** Reasons to celebrate CHRISTMAS on December 25 : There are several reasons why Christmas is celebrated on
December 25. The date is 9 months after March 25, a day recognised by Christians as Annunciation. It was the day Mary was told by God theorhug the angel Gabriel that she would be the mother. December 25 also coincides with pagan winter solstice celebrations like Saturnalia and Dies Natalis Solis invicti. Since theywerehistoricallymarkedatthat time of year and there existed beliefs.
* The English term ‘Christmas’ translates to “mass on Christ’s day“. As per Christian beliefs, Jesus Christ istheSonofGodwhocameintothis world for the betterment of mankind. In 221AD , Christian traveller and historian, Sextus Julius Africanus revealed to the world that Christ came into this world on 25th Decemberandsincethen,Christians have been celebrating the occasion. Another reason for celebrating
Christmas on 25 December is that this day coincides with a popular Roman holiday, birthday of god Mithra – the Pagan Sun. Numerous Christianwritersandhistorianshave reflected a connection between the birth of the sun and the son (Christ) whichledtotheoriginofChristmas. Also, many Christian and nonChristian communities around the globe celebrate Christmas as the beginning of New Year festivities and an occasion to meet and greet their families.
A Merry CHRISTMAS & A Bright Happy NEW YEAR 2023... !!!

Christmas is for the Bravehearted!
-*Fr.Cedric PrakashSJthose who live on the peripheries.
Christmas is for the bravehearted: those who see and welcome the ‘strangers’ in their midst, those who have come from a different part of the country, to deal with the cumbersome process of having theirnamesregisteredintheCensus operations. The locals have already taken a stand against the unconstitutional Citizens Amendment Act (CAA) and now make every effort to ensure that no one is excluded from Census; in particular, the poor and the vulnerable, those caught up in and impoverished by the rising costs;
Christmas is for the bravehearted: who create space in their homes for the weary travellers, a bedraggled couple, who have journeyed through many difficulties. He is aged, she is heavily pregnant. They have been knocking from door -todoor for a place for the night; but sadly, in vain. All are very busy preparing for ‘Christmas’: cleaning, decorating, and illuminating their homes, making sweets, rushing to the tailors for their new clothes, to the mall to buy the last-minute expensivegifts.Onetramphowever, who points to the possibility of some place far away outside the town
Christmasisforthebravehearted:as the couple makes their way to the periphery, they find a stable. The caretakerisfullyinebriated, butthat does not deter his goodness. He unlocks the stable so that the exhausted couple are able to sit in
the warmth and comfort of the hay. He shares his evening meal and his water with them. Finds some swaddling clothes because he understands that there will soon be a new arrival. The animals who are inside know that they will soon be part of a defining moment of history. The stench and squalor of the stable give way to sweet fragrance and goodness. This moment is not meant for the heartless!
peace which is vibrant, which is inclusive and transcends the pettiness of our world today!
Christmas is for the bravehearted: listeningtotheangelssing“Gloryto God in the highest; and on earth peace to men of good will!” The angels are in unison and their song is harmonious! Their message is unequivocal:thegloryofGodwhich complements the need for and importance of peace and goodwill for all men and women. This is easier said than done! In a world which is divided and fragmented, where hate speech and violence gain legitimacy, where ‘the other’ is denigrated and demonized with ease – what one yearns for is for a
Christmas is for the bravehearted: the shepherds who listen to, internalise, andactualisethesongof the angels. They were ordinary, rugged folk who lived on the hillside. When they hear the “good news” of the birth of the Saviour by the angels, they leave their sheep behind and go in haste to worship the new-born! They are joyously spontaneous in their response. There is no pretence or shallowness intheirdeed!Thereisclarityintheir goal, and they reach their destination! One is reminded of our protesting farmers who in spite of great difficulties courageously succeededinhavingtheanti-farmer laws revoked, sometime ago!
Christmas is for the bravehearted: the Magi are wise people, who physically lived in a distant land. Though they were rich, they had a singular mission in life: a relentless search for the truth and for the
Messiah, who would be that truth. They go all out of their way to find him and give him their best! The Magi find solace and spiritual fulfilment when they encounter Jesus. They realise that having found the truth they have to take a stand for justice. They return by ‘another way’ demonstrating the unflinchingcouragenottosuccumb to the manipulative and murderous mechanisms of Herod. They take a stand for the minorities, the excluded and the exploited, for all victims of injustice! They remind us of Fr Stan Swamy, the others incarcerated in the BhimaKoregaon conspiracy case, and the many bravehearts, illegally imprisoned because they took a stand for human rights, justice, and peace!
Christmas is for the bravehearted: like the people of Egypt. A refugee couple with a little babe, arrive in theirmidst, withpractically nothing! The trio has had an arduous and longjourneythroughhostileterrain. They were forced to flee from their
native land because of the vengeful plot by a tyrant. Theywere refugees – but the Egyptians treated them as their own: warmly welcoming them into a society which would ensure their protection and security. Millions of migrants and refugees today, the‘nowherepeople’,victims of war and persecution desperately seek refuge in a foreign land. Some bravehearts do welcome them!
Christmas is for the bravehearted: and of course, there is Joseph! He is thefoster-fatherofJesushasalways been referred to as a ‘just man’. He dreams and lives the impossible dream believing in dignity, equity, and the rights of all! From the moment Mary was betrothed to him, Joseph was confronted with a host of sensitive issues. He had to make very difficult decisions; every decision of his would impact on Mary or Jesus or on them, in a profound way. He did so with a great sense of prudence and responsibility and after much discernment. The Biblical ‘righteousness’(justice)was his forte;
he was imbued with a tremendous sense of justice
Christmas is for the bravehearted: so beautifully epitomised by Mary. SheischosenbyGodasthemother of Jesus. It is certainly not easy for her to accept this heavy responsibility. After due discernment, she willingly and courageously accepts God’s will. Her ‘yes’ is unconditional! She then goes in haste to be with her kinswomanElizabeth;inheroldage, Elizabeth has conceived and will soon become the mother of John the Baptist. As she embraces Elizabeth, Mary sings the ‘Magnificat’- a prophetic and courageous song for change!
During the birth of Jesusand till the very end of her life on earth, Mary radiates this braveheartedness
Christmas is for the bravehearted: forthosewhorecogniseJesusinthe Crib, as the saviour of the world! Christmas is for the strong who can honestly sift through the material and mundane of the world, which has relegated Christmas to Santa Clauses and Christmas trees, to eating, drinking, and dancing, to new clothes and expensive gifts, to decorations and illuminations, to splurging and merry making. Christmas is for the bravehearted who understand that the birth of Jesus is about enabling and ensuring truth, justice, liberty, equality, fraternity, inclusiveness, joy, love, peace in our broken world today. Christmas is indeed for the braveheartedwhohavethecourage to put Christ back into Christmas!

Approximately 115 plus attendees relished the opportunity to meet inperson with friends and families.
As attendees arrived, the registration team of MCA Treasurer Nicole Racadag and MCA Committee Member Nirmala Pinto handed out gift bags containing beautifullydesignedmementosand personalized Christmas cards to each family. The banquet hall cateredsumptuousappetizerswhile drinks such as wine and beer were served to the attendees throughout
the night.
There were a lot of surprises and twists in the program this year. The event started with children’s games that Reynel Castelino, Elvina Moras, Julia Dante and Merlyn Mathias conducted excellently, the theme was based on ‘Santa Says’ that all the children enjoyed.
Forthe first time, we had the superduo young MCs who rocked the stage and the floor and kept the audience engaged. Both stepped in to assist as we were searching for new talent, and we got them.
Esthar Smitha and Nalini Pinto clearly took over the program right from the start and finished it off excellently. They kept the program lively and progressed smoothly.
MCA President V James Dante spoke about the notable
achievements of the committee such as obtaining the non-profit status for the association which had remained as a dream for many years. The President acknowledged his team at the event, especially since this was the last event of the committee’s term and recognized by giving away the Recognition Plaquestoeachcommitteemember appreciating their contribution and support. We did miss our dynamic VP, Clint Almeida, who had worked with us to put the theme together but could not make it to the event due to some prior commitments. The President too received a plaque from Juliet Vaz, a popular past President. At this time, Juliet Vaz spoke about upcoming elections and motivated everybody to step up and form a new energetic committee full of ideas and lively concepts to attract a bigger crowd for our future events. The next surprise was our dancing Santa with his Elf. This year, Santa was very energetic, interactive with the kids and parents, gave away the
gifts, took pictures with families, sang with everyone, and finally showed us some hifi dance moves. Special acknowledgement of Clement and Malin Noronha for their help with conducting the program.
The highlight of the program was the ‘Mr and Mrs Gatsby’ contest. There were three judges who judged the couples based on their Gatsby style costumes, their ramp walks and the answers to their questions to score the winning couple.Therewouldhavebeenover twenty couples who participated in the contest and the couple with the highestoverallscorewontheaward. Renita and Walter Biswas bagged the award.
Asthenightprogressedwithalotof partying and dancing while enjoying the appetizers and drinks, secret judges were scoring for the BestDressedMaleandBestDressed Female from the crowd. Two male judges judged the Best Dressed Female, and two female judges judged the Best Dressed Male. The
Best Dressed Female award went to RosettaBorkarandtheBestDressed Male award to Wilson Mathias. There were many spots game conducted by the MCs. ‘Ultra Beats’ music group, a local town favorite, kept the crowd on their toes with their mix of 1920 Gatsby and contemporary tracks. Dinner preceded with a video Christmas message received from His Eminence Oswald D’Souza of Diocese of Bombay for Mangalorean Catholics in the DC area. Following that, Fr. Chris Arockiaraj (Christy), of Theological College and the teaching faculty at The Catholic University of America gave his personal Christmas message to the audience and blessed the food before meals. Dinner was a lavish spread of delicious vegetarian, nonvegetarian items, and desserts. The dancing continued throughout the night at its peak, and it was combined with Raffle draws with bells to notify the raffle time, which worked out excellently. Julia Dante and Merlyn Mathias conducted the
The raffle round excellently, entertained the crowd with their quick wits and gave away the prizes throughout the night. It was proof thattheGatsbythemewasverywell received and executed at the Christmas event.
There were several sponsors and donors for this Christmas event and apresentationwasdisplayedonthe TV with the sponsors’ names and their businesses. We want to thank them for their contribution to making this event possible.

And so, it was predicted in the Holy Books of old A child like no other will be born to save this world and all her people So many longed for that day to see, but many did not survive
Yet one man was by His Grace blessed, to live to see that day
And so, it was God's Plan unfolds in a small village far from any town
A pious young lady was to be betrothed to a carpenter gentleman But stranger still was the need of the hour to not wait another day For this marriage be solemnised to legalise this birth
Wish that man would learn from God to not judge such a child as disgrace
For in our Saviour, God showed us clearly a child of God is blessed As we celebrate this wondrous birth in a cold and harsh land We try to capture the magic of that moment in cribs around the world
A Child was born to a Virgin girl whom God had long before prepared To be the Mother of His generous gift to His children of the world The Angels rejoiced at the birth of our Saviour King Who's coming heralded a New way of understanding, this World had never seen His young Mother stunned in loving adoration at this gift to humankind That she had been the chosen vessel, still made weak at her knees She had no clue of the pain she was yet to endure, with Her baby boy Who's birth alone had sent a tremor across the lands and nations
Oh, Brave Young Mother how our Hearts tremble in humble anticipation Fore we now know, what you knew not, of the agony of your path The child you nestle close to your heart who's skin so silken smooth
Would be exposed for all to jeer and made to bleed before you
Oh, Holy night surely you weep for the memories of that day
When Our Saviour King who was born to save a nation doomed to hell That we may once more celebrate with our Heavenly Father above Saved by the stripes and the blood Jesus Christ our King
Oh, Holy night with your stars that burn so bright rejoice and hail this day
The day that saved the lives of God's scattered tribes, across the lands and seas

Dear Woman.
Dear woman, buy yourself an attire in black. No, not to cover your flaws but show to the world you’re bolder than any colour
Dear woman, take efforts to put together a little sugar and spice. May your signature dish be the highlight of every meal.
Dear woman, learn to cry without hiding your tears, Tearsneednotbeasignofdespair, butacleanseofwhat'snotneededwithin.
Dear woman, learn to say no without guilt. Like you always say yes to others without thinking.
Dear woman, forget about the hourglass figure. You never know when curves will be in fashion again.
Dear woman, select a person in whose arms you want to crash beforehand. So that you don't have to knock on multiple doors when the need arises.
Dear woman, don’t fuss about the inch of your heels. Eventually your confident stride is what makes you look taller.
Dearwoman,don’talwayssuffocateyourselfwithanunderwiredpush-upbra. Remember those sagging breasts fed the most precious gift of your life. Dear woman, strip yourself naked and learn to look at yourself in the mirror without feeling shy.
Never forget that every part of you was beautifully knit together by the One above.
Dear woman, don’t forget to carry with you some pepper spray. It's not justfor robbers andrapists, but also forthose who judge youwithout reason.
Dear woman, let your hair loose, cut it short or paint it with colours bright. You never know if it suits you unless you try.
Dear woman, break off from that relationship that fails to see your worth. Remember that your little sacrifices will be cherished elsewhere.
Dear woman, have something to do of your own. Not just to be independent but to have a source that you can depend upon when you feel clueless.
Dear woman, learn to bake a cake. Sothatonanybirthdayyoumaynotbedismayedwhennoonearrivesatthe door with one.
Dear woman, don’t shy away from wearing dark red lipstick. Remember it gets better when you finally decide to get bolder. Dear woman, throw away the obsession of perfect skin. Those blemishes and tan make you the real you.

Dear woman, go on a diet if you want to, But don’t forget to indulge yourself once in a while.
Dear woman, make plenty of friends, Some who can make you laugh and some who will smile because of you.
Dear woman, be kind towards the old, your dear ones and your foes, Remember your children are watching you and they will follow you.

Eva Kaili Arrest
byVincent AugustineD'SouzaEva Kaili was arrested in Belgium on 9/12/2022. She is from Greece. She has been a Member of European Parliament since 2014 and was Vice President of European Parliament.
When I first read about her arrest, I thought she was the only Vice PresidentofEuropeanParliamentso a very important person. Usually, a Parliament does not have multiple DeputySpeakers or Vice Presidents. LaterIcametoknowshewasoneof the 14 Vice Presidents of European Parliament and so not that very important.
Belgian police raided 16 homes and arrested four others. They included
Kaili’s partner Franceso Giorgi and Kaili’s father Alexandros. Luca Visentini and Pier Antonio Panzeri weretheothertwo. Itisallegedthat Eva Kaili took bribe from Qatar. Belgian police from 9/12/2022 onwards seized computer data belonging to 10 parliamentary assistants, 6,00,000 euros at one home, 1,000 euros in a suitcase and 1,50,000 euros in an apartment of one MEP.
In the days that followed Roberta Metsola, President of European Parliament, took away Eva Kaili’s powers and assigned them to others. European Parliament removed her as Vice President. Greece froze her assets. Her party PASOK said it was expelling her. Belgian police searched European Parliament offices on 12/12/2022.
The raids and arrests happened when Football World Cup is going on in Qatar. Many were not happy that Qatar became host and about the rules in force in Qatar. Qatar
denied charges of bribery. It claimed it operated in complete compliance with international laws and regulations. The arrests led to pause on vote for granting Qataris visa-free access to Europe.
European politicians take moral high ground and lecture others about corruption. Eva Kaili’s arrest has shown that they are not better than others. Vitor Teixeira of Transparency International said the European Parliament has sub-par integrity and anti-fraud rules. He said he would not be surprised if more people are involved.
