuming humble monuments of the 'Guthu' system of representative rule in the many regions instituted by the Vijayanara Emperors and mainly Krishnadevaraya. It exemplifies the traditional Guthu Mane architecture of the Bunt community, who were prominent landowners in the region. These homesweretypicallysituatedatthe center of the family's land holdings and served as a symbol of prestige andsocialstatus.
The architectural layout of a Guthu Mane includes several distinctive features: Tudame: A bamboo gate that slides into wooden posts, markingtheentrance. Jaal:Anopen space shaded with dried coconut leaves, providing relief from the sun. KallChapadi:Astonebenchfor
visitors to rest. Kalla Marai: A rockcut container used for washing feet before entering the main house. Mogasale: A sit-out area leading to the main door. Hebbagilu: The grand main door opening into the Angala, a covered courtyard with intricately carvedwalls.
Over time, many Guthu Manes faced challenges due to land reformsandurbanization. However, effortshavebeenmadetopreserve their heritage. For instance, Dr. Pratibha Karanth undertook a restoration project to return the Kodial Guthu House to its former glory, sourcing period-specific materials and preserving traditional architectural elements. Today, the Kodialguthu Center for Art & Culturestandsasatestamenttothis rich heritage, serving as a cultural hubinMangalore.
TheGuthuManecultureoftheWest Coast (Tulu Nadu) and its connection to the Vijayanagara Empire is deeply rooted in the social, economic, andadministrative systems of the region. Here’s what weknow:
Guthu Mane Culture:"Guthu Mane" (ಗ್ಳತ್ ಮನೆ) refers to
the traditionalancestralhouses of dominant families in Tulu Nadu (present-day coastal Karnataka and parts of Kerala). These were landholding families (Guthu families) who controlled vast lands, local administration, and social order. The Guthu houses followed matrilineal (Aliyasantana) inheritance, meaning property passed through the mother’s lineage. The head of the family was called "Guthu Pātra", and assumedthe name DevuShettyandthehouseholdwas centraltovillagegovernance.
Connection with Vijayanagara Empire: During the Vijayanagara period(1336–1646CE), theempire had a significant influence on the
West Coast, including Tulu Nadu. The Guthu Mane system thrived under Vijayanagara rule due to: Military & Administrative Ties Vijayanagara Empire relied on local chieftains (Nayakas) and wealthyfamilies(Guthufamilies)for administration and military support. Some Guthu families acted as local governors or provided soldiers for the Vijayanagara army. The Vijayanagara Empire (1336–1646 CE) was one of the most powerful and prosperous empires in South Indian history. Hereareits vitalaspects:
Foundation & Rulers: Founded in 1336 CE by Harihara I and Bukka I of the Sangama dynasty. Four major dynasties ruled: Sangama, Saluva, Tuluva, and Aravidu. Krishnadevaraya (1509–1529) was its greatest ruler, known for military conquests and culturalachievements.
Capital & Architecture: Capital: Hampi (a UNESCO World Heritage Site today). Built grand temples (e.g., Virupaksha Temple, Vittala Temple) and palaces. Used IndoIslamic and Dravidian architectural styles.
Administration&Military: Centralized administration with provincial governors. Strong military with elephants, cavalry,
archers, and a naval fleet. Used the Amaranayaka system (like feudalism) for land revenue collection.
Economy&Trade:Rich economy due to agriculture, trade, and mining (gold, diamonds). Trade links with Persia, Arabia, China, and Europe (Portuguese influence). Hampi was a major trading center with bustling bazaars.
Society & Culture: Patronized Kannada, Telugu, Sanskrit, and
Tamil literature. Promoted Hindui sm but was tolerant of other religions. Flourishing fine arts, dance, and music (Carnatic music evolved).
Decline: Weakenedafterthe Battle of Talikota (1565), where the Deccan Sultanates defeated Vijayanagara. Capital Hampi was plundered and abandoned. The Aravidu dynasty continued in a weakened stateuntil 1646. Legacy: Its influence remains in South Indian culture, temple architecture, and literature. Hampi is now a famous historical and touristsite.

Several persons were convicted for this act, though there was (and is) still a raging debate on what caused the fire. The sadfact isthat any deathparticularly the tragic ones – is bound to leave a great void in the lives and the hearts of the loved oneswhomtheyhaveleftbehind. What followed this, was however, a carnage beyond comprehension and totally unjustifiable. Apparently (andthisfromeyewitnessaccounts), the then Chief Minister of the State convened a meeting of some highlevel BJP and Government functionariesverylateeveningof27
February. What transpired at this meetinghastwodifferentversionsbut the actions that resulted were blatantly obvious: Muslims all over Gujarat were brutalized, raped, dispossessed of their lands and housesandmurdered.Theintensity of violence for days on was a crime against humanity. Thousands were affected all over Gujarat! Numbers, pale into insignificance, when one recollectsthebrutalityofwhattook place. For weeks and then months, rampaging mobs indulged in some ofthemostdespicableacts.Besides, the law-and-order mechanism had not merely abdicated its responsibility but were also seen activelyinvolvedinthiscarnage. Zakia’s life became intrinsically linkedtothe searchfor justice after the tragic events of 28 February 2002, when a mob attacked the Gulbarg Society, killing 69 people, including her husband. The massacre at Gulbarg Society remains one of the most horrific episodes of the 2002 post-Godhra carnage. A mob of over 15,000 people descended upon the Muslim-majority area, looting homes, setting them ablaze, and
killing at least 69 people, including EhsanJafri.DespiteEhsandesperate attempts to seek police help, no assistance arrived, despite the proximityofpolicestations.
On 21 November2002, the Concerned Citizens’ Tribunal consisting of several eminent citizens and headed by Justice V. Krishna Iyer (a former Judge of the Supreme Court of India), made public a report entitled ‘Crime Against Humanity’, on the Gujarat Carnage. This report was written based on more than 2000 oral and written testimonies, both individuals and collective, from victim-survivors and from independentHumanRightsGroups, Women’sGroups,NGOs,academics and others. The Tribunal, in its findings and recommendations, clearly indicts the Government of Gujaratandholdsthemresponsible fortheunfetteredviolence, murder, arsonandlootingthattookplacein Gujaratthatyear.
ThefindingsoftheCitizens’Tribunal alsocorroboratewiththefindingsof several other fact-findings of
independent and impartial groups. Theseinclude:
• what took place in Gujarat was not merely communal violence or riots; it was a genocide, a carnage, an ethnic cleansing, designed to wipe out, to marginalise an entire community.
• it was well-planned and wellexecuted. It was not a “spontaneous reaction” as some people make it out to be. The preparations must have taken several months. Sometime earlier, a widely circulated Gujarati daily listed several hotels run by the Chilya community which had nonIslamicnames. Duringthecarnage, most of their hotels were razed to the ground. A meticulous census was conducted onthe Muslims and Christians of Gujarat in 1999. The data helped marauding mobs know exactly whom to attack and where.
• itwasmeanttobreakthebackbone of an economy generated/owned byMuslims;itlargelysucceeded.
• the middle-class (including several well-to-do and educated women) were blatantly involved in the
violence; there were very few people who were willing to come out and take a stand to prevent what was happening.
• in some areas, Adivasis and Dalits were used very effectively in the arsonandlootingofMuslimhomes andestablishments.
• it was clearly a State-sponsored genocide. TheCitizens’Tribunalhas indicted in addition to the Chief Minister and politicians, several high-ranking bureaucrats and police officials. The Sangh Parivar was given a free hand to do what they wanted. The police were apparently given clear instructions nottotakeanyaction. Thereisalso evidence to show that some were encouragedtojoinintheviolencewhichtheydid, withruthlessfinesse.
State Ministers and leaders of ‘the Parivar’ were seen leading the mobs. (a couple of them even were in the Police Control room at the time of the violence). (The ‘Tehelka’ sting operation which was made public in October 2007 provides ample evidence to substantiate thesefacts).
In December 2003, the then Chief JusticeofIndiaV.N.Kharepresiding over a Divisional Bench of the Supreme Court criticized the Government of Gujarat saying, “I havenofaithleftintheprosecution andtheGujaratGovernment.Iam notsayingArticle356.You must protect people and punish the guilty.Whatelseisrajdharma? You quitifyoucannotprosecutethe guilty.”In a landmark ruling on 8 February 2012, the Acting Chief Justice of Gujarat Bhaskar Bhattacharya, very emphatically stated, “Gujaratgovernment’s inadequateresponseandinaction (tocontaintheriots)resultedinan anarchicsituationwhichcontinued unabated for days on…the state cannot shirk from its responsibilities”.
Inthecontextofthemanycasesand the fact that several fingers were pointing to the connivance of the Modi Government, the Supreme Court of India appointed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate certain cases, very speciallyacomplaintmadebyZakia Jafri about the murder of her
husband, the former Member of Parliament Ahsan Jafri and several others. It is common knowledge thattheroleevenplayedbytheSIT was highly questionable. There were speculations and plenty of ‘leakages’, of the final SIT Report. Whatever it says and does not say; lapses and manipulations therein; thecomplicityandtheculpabilityof thepowerfulandofvestedinterests, isbeyonddoubt.
The pro-Government responses of others are on expected lines: “2002 was just an aberration in fact a distraction”;“lookattheway,we haveprogressedsince;theroads, theshoppingmalls, theriverfront, the flyovers...in fact all the industrialistswanttocomeonlyto Gujarat”; “didn’t they deserve it, after all, they are but terrorists”; “whyisthesameimportance not beinggiventothemassacreofthe Sikhsin1984andforthatmatter,to theHindupunditsinKashmir?”;“We Muslimsneedtomoveon…” The rationalisations are typical. often gripped by fear…Fear seems to rule the roost... the truth is, a sizeablesectionofthepopulationis terribly afraid of the plain truth. Besides, many suffer from selective amnesia! Onepersonwhofoughtrelentlessly these past many years was Zakia Jafri. She was the voice of many of thevictim-survivors.However,on24 June 2022, the Supreme Court dismissed her plea. Zakiaben had movedaSpecialLeavePetition(SLP) before the Supreme Court of India demanding a thorough probe into the larger conspiracy behind the violence. The SLP, where CJP secretary Teesta Setalvad was the second petitioner, showcased investigative lapses as well as complicityofpeopleinpoweratthe time in allowing the violence to continue unabated. The judgement dismissing her plea rocked the conscience of the nation. The court observed that, “As a matteroffact, allthoseinvolvedin suchabuseofprocess, needtobein the dockand proceeded with in accordance with law. “Not surprisingly therefore the above extract was also quoted in a complaint filed on behalf of the

I'm not sure I understand, the complexities of this life
I'm not sure I'll ever understand, life beyond the one we live They call it an illusion, is this the best dream man ever had
Why can it not be paradise instead, surely that would be the plan
We're constantly reminded of the power of our minds Why then do we not gather as one, and create a better world
The answer would most probably be, we all don't wish good Returning once more to the beginning, what is the purpose of this plan
I'm not sure I understand, the mirade explanations of life I'm not sure I'll ever understand, why the body decays when"the soul" exits This is one magic trick no illusionist can replicate Apparently we're all in a nightmare, waking up on the other side
The "other side" where from nobody has returned to confirm Reincarnation, of this there are some, but none of the other side
Con artists aplenty, adding to the confusion Feels like a trap, set with little treats, for the entertainment of the Creator

Today, where most of the National TVChannelsarefilledwithTVserials where villainous women scheme and plot against their own family members, where men are shown as mere pawns, main leads take turns to lose their memory, everyone competing against each other as to who can cry the most and the loudest, it comes a major relief and surprise watching our own Mangalorean Konkani sitcom Mrs. Meenaandfamily. Making a comedy serial is an
unnerving task for any TV producer asmakingpeoplelaughwithcorrect timingcouldbethehardestjoband sometimes, it could easily lead to a controversy.
However, the 2 seasons of the show ‘Mrs. Meena and family’ produced by James Mendonca and Dr. Frank Fernandes will not only tickle your funnybonebutwillalsoforceyouto pondersociallyrelevant issues. The sitcom based on family values depicts the story of a Mangalorean Catholicfamily consistsof Mrs.

The TV show had other important characters like Babuti (Dennu’s only best friend), Preemal (the neighbor), PG (their paying guest) and Priya (married daughter of Meena bai) and many guest appearances as well. Each episodehasaplotbasedoncurrent affairsandsocial issues. Well-known Konkani writer and Mangaluru based journalist Stany Bela directed the serial who also wrote the story, handled the script andscreenplayofthe serial.
The first season package of 50 episodes and the second season package of 25 episodes were ultraamazing with some everlasting episodes like Dennu finding his real mom, his son Mario looking for job in Gulf which was a promotional episode for MTG season 2, Dennu trying to be MC, Controversy on Dennu’s poem, Hindi speaking neighbor, watercrisisepisode etc.
Actors like Rita Fernandes, who played the leading role of Mrs. Meena, didafabulousjobofplaying an ideal grandmother while the comic timing of Babuti played by
