JUNIOR NATIONAL FINALS RODEO 2023

QUALIFIERS QUALIFIERS

The dedication and resilience shown not only by the competitors but their parents is commended. Dedication was demonstrated when a family travelled 33,000kms to qualify their son to the finals, Queensland families travelled to Victoria and vice versa. Every competitor is deserving of high praises especially Pro Tour Champions: Matty Ahern, Emi Carlson, Jayden Kenny, Layney Deguara & Cade Ferguson.

JUNIOR AUSTRALIAN CHAMPIONS

Nash Jones was crowned the Junior Steer Riding Champion after winning 2 rounds and the average. Nash only recently back from shoulder surgery and already back on top of the leaderboard. Tyler Kenny does not often get the lime light from his younger brother but he proved victorious after a tight fight coming into the final round of breakaway, he is the newly crowned Junior Team Roping Heeling Champion and the Junior Breakaway Champion. Emi Carlson had her work cut out for her after 3 rounds of intense competition, Emi was the only one to place in all 3 rounds and the average making her the Junior Barrel Racing champion. Jimmy McClelland was a last minute edition to the National Finals after another contestant sustained an injury but he rose to the occasion winning 2 rounds and the average to become the Junior Bull Riding Champion. Jackson Dixson walked away with not only the Junior Team Roping Header Championship but also the Junior All Around Champion after consistently placing in the 5 events he qualified for.

Charters Towers Charters Towers

Firstly, a huge congratulation to our recently crown Australian Junior Champions Emi Carlson, Tyler Kenny, Jimmy McClelland, Nash Jones and Jaxson Dixon – you are our shining stars for the next 12 months! Secondly, CONGRATULATIONS to all qualifying competitors!! All reports out of Emerald were that it was one of the most competitive Junior finals that has been seen for many of years. The bull riding was hot with a high number of qualified rides, which is a credit not just to the competitors but also to the stock contractors involved. It was an extremely close race in the barrel racing with all girl’s worthy of a mention, but for me the highlight was the underdog in young Ruby Bell, who only turned 13 during the finals, giving the oldest competitors a run for their money Then there was our youngest cowboy to qualify in the Team Roping at the NFR in Mason Iker, just 8 years of age – these pair sure have made everyone sit up and take notice of our next generation of younger kids at the starting blocks. How exciting is the future of rodeo looking with this calibre of kids coming along.

CATCH-UP

Circuits

From July 2023 APRA will recommence promotion of our Circuits and circuit standings Whilst some of the Circuits have still been operational for the past couple of years, things have been a little dormant since Covid We have “refreshed” our procedures with the hope to revamp and promote awareness of our circuits and encourage members to become more actively involved in their circuit’s committees These new procedures will include:

Promotion of Circuit committees and their operations including oPosting circuit committee office bearers and contacts on the APRA website

Posting of AGM minutes of each circuit on the APRA website

Advertising of circuit meetings and AGM’s via website, social media & APRA news

Posting of circuit standing on the website and in the APRA news bi-monthly

Promoting Circuit run events, such as clinics, schools, presentation evenings etc on APRA website and social media.

Promotion of any standout rodeos/affiliates or competitors within a circuit that the committee wish to acknowledge.

Circuits have been advised that the Executive Board welcomes circuit committees to apply to the APRA for “development funding” to be spent within their circuit. Circuit committees can make application to the board for additional funding to run events such as clinics, schools, animal welfare clinics and information evenings for rodeo committees etc, all for the betterment of the Association and the sport within their circuit. This is a new initiative from the Executive and the APRA.

MembershipRenewalandFines

Just a friendly reminder for all juniors to renew their membership before the northern run commences if you areplanningonheadingthatway

Renewalpriortorodeoentrydaysmakesbothyourentry processeasierandtheofficesjobeasier.

There are a large number of competitors with outstanding fines It has come to my attention that things may have been a little relaxed over the past twelve months with regards to fines payment and competitors being allowed to enter rodeo whilst they have outstanding fines. A line has been drawn in the sand and from now on the office will be clamping down on all outstanding fines and not accepting entries into any rodeo until all dues are paid. This is as stipulated in our APRA By Laws and Competition Rules Statements will be sent out monthly. Statements will show invoice numbers and fine amounts outstanding If you are unsure of what the invoiced fine is for, you will need to contact the office stating the invoice number to obtain a copy–preferablyviaemailatapra@prorodeocomau
