MAY 2022 ==================================================================================================

Can you believe Spring might be here?????? The grass is green, but the temperature is certainly needing to warm up. This month I would like to share

some information regarding the War in Ukraine. Many of you have reached out and asked How can I help? After some investigation I have found some information that maybe helpful to all of you regarding Ukraine. Option #1: Donate to LCIF and ear mark your donation to the refugee fund. LCIF is helping the Lions in the Ukraine and the border countries who are working with the refugees that are entering their countries.

Option #2: PDG Mariusz from Poland and 7 other Lions from Poland, Germany, and Ukraine will be running from Lions Club International’s headquarters to LCICon in Montreal to raise money for Ukraine refugees. This is not the 1st time PDG Mariusz has coordinated something like this. He has done previous runs for different causes and was featured in the Lions Club Magazine. The runners will arrive in Illinois on Thursday, June 16th and come to LCI HQ on Friday June 17th at about 2 p.m. for a sendoff event. Media, Lions and Lions International Staff will listen to PDG Mariusz, and others say a few words during a brief presentation. After, PDG Mariusz will be inviting Lions and staff to

join him and his team on a casual 1 km FUN run in Oakbrook. We (District 1-A) have been invited to join the event, cheer on our runners and even participate in the short fun-run. LCI is currently investigating on how PDG Mariusz is collecting funds, which will go to clubs in Poland who are actively providing aid to refugees in Ukraine. After Illinois, PDG Mariusz and his team will drive to Windsor, Canada and continue with his charitable run, ending in Montreal on June 24, 2022. In total, the runners will log a cumulative distance of 637 miles. Watch for more information regarding this event. Option #3: With the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, Orland Township has partnered with Sts Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox ChurchPalos Park, IL, to continue our ongoing efforts in providing aid abroad to those affected by the Russian invasion of Ukraine. • Items must be NEW, UNOPENED, and

UNEXPIRED. NO CLOTHING, FOOD, OR HYGIENE ITEMS will be accepted. • Monetary donations will be accepted, and checks should be made out to Saints Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Gift cards to purchase supplies are also greatly appreciated. Visit https://orlandtownship.org/ UKRAINE/ for further information and updates. We have had a very good Lions year thus far, but the last 2 months of this Lions year are critical. I again ask the Lions of District 1-A for your help in the following areas. Update MyLion with your clubs’ activities. We currently have 16 clubs who have not entered any data. 1. Retain your members. Talk to the members who have not been attending meetings and find a solution to get them engaged. 2. Continue to look for new members. Remember, the

2 District 1A Monthly e-Newsletter

new member fee is waived until June 30th. 3. Donate to LCIF. Currently 26 clubs have not donated any amount to LCIF. 4. Pay your International and District dues. Currently 5 clubs have not paid their International dues and 3 clubs have not paid their District dues. Failure to pay your dues could result in

Financial suspension. Clubs who are in arrears cannot hold any Lion events. As always, thank you to each and every one of you for all you do.

Greetings District 1A We are all waiting patiently for Spring to arrive. Bonnie and I had a great time at the District 1A Bowling. Thank you, Lion Leilane for doing such a great job on this event. You sure do know how to get all of Lions out having fun. Lion Bonnie and I attended the Chicago Ridge Spring Fling. They had a Easter Bonnet Contest and the Chicago Ridge Lions are very creative. We attended Governors Night for Oak Lawn, Bridgeview, Burbank, and Chicago Ridge. It was well attended. April 23 was the last 2021-2022 Cabinet meeting. We are now gearing up for the new year. I would like to thank Governor Gail for a wonderful year. On to Willow Springs Lions Club Pork Chop Dinner it was delicious as usual, and Bonnie won 2 gift cards. She was excited that they had the wheel and paint stick raffle. April 25 Region 4 had a meeting. A representative from MWRD on rain barrels and the free tree program. Back to Willow Springs for a Membership meeting, we gave information to the attendees on how to recruit new members and to retain our current members. Well, it was a great month being a Lion. Looking forward to seeing you all very soon.

From your Global Action Team Global Membership Team Coordinator News By GMT Coordinator Daniel O’Reilly

Global Membership Approach

We are through Ten months, and we’ve maintained a plus in membership for the entire Lion Year… Governor Gail has set our goal of 100 new members to existing clubs, while losing only 80. Plus 20 new members in a new club. We added 208 members to existing Clubs, But we also dropped 153, We added the new club reaching that goal. 5 District 1A Monthly e-Newsletter

The result we are at a +73 for the year to date, Thank you to the 39 clubs adding members to their clubs, and congratulations to the 23 clubs showing a positive membership growth. That’s 23 clubs that are eligible for the Club Excellence Award…. MD 1 is now -159 for the year… North America membership sit at a + 1088… 7% of that total is because of the work in 1-A…. Thank You…

Membership Development & Club Rebuilding: In December we Chartered our first club for the Year, The KOPE Cyber Lions of District 1-A.

We have two organizations interested in the Join Together Program. The first one is ready to go, waiting on a change at the board meeting… The second one is in the formation stage; Lion Mike and I had an Informational meeting with them before Easter. The Join Together is a special program that was created to grow the capabilities of Lions Clubs International by encouraging other community-based nonprofit organizations to join us on this journey of hope. Every global citizen matters in our mission of service and LCI wants to extend the invitation to these dedicated individuals who would like to work together to make a positive impact in their communities. Member Satisfaction: Our main item causing problems with maintaining our membership growth rate are the clubs that have not come back from not meeting as a club. Members will not continue to pay dues forever if they don’t have activities for them to be involved in. The clubs rebuilding and attracting members are meeting and serving their communities. Remember why you joined, to Serve!
