JUNE 2022 ==================================================================================================
Where has the time gone? I blinked and I was just elected District Governor and I blinked again, and I am in the last month of my term. It has been a heck of a year. You know why, because I got to work with all of the Lions in District 1-A, doing what we do best, serve our communities.
Let’s recap this Lions year’s accomplishments, which we couldn’t have done without all of your help. 1. Chartered 2 new clubs. 2. Increased membership by 93 members as of this date. Keep your fingers crossed. 3. We are now the 2nd largest District in IL 4. 65 of our clubs have or/are making updates in MyLion 5. 49 of our clubs have made LCIF donations and more are on the way. 6. We have completed 5 District service projects 7. We had a beautiful day for our annual District Golf Outing, which was very successful. 8. We had a fabulous District Convention…..I’m glad Elvis made it. And Thank you for coming.

9. We added a profitable District fundraiser “Run for the Roses” 10. We changed the date for the District bowling a few times, but the event was profitable and we had a lot of fun. 11. We collected over $30,000 in supplies and donations for the victims of the Kentucky Tornado’s. We also may qualify for the following awards: • • •
District Club Excellence Award 23 Clubs have the potential to qualify for a Club Excellence Award Zone & Region Chairperson District Awards
Our work is never done, we have our final District 1-A service project coming up for the year, a baby shower for the Aunt Martha’s organization which is June 4th. And don’t forget Officer Training 6/11/22 It has been a pleasure being the Governor of District 1-A because of all the Lions in this wonderful district. I wish DGE Tony the best of luck, you got this. After all this is District 1-A where the sky is the limit. So, what’s next for me????? I was elected at the MD-1 State Convention in Springfield on May 22, 2022, to the position of Council Chair. I’m excited and scared all at once. But you know what, I’m from District 1-A and we can do anything…… Again, my sincere thanks to each of the Lions of District 1-A for all that they do to help those less fortunate. District 1-A really is the dream team. Lastly, I must thank my wonderful husband Lion Steve for always being there for me. See you around the District and have a great summer!!! Governor Elect Tony, it’s all yours!

Global Membership Approach
We’ve maintained a plus in membership for the entire Lion Year… Thank
you… Thank you… Governor Gail has set our goal of 100 new members to existing clubs, while losing only 80. Plus 20 new members in a new club. We added 219 members to existing Clubs, But we also dropped 162, We added two new clubs surpassing that goal. The result we are at a +92 for the year to date, Thank you to the 39 clubs adding members to their clubs, and congratulations to the 25 clubs showing a positive membership growth. That’s 25 clubs that are eligible for the Club Excellence Award…. The main item stopping clubs 3 District 1A Monthly e-Newsletter
each year from eligibility is not being a plus in membership. We also have another 21 clubs sitting at even, take advantage of the last 30 days of the entry fee waiver. Your club could also achieve the club excellence award too! Join the wave of growth in 1-A… MD 1 is now -136 for the year… North America membership sit at a + 1,480… All areas are a +47,678
Let’s finish strong and add a member in June…
Membership Development & Club Rebuilding: Please join me in welcoming our newest club the Bedford Park LoveSmiles Lions Club… They are a Join Together Club, a specialty club for Childhood Cancer. Watch for the notice for their Charter Night Celebration, sometime this summer. Member Satisfaction: Our main item causing problems with maintaining our membership growth rate are the clubs that have not come back from not meeting as a club. Members will not continue to pay dues forever if they don’t have activities for them to be involved in. The clubs rebuilding and attracting members are meeting and serving their communities. Remember why you joined, to Serve!

The Governor is rounding the corner on her year, and we are doing well as a district. It would be great if all clubs in the District could add some members and help the governor finish strong during the last month of the Lion year. Our 2nd International Vice President Dr. Patti Hill conducted three Virtual Seminars with the current 2nd Vice District Governors. The three webinars were: Know Yourself Wednesday, January 19, 2022, SWOT Analysis of Ourselves Know Your District Wednesday, March 9, 2022, Analysis of Service District Projects Know your Foundation Wednesday, May 4, 2022, Review of LCIF I attended the Advanced Lions Leadership Institute (ALLI) on March 26-28, 2022, in Calgary Alberta Canada with two other Lions from MD-1.
