AUGUST 2022 Greetings Lions

My first month being the Governor has been most enjoyable. I would like to give a shot out to PID Bob and Lion Brenda Block for all their demanding work and dedication to the Lions over the last 3 years. Thank you for all you did, District 1A missed you. In the month of July, I was invited to Chicago Uptown where I installed board members, I attended the Oak Lawn Lions Picnic at the Kirrar’s house, for great food and comradery and I was honored to install their board members. Then a great visit with Tinley Park where I installed board members and a new

lion, I was very lucky to win a raffle basket. Onto Palos Lions where I installed their board members, and I won the centerpiece. Then to my neighbors Chicago Ridge Lions where I installed a new member and the tail twister, we had the honor of having the Chicago Ridge Police Chief speak about safety to the lions’ members. Moving way up north to the Fil USA Picnic where Lion Bonnie and I enjoyed the wonderful food that was provided, and we installed board members and yes SIX new members. Lion Bonnie has never been that far North. I had my first Cabinet Meeting on July 30. I am enjoying meeting new lions and seeing old friends. I had a zoom meeting with my Council of Governors to help us prepare to effectively lead our districts.

As I am writing this newsletter my older brother Bruce Zartler has submitted his application to the Worth Lions. You never know if you don’t ask! I am looking at reports on LCI and our membership is up at this time, but our clubs have dropped some members. As lions we need to continue to increase membership and to continue to retain current members. I am looking forward to seeing everyone on August 6th at the Lions of Illinois Golf Outing. This is a great outing, and you should not miss it. On August 11th we have a Region and Zone Chair Meeting at Papa Joes Pizza in Orland Park. I look forward to seeing the Region and Zone Chairs, we have an educational evening planned. We are looking for a few good lions to become Zone Chairs for Region 1, Region 3, and

Region 6, if you think that you are interested, please contact me or your Region Chair. This is a rewarding position where you are going to club meetings and helping them become more effective lions. You will be helping promote lionism in you Zone and Region. On August 17th we will be having the district 1A Golf Outing at Silver Lakes Country Club. We are still looking for golfers or lions that just want to come out and have some fun or have lunch with us. Lions Clubs Hole Sponsors are still available. The golf committee has been working diligently on this outing. Come golf and show your support to District 1A. Please contact me if you have any questions. Together We Can Governor Tony

Learn. Lead. Grow. Learning is part of the human experience. It empowers us to improve our thinking, our feeling, our communication, and our service. When Lions and Leos put learning into action, leadership happens. The Leadership Development Team works year-round with Lions and Leos who want to continue growing for the sake of their clubs, their communities, and Lions Clubs International. If that describes you—no matter where you are in your leadership journey—training and development opportunities are available to keep you moving forward. -Lion Robin Kirar PCS District 1-A GAT Leadership Chairperson

GLOBAL ACTION TEAM SERVICE REPORT Hello Lions! Welcome to a new Lions Year! I am proud to announce that Governor Tony Zartler has allowed me to continue as our District’s Global SERVICE Chairperson...thank you Governor. Not only am I District 1-A’s GST, but I was also appointed the Global SERVICE Chairperson for MD-1! I am so excited to be able to work with ALL the Lions of Illinois. Well, we just finished the first month of our new year, and I am happy to report that 11% of our clubs have already reported their service activity in MyLion. Great job! Our first District Service Project for this year is WELCOME HOME, VETERANS! We are working with the Junior Auxiliary of the Marrs Meyer Post 991 American Legion in Worth, Illinois. They are putting together “Welcome Home” kits for our homeless veterans who are being placed into their own homes through the Jesse Brown VA Homeless Program. Let’s “serve” our Veterans by purchasing items needed for the Welcome Home kits (see attached flyer), as they served our Country to give us our Freedom! I am also working on our next District Service Project to begin midAugust….SCHOOL SUPPLY DRIVE FOR FOSTER KIDS! More info to come in the very near future. Keep up the great work Lions!
