I have previously owned 2 cars before this and the Hyundai Creta is my 3rd car. Because of the road conditions in Nepal are awful as you know it, I preferred an SUV over sedan and chose to go with the Creta. I purchased this car about 2 months ago because I needed to upgrade from a Sedan, plus, the company had a world cup offer of getting a 52-inch flat screen TV on purchase of the vehicle and government was just about to increase the tax. So, I just went ahead and bought the Hyundai Creta then.

Mr. Pankaj Rathi Managing Director, Bagmati Plastic Ind. Pvt. Ltd.

The spare parts for the Creta are easily available and are cheaper compared to other companies. So, all in all, purchasing this car was a good deal as I believe it will have a low cost of ownership as well. The main reason why I bought this car is because of the road condition and traffic in Nepal. Creta has good ground clearance and it seemed fit for me. I find the interiors to be really attractive and I have no complains over it. Plus, the company provided me with special seat covers when I purchased it, which I think is the added bonus. I have driven this car to Pokhara and have had no trouble in the highway or in bad road conditions. The fuel efficiency in this car is also pretty decent which tackles the problem of expensive fuel rate. I even find the passenger seats to be really comfortable and spacious as my driver usually drives me around in the car inside valley. My car is still new so I have not had to need to get it serviced yet but I still keep getting calls from the company now and then asking me how the car is doing. While purchasing this car, I booked it from phone as I was comfortable with the company and I didn’t even go for a test ride because I trusted the company. The company’s salesmen were also very humble and helpful. I would definitely suggest the Creta to my friends and everyone I know as I believe it’s the best car in its segment.

EDITORIAL AUGUST 2018 VOLUME 7 ISSUE 3

H

ello there, Guess what? You may not be aware of it but its August already, meaning there’s less than one month till the biggest automotive event in Nepal for 2018 happens! We’re talking about the NADA Auto Show which is hosted by the Nepal Automobile Dealers Association. It’s an annual event where different companies that’s related to the automotive industry come together in one location and display their products and services. It definitely is an exciting time for us enthusiasts since many companies choose to launch their new products during this event. We’ve compiled a list of products that we think will most likely be launched during the NADA Auto Show and a couple of highlights from last year. Yes, the NADA Auto Show is like the biggest thing for us, but we, of course, haven’t forgotten about what makes Autolife, well, Autolife! This time we bring you the test drive of the grand Mercedes Benz GLC Coupe 220D, which was quite the hair raiser. This stunning beauty is quite the attention seeker; we had so many people asking about the Coupe that a good amount of time went into answering their queries. Although, there’s something that caught even more attention, it’s a two wheeler and it’s built to last. Yup, we’re talking about this issue’s cover, the Cross X 250 R! This pure bred enduro drew in an entire crowd while we tried to do a shoot and for us it felt more like a live demonstration at that time. The 250 R is not something you’d want to miss. The Cross X isn’t the only bike we have test ridden, we also got our hands on TVS’ Apache RTR 200 4V Race Edition 2.0, quite a mouthful isn’t it? Well, you could say that it delivered in the same manner in how it carried itself when we took it out for a spin. We took it to the nook and crannies of the city and we weren’t disappointed. Other than the brilliant vehicles we’ve reviewed, we also had an incredible opportunity to interview two daredevils that journeyed all the way to Nepal from their hometown in Turkey! Travelling for more than 12000km on their CF Moto 650MTs, these two riders inspired us with their passion for motorcycling and travelling. While we’re on the topic of motorcycle touring, we’ve gone on to give you a detailed insight on Motorcycle pants in part five of our Riding Gear Series. Perhaps you may not be aware of this but MG Motors have been acquired by Paramount Motors Pvt. Ltd. and so we converse with Mr. Sachin Aryal, the General Manager at Paramount Motors Pvt. Ltd. who gives us the details to MG Motors’ current position and what direction they’re heading. With the NADA Auto Show approaching, you might be looking to get yourself a spanking new vehicle so we thought we’d include an article that’ll give you details on how to pick the best possible vehicle for you. Finally, how long has it been since you last gave things a thought? Like really took time to think things through? You probably have things of your own to think about but you’ll probably start to after reading “The State of the roads”. We won’t say much about this other than it’s a well put opinion that will have you philosophically questioning the current happenings of our roads. Whew! Plenty going on this time around and it won’t stop with the NADA auto show being just around the corner. We hope you enjoy this issue as much as we take pleasure in bringing it you. Likewise, stay tuned with us for the next issue where we’ll also bring you an exclusive coverage of the ins and outs of the NADA auto show 2018. Happy Reads, Team Autolife

The new A-class slots into Mercedes’ line-up under the C-class sedan, it will become the German carmaker’s most affordable four-door model. Mercedes has confirmed that the A-class sedan will be offered with just two engines initially, although further units are planned once production is ramped up. The engine options at launch were turbocharged 1.3-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine with 163hp and 250Nm and a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder diesel with 116hp and 260Nm. Both come with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard, although, as with the hatchback, a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox with steering wheel-mounted shift paddles is an option. Volkswagen Journey: A Retreat Program

Volkswagen is a popular German brand in the automotive industry and one of the premium auto brands in Nepal. Volkswagen also show their core beliefs in valuing their customers and have organized a Volkswagen retreat program for their customers. The event took place on Saturday, 28th July, 2018 at Hattiban Himalaya Height Resort. The Volkswagen Journey started off early at 7 in the morning. Although the weather didn’t seem to be very cooperative as it was drizzling but it didn’t stop the event from taking place. The ambient mood was upbeat and the customers that arrived were given an early morning snack box to keep their energy up for the ride ahead. Right before the flag off, there was a photo session of everybody and as everyone rallied in their cars the customers were given neat goodies in a gift basket. The journey started with a long line of Volkswagen Polos and a couple of other models that were driven along by the Volkswagen staff as support vehicles. The long line of Volkswagen vehicles definitely made quite a sight for the by standers to see. Also, on the last leg of the short excursion, the uphill climb to the resort was challenging due to the wet weather and the slippery path. However, with the guidance and support from the Volkswagen staff, everyone got past the hurdle and also got an adventure out of it. After everybody had made it to the resort, a cup of tea or coffee was open to all participants to recuperate, plus, there was a brief time to let them stroll around the resort and take photos before continuing the Volkswagen Journey. The event went on with a speech from the C.E.O of Volkswagen Nepal, Mr. Bibek Bijukchhe and to continue the retreat program, Volkswagen Nepal hosted an exciting game of bingo for its customers. The Volkswagen retreat program was then closed off with a filling buffet lunch and a test ride of the Volkswagen Polo 1.0.

LOOK OUT FOR THE NEW 2018

HYUNDAI

CRETA

I

In recent years, Nepalese automotive industry has seen a lot of new vehicles entering the market. From top end performance luxury cars such as the Ford Mustang to the most affordable set of 4 wheels such as the TATA Nano, Nepal has become a platform for all kinds of automobiles. However, in this period of time, one of the cars to conquer the SUV segment in Nepal is Hyundai, the reason being, the fact that Hyundai understands what people desire. Hyundai has been an early bloomer when it comes to SUVs with its original Tucson which was introduced back in 2004. The Tucson has had a huge success and the whole world loved it for what the car had to offer. Later in 2015, the Hyundai Creta was introduced to the world as a compact SUV. The Creta was

20

definitely a stunner and you would be lying to yourself if you would say that you didn’t look at it twice when you saw it on the road. Fast forwarding to 2018, Hyundai has introduced its new facelifted Creta; tweaked to be the best and composed with many features which many cars in its segment have missed. From the larger perspective of design, performance, comfort and handling, to the smallest details such as seats, speedometer and car stereo, Hyundai has made a lot of improvements on the new Creta for 2018. At the front of the new Creta, the chrome grille that we see on the older version has been replaced with Hyundai’s signature cascade grille that makes it look more aligned to its family design. In addition to that, the car is also equipped with bi-focal facebook.com/AutolifeNepal

projector headlamps with DRLs that add a plus point on the premium department. To add cherry on top, the new Hyundai Creta comes in “Passion Orange” and “Marina Blue” which will catch a lot of attention. Comparing this to the old one, the new design cues are the major differentiator over the previous Hyundai Creta. Overall, the dimensions of 2018 Hyundai Creta remains unchanged but the front and rear bumpers get grey skid plates that add more ruggedness to the character of the Creta and give a more SUV resonance.

Play, Android Auto and Mirror link, and comes with in-built navigation. On the fun side, Hyundai now also gives you a fitness tracker with the Creta what they call “H-BAND” that works like a proximity key fob - just in case you don’t want to carry around the bulky key during your fitness routines. The driver’s seat now features six-way electrical adjustment and the height of the Hyundai Creta further adds to give more sense of space inside the cabin. The second-row seats even get enough leg and headroom for a comfortable drive.

This year, Hyundai has hopped on to the bandwagon and thrown in a sunroof in the new Creta. There is no denying the wow factor this new addition brings to the table. It’s the usual electric sunroof with tilt and anti-pinch functions which is nothing extraordinary but the big benefit is that it makes the cabin feel even more airy than it is. What’s also new is the 17 inch alloy wheels which give the car more of a sporty profile than before.

Under the hood, the new Hyundai Creta is being offered in 1.6L petrol, 1.4L diesel and 1.6L diesel engine options. Mechanically, there is not much difference on the Hyundai Creta facelift, the power delivery will be linear and a responsive gearbox as similar to previous ones’. The 1.6L petrol Creta chunks out 121 bhp @6400 RPM, where as its 1.4L diesel cousin chunks out 89 bhp @4000 RPM and 1.6L diesel chunks out 126 bhp @ 4000 RPM.

On the inside, the dashboard of the new Creta is finished in black and grey. The touchscreen infotainment system is located centrally, making it within the reach of the driver and offers a good response to touch. It also supports Apple Car

AUTOLIFE FEATURE

YOUR NEXT SET OF

WHEELS

Let’s admit it- We all love it when a new vehicle joins our family. Everyone from the kids to the grandparents are inquisitive about the fancy knobs, chrome trims and the well-lit digital dash. But with so many manufacturers entering the Nepali market, we’re seeing a variety of models driving around on our streets these days. So how do you choose your next set of wheels? Lucky for you, I’ve owned, wrecked, gotten bored of, and replaced quite a few vehicles in recent years as an automotive enthusiast. While the following list is in no particular order, it applies to car and somewhat to motorcycle buyers, and they have certainly helped me pick some of the best vehicles I’ve ever owned, and sometimes have helped me figure out why it was the worst decision I’ve ever made.

NEED vs. WANT

Be honest with yourself: Will this new ride ever see the river crossings of Mustang, or will it simply get you from home to your office in the crowded street of Kathmandu? If you get something that does it all, you’ll end up spending too much on a tank that barely squeezes through the chaotic mess that our valley has to offer. Life is full of making choices. Prioritize with a list of Needs that fall before your Wants to help you narrow down your choices.

BUDGET

Regardless of if you know the salesperson or the manager of the brand, and however many thousands they take off the selling price, they’re still in the business of selling and making money. Just because you think you’re getting a great discount is no reason to go above what you can afford or to ride away in a vehicle you have no faith in. Figure out your budget; there are a lot of great online calculators out there to help you decide what you can afford but a good rule of thumb is 20/4/10. Your down payment should be at least 20% of the cost of the vehicle. You should not finance it for more than 4 years. And your payments should not exceed 10% of your income. Stick to those basic rules to keep yourself out of any financial trouble.

24

AUTOLIFE AUGUST 2018

TEST DRIVE EVERYTHING!

You never really know a vehicle until you drive it. Maybe you’re looking for an economical city-commuter. Take your test drive to New Road and test it in the narrow gulleys; take it home and make sure it fits in your parking space. Are you looking for something than can handle off-road trekking? Take it through the worst intersection you can think of. Are you getting bounced around because of a stiff suspension? Can it crawl through those Kathmandu potholes which rival any countryside river crossing? So, on your next day off, make a list of all brands and models that might be of interest to you and give them all a shot, and if you see a new dealership on your way there, give them a shot too.

GROUND CLEARANCE AND SUSPENSION

Even if you only plan on driving your new ride in the metropolis, it needs to get through the construction and disintegrating monsoon roads of Kathmandu. A low-riding, sporty car might look cool and be economical but it won’t be very useful if it gets hung up on the curb to your driveway. The same sentiment goes for your suspension. Bringing a carton of eggs home in your new ride won’t be very fun if you have a scrambled mess before you get there. And if you do plan on bringing

facebook.com/AutolifeNepal

your new car for adventures in the hills, it needs to be able to handle the unpredictability of the beautiful Nepali countryside. Landslides, high-water, rocks in the middle of the road; ensure there’s ample room between your underbody components and the ground to navigate over and around whatever comes your way without getting stuck or damaging your undercarriage.

FOSSIL, HYBRID OR ELECTRIC

The world is moving quickly towards alternative fuels, and rightfully so. Look at the skies over the Kathmandu valley in mid-winter to see why an electric or hybrid car is a responsible choice. Add that to potential petrol shortages like happened a couple of years ago and you’re sitting on solid logical ground to move in the alternative direction. Ultimately, it all comes down

to numbers. Most electric and hybrid manufacturers will tell you how much you can expect to save or spend in electricity each month. Subtract that from your current petrol budget each month to determine if a slightly higher-priced electric vehicle is worth the money.

RELIABILITY

If you know what you want and have done thorough research, you’ll inevitably run into the following situation. There are two cars with similar size and features. They both look great, they both seem to run pretty smoothly on your test drive and they both have that cool new Bluetooth, super-bass system with a back-up camera. However, one car costs 10 lakh more than the other. Why? The answer is simple: one brand has

service stations all over the country and a reputation for being reliable, the other brand is perhaps breaking in the market and doesn’t have the reputation or service infrastructure behind it. Which is the right pick? Everyone has a different budget, situation or thought process and it’s really up to you. Will you be taking this vehicle on long tours where there might be limited options for service stations? Then maybe the more reliable brand is for you. Do you know the brand from somewhere else and are willing to take a chance on the other brand? It takes people to give these brands a chance so they can build up to that brand known for its reliability. Consider what you’re using this vehicle for and what your budget is and do what you think is best.

REVIEW AND RESEARCH THE TRIGGER …THEN PULL

Okay! Now you’ve made a list of what you need (and what would be nice to have as well). You’ve drawn out your budget and saved for that down payment. You’ve taken all your potential new rides on test drives and checked out their ground clearances and suspension systems. You know what you want to power your car (fuel, hybrid, or electricity). And you’ve decided on that reliable brand with service stations all over the country. Now, look at the remaining cars that fit all your criteria. Still can’t decide? Ask yourself this question: Which one makes you FEEL the best? We spend a lot of time in our cars and we need to love them! After all, if you love your car, you’ll take care of it; you’ll bring it for all its services on time; you’ll make sure it’s constantly washed and in pristine condition and you’ll notice that tiny little knock in the front right corner and get it checked immediately. That is what saves us the most money in the long run. Make sure you love your new ride and take care of it and it might be a long time before you’ll have to buy one again.

It wouldn’t be wrong to assume people back in the old days would loath over the fact that there weren’t many options for motorcycles to choose from, since there were only a few motorcycles in Nepal. But now, we loath over the fact that there are too many companies providing us options in all the various motorcycle segments. One of the most competitive segments in Nepal has to be the 200cc – 250cc segment which has over 10 different motorcycle manufacturing companies providing us with various options. One of them happens to be TVS, who came up with the Apache RTR 200 4V in recent times. And the RTR has definitely been getting a splendid response from the market. But now, it has upped its game and gone to update it where TVS now, brings us the Apache RTR 200 4V Race Edition 2.0. TVS did far more than just a simple cosmetic update where it comes with new features that are likely to spark enthusiasm amongst the moto community in Nepal. We’ve had the pleasure of testing the new racer and come up with our take on the new Apache. So, let’s not keep you waiting and get on with the details.

AUTOLIFE AUGUST 2018 27

DESIGNS AND FEATURES

The Apache RTR 200 4V Race Edition 2.0 comes in 4 new colors schemes which are black, red, grey and white. All of them are great to look at, especially with the coloring accents which are available in all colors giving the motorcycle an edgy and sporty feel. The new Apache also gets a windshield which the previous one lacked. Although it doesn’t really add any noticeable wind protection to the rider, you do feel rested knowing that there’s something covering one of our favorite parts of the bike which is the instrument cluster. The all-digital instrument cluster hasn’t received any updates, although, we don’t think it’s all that necessary since it comes with a shift light, gear position indicator, a clock, 3 different trip meters, lap timer and much more. The barrel exhaust still gives out the signature throaty exhaust note that the Apache series have and is a look that’s been fancied by many, but of course looks are subjective. Slipper clutch is a cool new addition as it makes the new Apache a better racer than the previous model, plus now, you get bragging rights. Although TVS has other options listed like the FI variant or Pirelli tires option but sadly we have not received any information on its availability in Nepal. The new Apache, like the previous model, still comes with LED DRLs, halogen headlights, LED taillights and LED turn signals. The Apache RTR 200 4V Race Edition 2.0 does come in two tire variants where one is more road going and good for cornering while the second option is dual purpose tires at the rear for those individuals who see bad roads more often during the day. .

ENGINE AND PERFORMANCE

The Apache RTR 200 4V Race Edition 2.0 is powered by a 4-stroke, 197.75cc, single cylinder engine which produces a maximum power of 20.5 PS @ 8500 RPM and maximum torque of 18.1 Nm @ 7000 RPM. Ever wondered what RTR stands for? Well, it’s Racing Throttle Response and that clearly is translated in the Apache’s acceleration; the punch that it has makes it ideal for coming out of corners and getting into race speeds.

28

AUTOLIFE AUGUST 2018

facebook.com/AutolifeNepal

We had moments on open roads where we had the chance to push it hard and the engine did well to hold up with what we asked of it. The oil-cooler does what is asked of it as we didn’t notice any significant over heating during traffic. One of the main highlights for the Apache RTR 200 4V Race Edition 2.0 is the addition of slipper clutch. It’s the first bike in the 200cc segment to feature one and really adds to the riding experience for riders. So down shifting wasn’t a problem either as the gear shifts were relatively smoother and that’s something that naturally comes to a bike with a slipper clutch.

BRAKING AND SUSPENSION

The Apache RTR 200 4V Race Edition 2.0 gets a 270 mm Petal type disc in the front and a 240 mm Petal type disc in the rear. The front brakes are by no means progressive and does the job of stopping the bike but of course TVS facebook.com/AutolifeNepal

has room to improve here, although we can’t say the same for the rear brakes because it has a big initial bite which gives you plenty of command over it. It took us a few tries to get used to the braking threshold so the rear wheel would stop locking, after that, you just can’t stop power sliding and showing off. Besides that, the suspensions were ideally set up for the daily rider as it was tuned soft enough to soak up the patches of tarmac that had potholes; yet, it was stiff enough to handle turns brilliantly. The feedback from the suspensions were superb and you can get a good feel of the tarmac while really lets you know how far you should let the Apache lean over. Entering corners couldn’t have been easier with the new slipper clutch which the race edition RTR now gets. Coming in at high speeds, you’ll need to down shift quickly and

ENTERING CORNERS COULDN’T HAVE BEEN EASIER WITH THE NEW SLIPPER CLUTCH WHICH THE RACE EDITION RTR NOW GETS

AUTOLIFE AUGUST 2018 29

for those who don’t have much experience or are a little rusty tend to shift down one gear too much. That causes the rear wheel to chatter but with the race edition RTR, you won’t feel the full wrath of an incorrect down shift so it inspires a lot of confidence, especially for novice riders that need a more forgiving bike to learn the art of shifting.

COMFORT AND HANDLING

The ergonomics are sporty but not overly committed. We would like to say it leans towards the commuter side of things. The bike is nimble and we could easily zip around the morning jam but still it was stable enough to handle the short bursts of speed on an open road. The wheelbase was a contributing factor allowing for stability in speed and the nimbleness. Like we mentioned earlier, the way the suspensions were tuned was ideal for the roads that we have as we didn’t face any discomfort throughout the duration of the test ride. The RTR handles like a charm; the Double Cradle Split Synchro STIFF chassis feels stable and the RTR dipped into corners with ease. Not to mention, the dual purpose tires which were on the model we were testing handled the corners pretty well and we could only imagine the amount of confidence that the road going tires would inspire. The off-road tire variant had a pretty decent grip on muddy and broken road patches too, which is pretty useful given that those are common in Nepal.

VERDICT

The Apache RTR 200 4V Race Edition 2.0 is a bike that is sure to be on the top of the list that commuters will be looking to get in the 200cc motorcycle segment. Well, who wouldn’t, with the feature loaded all-digital instrument console, the edgy body styling, punchy acceleration, well balanced suspensions and of course the signature RTR exhaust note? We thoroughly enjoyed all of the moments on the race edition RTR and we have to say that TVS definitely have ticked the right boxes with the new RTR and have given the market one of the best options for enthusiasts and commuters alike.

TVS DEFINITELY HAVE TICKED THE RIGHT BOXES WITH THE NEW RTR AND HAVE GIVEN THE MARKET ONE OF THE BEST OPTIONS FOR ENTHUSIASTS AND COMMUTERS ALIKE. 30

KAWASAKI NINJA 400

K

awasaki’s Ninja 300 upon its launch dominated the lower displacement market and it went unmatched until the introduction of KTM’s RC 390 and Yamaha’s R3. Before that, it dominated its respective segment as there was no other bike that could cater to that segment like the Ninja 300 did. However, the introduction of its new competitors did put a dent to the Ninja’s market position but with passing years, Kawasaki worked silently under the radar and earlier this year, they revealed the all new Ninja 400. The Ninja 400 is Kawasaki’s ticket out of the saturated 250cc and 300cc market and is out to get itself a new set of crowd all for themselves. We’ve also seen its launch in India earlier this April and this made us imagine the scenario where the Ninja 400 did make its way into our market. It definitely would be a treat for us enthusiasts should that happen. Now, let’s take a look at what the all new Ninja 400 has to offer. The Ninja series have always been handsome motorcycles and the same can be said about the Ninja 400 since it will

definitely turn heads like the others in the Ninja series have done. The Ninja series have always been designed sharply with impressive muscular design cues giving it an imposing look. The same goes for the 400 as well, and Kawasaki have done an impressive job with the Ninja 400’s designs. The Ninja 400 currently comes in two colors; black and the classic Kawasaki green. The design is futuristic and takes much of its styling cues from its supercharged big brother, the Ninja H2. The Ninja 400 gets a body that can easily be mistaken for a bike from a larger displacement class. Kawasaki have brought in a revamped chassis to the new Ninja; redesigning it to be a lighter, stiffer, and better handling frame. The wheelbase has also been shortened by 35.6mm, which is a lot, to make for a quicker steering body while making the swingarm longer by 10mm which aids in rear-wheel traction and suspension action. Kawasaki claims the Ninja 400 weighs more than 7 kilos less than its predecessor the Ninja 300. Well of course, we can’t miss out on what everyone is excited about, which has got to be the updates on its engine. The new 399cc engine is made to supply a lot more low-end and facebook.com/AutolifeNepal

OWNER’S REVIEW

It’s been about a month that I have bought the TATA Tiago and I have been loving the experience of driving it around. I would have to say that the Tiago is best in its class in comparison of safety, fuel economy, space, price and looks; both interior and exterior. Not just that, but I even really love the sound system in this car. For me, every aspect of the TATA Tiago just makes it so much more enjoyable.

Govinda Gajmer

Owner, Shuva Laxmi Gahana Griha

Until now, I have driven the Tiago till Trishuli and on the highway it gave a really good mileage of 2025kmpl. The car has a good ground clearance and good suspensions which makes it very comfortable to drive even on bumpy roads. Whereas for driving inside the city, I have had no trouble fitting into tight spaces and parking the Tiago has not been an issue yet. Since its only been 1 month that I have owned the TATA Tiago, I haven’t had the need to get it serviced yet. But still, I keep getting calls from the company asking about how the car is doing and if I am having any problems with it or not. This shows that the company actually cares about its customers and I really like the company’s consumer service. TATA Tiago has good boot space and enough room for the passengers as well, allowing for a comfortable drive. I would definitely recommend the Tiago to my friends and family. All in all, I think it’s a good family car considering the price you pay for it.

midrange power with a linear delivery which translates to a smooth and predictable response giving it an easy-to-control engine character. That’s good news for beginner riders looking for a sports bike in the sub-400cc segment as such kind of power delivery won’t be overwhelming or overpowering. Kawasaki has cited the power output to be 47.5 bhp at 10,000RPM and the torque output as 38Nm at 8,000RPM. The braking department also gets an overhaul, with bigger front brake rotor that measures 310mm in diameter along with a new Nissin caliper and master cylinder. It also gets a beefier 41mm fork and a Bottom-Link UniTrak, gas-charged shock with adjustable preload to tackle corners with ease. The front tire being 110/70-17 and the rear tire is also beefed up with a wider 150/70-17 rear tire, which adds more surface area which means better traction. Not to mention, the beefier tires give the Ninja 400 a more proportionate appearance. With all that being said, the Kawasaki Ninja 400 will get ABS, slipper clutch and all-LED lighting as standard features which is definitely a plus point.

AUTOLIFE INTERVIEW

IN CONVERSATION WITH

MR. SACHIN ARYAL GENERAL MANAGER AT PARAMOUNT MOTORS PVT. LTD. WORDS: PRASHANT MANANDHAR PHOTOS: GAURAV XHOMPATE SUNUWAR

36

AUTOLIFE AUGUST 2018

facebook.com/AutolifeNepal

It seems like even with recent changes in the taxation policies brought in by the government hasn’t been enough to put a significant dent in the auto industry. With newer vehicles coming to our shores, the industry just seems as exciting as it always has been. Just recently, MG Motors have been taken under by Paramount Motors and we certainly believe that this will open up a lot of new doors for the brand. Here, we decided to chat with Mr. Sachin Aryal, General Manager at Paramount Motors Pvt. Ltd. to know more about where the company is heading and what more we can expect from MG Motors. Not just that, but we even talk about their latest addition, the MG ZS and what they are cooking for the NADA Auto Show.

FIRST OFF, WHAT HAVE YOU GOT TO SAY ABOUT THE RECENT TAKEOVER BY PARAMOUNT MOTORS PVT. LTD. OF MG MOTORS?

Paramount Motors have only recently taken over the distribution of MG Motors in Nepal and we are planning to go really aggressively in the Nepalese market by providing better services and products to our customers. MG has always been perceived as a well-known brand in the world, being one of the oldest to manufacture racing and sports cars. So, we hope that we can do justice to the MG brand and establish a new identity for the brand in Nepal.

WHAT CAN WE EXPECT FROM MG MOTORS IN THE FUTURE AND WHERE IS THE COMPANY HEADING?

Our buyers can expect a lot of new things from MG Motors, such as safer and more reliable products, design-oriented vehicles and more of new generation line-ups that will appeal to the younger crowd. Not only that but all of these products will be high-tech and have a lot of technological developments in them. Also, in coming days, MG is planning to come up with electric vehicles and we shall be bringing them into the Nepalese market as well. As a company, we have just started out with the recent takeover. So, we are at a very initial phase with MG Motors. However, we will be officially opening our world class showroom within August and we are even establishing workshops. We will also be expanding our distribution network, with one of the first dealership being at Manigram for both Butwal and Bhairawa market. Not just that, but we are looking for prospective dealers for both eastern and western Nepal, so we will be spreading our networks throughout the whole nation.

REGARDING THE MG ZS, WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS FOR THE VEHICLE? HOW ARE YOU PLANNING TO POSITION IT IN THE MARKET?

The ZS is already in the market but we haven’t officially launched it. Actually, we are planning to announce everything at once when our showroom will be ready to operate. So, we will be launching both our showroom and the ZS at the same time with the official announcement about the takeover by Paramount Motors.

facebook.com/AutolifeNepal

The ZS is a compact SUV and we will be positioning it as the cross segment. We are planning to push the ZS in this segment because of the present road condition and the demand for vehicles with higher ground clearance and SUV styling. We will be competing with cross vehicles that are already prominent in the market but because the ZS is a more premium vehicle, we believe we will have some edge over our competitors. Not only that, but we want to position it at a very reasonable price even though the ZS is a European made vehicle with excellent build quality.

WHAT IS THE USP OF THE ZS AND HOW HAVE YOU PLANNED TO GO ON ABOUT AFTER SALES SERVICE FOR THE VEHICLE?

If we talk about the main USP of the ZS then it has to be the design of the vehicle. The exteriors are really well designed and any one who has seen the vehicle has been amazed by the looks of the ZS. Another USP is the interior; the interiors give out a cockpit vibe and has really furnished finishing giving it a premium feel. Also, it comes loaded with all the latest features; some which we haven’t yet seen in other vehicles of its segment. Another interesting aspect of the ZS is that it comes with 3 different driving modes; urban, rural and sports mode, so you can experience different drivability in various road conditions. Apart from that the ZS even comes with cruise control and side curtain airbags which we believe is an essential safety feature. Regarding after sales, we are managing to bring a high volume of spare parts and sell it for a very reasonable and affordable price. We are also giving 2 years or 60,000Km warranty with the ZS which will assure the customers that it is a reliable product and that they won’t have to worry about the vehicle breaking down. We are also establishing a service station in Kathmandu and every dealership will require to have a 3-tier setup for service stations.

WHAT ARE THE SALES FIGURES THAT YOU ARE EXPECTING TO ATTAIN WITH THE NEW ZS?

If every thing goes well, we are expecting 300 units per year for the ZS. The vehicle comes with 3 different variants, 1.5L petrol engine standard spec, 1.5L petrol engine full spec and 1.0L Turbo engine with full specification. So, we are expecting the previous mentioned sales

figures with all the variants combined.

UNTIL NOW, HOW HAVE MG’S CUSTOMERS BEEN PERCEIVING THE BRAND AND ITS PRODUCTS?

Until now, the customers have really been appreciating the MG brand. Not only in Nepal, but as one of the oldest European brands, MG has been gaining respect throughout the whole world. So, we believe that with such perspective, people have been respecting the brand as it is.

WITH THE RECENT CHANGES IN THE TAXATION POLICY, WHAT IS YOUR TAKE ON HOW IT WILL AFFECT THE AUTOMOBILE INDUSTRY?

I believe that it is necessary to own a vehicle these days. Everyone is working and they need to be at different places, every now and then, so it is a must for them to have a personal vehicle. Even though, there are options of public transportation, the facilities that are provided are not up to par and still lack behind a lot so they don’t have any other choice than opt for a personal vehicle. But the government have looked at it from a very different perspective and raised the taxes. And with the various terrains in Nepal, sometimes, smaller engines are not enough. So, definitely, there are going to be a few issues but if it allows for a better economic growth then its fine.

ALSO, WITH NADA AUTOSHOW COMING UP, WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS REGARDING NADA? CAN WE EXPECT ANY NEW LAUNCHES FROM MG MOTORS THIS NADA?

NADA is definitely going to be an amazing platform for MG Motors and it will give an opportunity to educate the people about the brand and its products, maybe might even get a lot of prospective buyers from it. We will be opening our showroom soon so the auto show will definitely give us the added mileage for establishing a stronger brand presence. This time our main goal is to make the presence of MG Motors felt in the auto industry and hopefully push our sales as well. We have a lot of expectations from NADA and we are planning accordingly to be aggressive with our marketing and sales. This time around our main focus will be on two vehicles, the ZS and GS because of the trend in the cross SUV segment and will definitely be promoting the two vehicles.

AUTOLIFE FEATURE

THE STATE OF THE

ROADS

h monsoon! The season we all wait for with much gusto; when the rain is supposed to rid the city of pollutants in the air, unravel clean black roads and a vibrant blue sky when not adorned with beautiful black thunderous clouds. At least, that’s what it is supposed to be like, and what was true a decade or two back. Nowadays, it seems as if the government has bitten off too large a piece of the pie; a project that never seems to see an end. We, as citizens of this country, have survived a few too many special circumstances in the past and far too many in the recent few decades. Isn’t it time we see some light at the end of the tunnel?

A

In the fiscal year of 2071-72, the government collected revenue more than 12 billion rupees from vehicle related taxes, which saw a 4-billion-rupee increase from the previous fiscal year. Out of which almost 5 billion rupees is just from the Bagmati region. These numbers have been on an uphill climb since who knows when, but the condition of the roads, the condition of the environment, the agony of traffic, all have been going downhill for just as long. The only slightly appreciable action taken by the government so far has been the road expansion project, that too not without its own scandals.

38

AUTOLIFE AUGUST 2018

From the data I’ve been able to collect from government reports and financial analysis reports, the government of Nepal was able to add a whopping 404km of road (black-topped, gravel and earthen roads) combined all over Nepal. The total road network of Nepal is now at 12900km according to the data from the Department of Roads. Now compare that to our neighbour India, where they set a target of constructing 59,000km of road by 2018, and by the year 2016-17 they had already completed construction of 47500km of roads. India might not be a fair comparison, you might say, and it might be true. India doesn’t have to deal with the vastly differing terrain like we have to. But why shouldn’t we compare our road projects with India? We might not be able to compete along the lines of the scope of their projects that go into the thousands of billions of rupees, but we can at least take a page out of their books on how to get things done at a prompt time. Like how many Dashain’s have gone by where we’ve heard the infamous Melamchi water will rid the valley of its water woes? How many years have we been patiently waiting for the esteemed Hetauda fast-track? How many politicians have we heard say they’ll make Kathmandu pollution free within a few years?

facebook.com/AutolifeNepal

The severe lack of professionalism from all aspects in Nepal, have led us to this situation I believe. The public is fiercely angry with the government for not being able to provide better roads, public transport, and sky-high vehicle taxes. But the public also doesn’t perform its civic duties of keeping the government in check. If we don’t like the skyhigh taxes the government charges us and we feel like our tax money is being misused, have we bothered to raise our voices? Have we ever bothered to raise our voices to the contractors that only seem to pave roads during the monsoon season (aka Asarey Bikas)? In effect, these contractors are being paid by us, and we’re letting them loot us of millions and billions every year to do a crappy job at paving roads that only last a few months at the most. On the other hand, we’ve also seen how effectively these contractors can work overnight when a certain high-profile person from a neighbouring country comes to visit. I mean it was jaw-dropping to see a stretch of road full of potholes and uneven levels get buttery smooth overnight with lane markings. Only if the rate of work done was like that every time, but that might be wishful thinking on my part. As said above, we don’t have to work at India’s pace of adding 150km of roads a day. Us Nepali people, we’re an understanding and flexible bunch, just give us what we paid for. One might recall a few incidents that went viral on social media this past year: a few kids being swallowed by open drains along the ring road, Chabahil-BoudhaJorpati road ceasing to exist, the environmental chaos laid upon by the Melamchi project, videos of monks and celebrities constructing roads that have been left bare by the government, etc. The list goes on and on, and it’s heart-breaking to see the state of the roads in the capital and leaves us to our imagination what the state of the roads might be in other parts of the country. We constantly keep on complaining about how bad everything is here in our country, but I say, we have a part to play in it too. We’re all very good at being armchair activists when it comes to complaining and putting fault on someone else, but we should also be just as good at taking these matters to where it has an optimum impact. With the federalization of the states, the government has given a lot of power to the local governments and these governments are more accessible and answerable to us now more than ever. All it takes for us, is to raise a unified voice to our dissatisfaction that we see in our locality to make the necessary changes.

ALL IT TAKES FOR US, IS TO RAISE A UNIFIED VOICE TO OUR DISSATISFACTION THAT WE SEE IN OUR LOCALITY TO MAKE THE NECESSARY CHANGES

With growing urbanization, owning private transportation has become a need more than a luxury. The dire state of the public transport system that is either running over capacity most of the time or simply because cabs for hire never agree to go on fare or to the desired location, the convenience of owning a private vehicle is far greater than to not. Which is also the reason we see an increase in the number of vehicle imports year to year despite the cost of ownership going up the same way. If only we had proper roads, I imagine, our country would benefit at a level we may never be able to comprehend. If only we had better roads, we might have a proper flow of vehicles, leading to vehicles operating at optimum city speeds, leading to reduced emissions leading to better health of our citizens, smooth roads leading to reduced vehicular maintenance costs and reduced road maintenance costs, all of which benefit the country in a positive way. So can we please do something about the state of our roads, for us to see a better future?

B

efore we start off this review let us ask you a question, if you had an enduro bike for the day what would you do? Would you just ride it around the city or would you take it out for an adventure ride into the hills? Well, you can get the answer to that later on in this review but first let us clear out the meaning of an enduro bike. An enduro bike is designed to tackle different terrains while travelling long distances on the off-road trails. This really tests the endurance of the rider both physically and mentally hence the name “Enduro”. Although dual sport motorcycles look quite similar to enduro motorcycles, they are built with a mixture with both off road and on road riding qualities in mind. Kind of like a jack of all trades and the king of none. Another very common misconception is that super moto bikes are just the enduro bike with smaller wheels, while it is true that the super moto bikes have smaller rims than the enduro bike but despite the smaller diameter, it has wider tires for better grip on the tarmac. The suspensions are also stiffer to make it less bouncy, the gearing is changed to suit road riding and has a slightly lower seat height due to the smaller rims. With that cleared out the bike that we were presented with was the Cross X 250 R Enduro. Although a motard version of this bike is available, we just got the enduro variant and here we discuss on how the motorcycle performed and our thoughts on the 250cc dirt contender.

DESIGN AND FEATURES

The Cross X 250 R looks very similar to the bigger and more premium Cross X 250 SE. The most notable change has to be the Dual exhaust offered only in the Cross X 250 R, which is not available in the higher end 250 SE. It has the dirt bike vibe with sharp angled body panels which are made out of very sturdy materials to make sure that it can tank heavy abuse, which is common while enduro riding. Unlike road bikes, it’s very common for dirt bike riders to fall over due to the extreme conditions of the roads, so to ensure that it doesn’t break easily, the tough materials used in its composition comes in very handy. This, however, doesn’t mean it’s unbreakable; it will obviously have its limits.

THE RUMBLE AND THE CRACKLING THAT THE TWIN EXHAUST PRODUCES JUST MAKES THE OFF ROAD TRAIL EXPERIENCE THAT MUCH MORE EXCITING

The one that we got for the test drive was finished in black and the color looked very nice on the bike especially with the white and orange REVZILLA livery to make it pop out even more. And we must say this is definitely one gorgeous looking bike. The bike does lack the anodized aluminum parts of the 250 SE but the price difference between the two models show why they are missing. It gets a skid plate under the engine as standard to protect it from potential damage from underneath. On top of that, it also gets Acerbis hand guards as standard across all models along with other premium features such as Nissin brakes and RK Japan Chain and sprocket set.

ENGINE AND PERFORMANCE

The Engine however is unchanged from the 250 SE and it gets all the power of the SE; producing 29.8 HP @ 9000 RPM. The peak power is on the higher side of the rev range, however, the torque does cover up for this very well as it can be felt from the lower rev ranges. The torque is pretty evident and will be quite thrilling when you crack open the throttle. The rumble and the crackling that the twin exhaust produces just makes the off road trail experience that much more exciting. The engine has been tuned to provide the best performance possible with very good reliability, hence their tagline: “Built to last”. There wasn’t a moment where we wished for more power; it pretty much powered through anything that we threw at its way, be it big rocks, mud, molehills, etc. and ripped through everything with relative ease. Plus, if you know how to, then you can pop a few wheelies to make your adventures more interesting. (Disclaimer: we do not advise you to perform these stunts without proper guidance and riding gear.) If you do know how to do it then the 250R will support you with the power that you need to pop the front wheel. The stock gearing is 14T (Teeth) front and 49T on the rear sprocket. You get the option to swap out the 49T rear sprocket for a bigger 51T sprocket that will increase the initial pull of the bike but will adversely reduce the top end performance of the bike. If you are going to go hardcore off-roading then having more initial punch will be a better idea. 42

BRAKING AND SUSPENSION

The braking duties are handled by Nissin which has a very good reputation in the motorcycling industry for producing excellent brakes and this unit that is shipped with 250R is no different. It has an excellent feel and feedback even after constant abuse; we didn’t feel much of the brakes fading at all. The Enduro variant comes equipped with 240mm disc brakes front and back while the motard version comes with a much bigger 310mm front disc brakes and 240mm rear brakes for added braking power required on the streets. The front caliper is a dual piston unit and a single piston unit at the rear for both variants. The suspensions were AJ1 inverted hydraulic suspension and AJ1 Coil spring hydraulic shock absorber at the rear. Both units are fully adjustable so you can adjust it to get the perfect setup that is specific for your body weight and riding style, trust us, this will be one of the biggest and the best changes that you can make to your bike. However, if you set it up wrong then it can significantly reduce the bikes handling capabilities. So, make sure that if you do decide to get your suspension worked on, you get it done by the hands of someone that you trust and has proper knowledge of what they are doing. The suspensions were set up pretty well on our test bike; it felt plush and absorbed all the bumps very well. As we mentioned earlier, we had some fun with the bike popping some wheelies and doing some jumps and the suspension took all of it without any problem and it handled it very well.

HANDLING AND COMFORT

“Everybody is a genius, but if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree then it will live the rest of its life believing that it’s stupid.” – Albert Einstein.

THERE WASN’T A MOMENT WHERE WE WISHED FOR MORE POWER; IT PRETTY MUCH POWERED THROUGH ANYTHING THAT WE THREW AT ITS WAY, BE IT BIG ROCKS, MUD, MOLEHILLS, ETC.

AUTOLIFE AUGUST 2018 43

Just as Albert Einstein has popularly quoted, if you take something and test it some place it’s not designed for then it will not deliver its full potential. Similarly, if you compare the handling of the 250R Enduro to other street bikes on the tarmac then it will definitely lack a bit behind and that’s the reason for the Motard’s existence. We are not trying to say that the enduro variant is bad on the roads but what we are trying to say is that if you are riding the enduro variant only on the streets then you are missing out on a lot of fun. The enduro variant with 80/100- 21-inch knobby tires upfront and the 100/9018-inch knobby tires at the rear had exceptional grip when we took it off road. If you opt for the motard which would suit you better for road riding, then the front tire will be a 100/80- 17 inch and the rear will be a 140/70- 17 inch. The grip inspired confidence and the only feelings you will get in turns are to push harder, but we made sure that we knew our limits and didn’t go overboard. The suspensions did their job very well as mentioned above but the Aluminum Perimeter Frame provided the bike with the stability that it needed to be able to do all of the maneuvers. The feedback was always present and we could feel the terrain under the tire properly so that we could figure out how much traction we had available. The grip made it a little difficult to let the rear tire lose, but when it did go lose, boy, did we have fun sliding around corners through the dirt.

VERDICT

The Cross X 250R was a joy to ride and we had a memorable time onboard the beauty. It proved its capability and more importantly, it showed us the exciting side of riding around the dirt. Considering that the Cross X 250 R comes in at Rs. 5,84,000/-, it is a very good and viable option for people looking into buying a dirt bike but don’t want to spend exuberant amount of money on it. There are a few dual sport bikes that will come at this price range but other enduro bikes are priced a little higher than the 250R. So, swing your leg over the Cross X 250 R and find out for yourself if it is what you are looking for.

AUTOLIFE LAUNCHPAD

THE ALL NEW

TOYOTA RUSH

Terrible road conditions and its slow development is something Nepal’s residents face in their day to day lives. You can even say that traversing through our roads is like driving on an off road track. We need vehicles that are capable of handling the battered pavement. Fortunately, Toyota is set to launch the new Rush which is more than capable of handling our pothole ridden roads. With its sharp elegant styling and heightened performance, Toyota’s multi-talented SUV makes its way on to the Nepalese auto market.

SET TO LAUNCH IN NEPAL

The 2018 Toyota Rush’s cabin has a functional form which is observed in most cars from Toyota but the spotlight, of course, is on the fact that the Rush can seat seven occupants with absolute comfort. It houses three rows of comfortably accommodating seats which can also be configured so you can carry various loads. Conveniently, each row of seats has an accessory socket placed to enable its occupants to charge their smart phones or other devices. The seats have plenty of room even when they’ve been occupied. The Rush gets features such as a 7-inch touchscreen, automatic climate control, push-button start and an 8-speaker audio system. What’s neat is while you carry the Electronic Key, all the doors can be unlocked simply by pressing the unlock button on the door handle, and you can start the car by pressing the brake pedal and pushing the engine switch. The interior can be kept at a comfortable temperature

even when under the mid-day summer sun with the airconditioner’s excellent cooling performance. Other highlights for the design include all LED headlamps, a matte black cladding and two-tone 17-inch alloy wheels. The new Rush is designed to tackle rough roads where all that can be seen with the high approach and departure angles that enable the Rush to navigate around a variety of terrain with a Dual VVT-I (Variable Valve Timing-intelligent) engine. The Rush comes only in a single engine variant, i.e. in petrol. The 1.5-litre petrol engine develops 104hp of peak power at 6000RPM and 136Nm of peak torque at 4300RPM. The transmission is handled by either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic for the Rush depending on the selected option. Unfortunately there’s no word regarding the diesel-powered Rush as of yet. The Rush employs SRS driver airbag, SRS front passenger airbag, SRS side airbags (front seats) and SRS curtain shield airbags in both the front and rear seats for its airbags. Anti-lock brakes with EBD, vehicle stability control and hill start assist comes as standard on the Rush.

SPECIFICATIONS Engine: 2NR-VE, 1.5L, In-Line 4 cylinder, 16 valves, DOHC, Dual VVT-i Maximum Power: 104hp@6000RPM Maximum Torque: 136Nm @4200RPM Transmission: 4 Speed Automatic, 5 Speed Manual Overall Length: 4,435mm Overall Width: 1,695mm Overall Height: 1,705mm Ground clearance: 220mm Fuel Capacity: 45 Liters

The Toyota Rush is 4435mm long, 1695mm wide and 1705mm tall. To put those numbers into perspective, its 21mm shorter and 40mm narrower compared to the Honda BR-V. However, it’s taller by 39mm, and its 2685mm wheelbase is larger by 23mm when compared to the Honda. The Toyota Rush’s 220mm ground clearance puts it in the league with the bigger SUVs. The Rush’s wide grille and flared wheel arches make it interestingly look a lot like the Fortuner. Overall, with Toyota’s quality, durability and reliability, QDR for short, we see a lot of potential in the new Toyota Rush and it is undoubtedly bound to be reliable as well. With all that being said, we cannot wait to get our hands on this fine craft for a detailed test drive to let you in on the nitty gritty details of the 2018 Toyota Rush.

AUTOLIFE NADA

NADA AUTO SHOW 2018 WHAT TO EXPECT? COMPILED BY: ANKIT R. TULADHAR

So it is August, yes! It is that time of the year again where we discuss what could be the potential cars and motorcycles set to launch at the biggest Auto Expo of Nepal the NADA auto show (Nepal Automobiles Dealers Association). For 2018, we have quite a lineup that we expect to see at the 2018 edition of the auto show. So, let’s briefly go over what cars and bikes could be there to steal the spot light.

SUZUKI CIAZ

The Ciaz was Suzuki’s answer to the mid-sized sedan segment, which was pretty successful after its launch. The Ciaz is due to go under the operating table and receive a much-needed facelift, especially considering the fact that Hyundai and Honda have launched newer versions of their mid-sized sedans, the Verna and the City, respectively. Most of the update is reserved for the front end of the car as it gets an updated headlight unit with LED DRLs (Daytime Running Lights.), blacked out trims and a slight revision to the taillight. Under the bonnet, the facelifted Ciaz will receive a new 1.5-liter petrol engine that is more powerful than the previous engine but becomes more economical due to the addition of the mild hybrid system in the petrol variant as well. We expect the Ciaz to make its way to the NADA auto show, as Suzuki will be launching this car this August 20th, 2018 in India.

PEUGEOT 3008 2.0 DIESEL The petrol powered 1.6-liter 3008 has been a smash hit in the market after its introduction during last year’s NADA auto show. Peugeot are hoping to recreate that success using the same strategy as they just might unveil the 2.0 Liter Diesel powered 3008 for the first time publicly during the 2018 NADA auto show. There are no other updates lined up for the 3008 apart from the new engine option available. So, for those people who were wishing for a diesel variant of the 3008, your wish has been heard and the 3008 will be available in the diesel variant as well.

JEEP COMPASS Now coming back to combustion engines, we have seen all the preparations that Jeep has been making to make its way to Nepal and this might be the first time that we will properly get to see the muchawaited Jeep compass at the 2018 NADA auto show. The new Compass has a lot of design resemblance from its elder sibling, so much so, that some people even refer to it as the smaller Grand Cherokee. The signature seven slot grille has been carried over to the Compass as well. The headlamps are sleek and house LED daytime running lamps in them. The fog lamp has been incorporated into the bumper and has a dual tone effect. The SUV profile is carried very well with big wheel arches under which the 18-inch alloy wheels have been fitted.

HYUNDAI IONIQ AND KONA EV From Mild hybrid systems, we go to full Electronic Vehicles (EV). It is rumored that Hyundai is preparing to showcase two new EV models during the 2018 NADA Auto Show. The two EVs to be showcased are the Ioniq which is an electric motor powered sedan, while the Kona is a crossover vehicle. With only a few options available in the Nepalese market when it comes to EVs, it looks like Hyundai is trying to gain the first mover advantage by bringing in two models simultaneously which will definitely help the potential buyers looking for electric vehicles.

TATA TIGOR EV Tata is also stepping up their game in the electric vehicle department as they are said to be ready to show off the Tigor EV during this year’s NADA auto show. Tata doesn’t want to be late to enter this new-found market in Nepal so they will be hoping to catch attention of those market with the electric variant of the road going compact sedan, the Tata Tigor.

TVS APACHE RR310 The wait is finally over as the Apache RR310 is all set to launch in Nepal. After its first appearance at EICMA 2016 as the concept Akula 310, TVS has conceived the race bred Apache RR310 and launched it in India in 2017. The Apache RR310 receives much of the Racing DNA of the Apache family in top spec racing components while staying commuter friendly. The 312.2cc engine generates a maximum power of 34PS at 9700rpm and maximum torque of 27.3Nm at7700rpm. The Apache RR310 comes with a 6 speed gear box tuned to respond with racing precision. It gets a KYB suspension that ensures optimum dampening. It comes with dual channel ABS as standard which is a plus point in terms of safety. We’d have to say that the RR310 is definitely going to be an exciting addition to 300cc motorcycle segment and we can’t wait to see how this fine craft fares on our roads. And maybe, the wait might just be over, as we can expect TVS to launch this motorcycle this NADA.

YAMAHA R15 V3.0 The Yamaha R15 has paved a way for young riders to get into sports riding ever since the launch of version 1.0 back in 2008. Ever since then, the R15 models have seen an evolution and has been growing. People have always trusted Yamaha as they are one of the only motorcycle brands that is offering an entry level sports bike in the 150cc category in India and Nepal. The R15 series hadn’t seen any significant upgrades till now after the V2.0. But now, the much awaited R15 V3.0 has been launched at the Indian Auto Expo 2018. The R15 V3.0 is a much sportier and premium looking bike and the introduction of the all new R15 is definitely going to appeal many looking to get into sports riding.

HONDA X BLADE The X Blade is one of the most stylish commuters that Honda has come up with. It comes with complete LED lighting, a windscreen, stylish saree guard, hazard lights, a long single seat; all these features make for an excellent commuter. The pillion grab rails have also been well integrated as part of the X Blade’s design.

The new 155cc engine on the R15 produces maximum power output of 19bhp at 10,000rpm and peak torque of 14.7 Nm at 8,500 rpm. The new version even gets a slip and assist clutchsetup making every day rides easier. The new enhancements are claimed to have improved the throttle response and performance, if you’ve thought that R15 V2.0 had a sharp and sleek look the V3.0 gets an even sharper and sportier look. The looks of the R15 V3.0 have been highly inspired by Yamaha’s flagship models like the R6 and the R1 and it has taken a lot of design cues from its older siblings. The bike gets an all new LED headlight setup and LED tail lights. The R15 V3.0 has to be one of the most awaited launches, and we hope that we might just get a chance to get to see it this NADA.

The X Blade comes with a 162.7cc engine mated to a 5 speed gearbox that produces a peak power of 13.93 bhp @8500 rpm and a peak torque of 13.9 Nm @ 6000rpm. The X Blade gets a diamond shaped frame and comes with a telescopic suspension in front and a mono shock at the rear. The X Blade has a kerb weight of 140Kg. All in all, Honda seemed to have come up with an excellent commuter to which we have our expectations set on Honda’s new X Blade. Hopefully, we might just get to see the X-Blade during the NADA auto show.

SWM MOTORCYCLES Gyan Group is bringing in the SWM brand in Nepal and are introducing an exciting fleet of three motorcycles; RS 300 R, Silver Vase 440 and Super Dual 650. It seems like SWM is going to take over with motorcycles in every segment, giving riders to choose from an enduro, a classic scrambler and an adventure tourer. With so many motorcycles brands coming in to our shores, we are really excited to see how SWM will fare in the ever so competitive twowheeler market. We definitely hope that SWM will bring its lineup of motorcycles this NADA and impress every one of us.

MERCEDES BENZ GLC COUPE 220D 54

AUTOLIFE AUGUST 2018

WORDS & PHOTOS: AL TEAM

IN A MATTER OF HOURS, WE BONDED WITH THE COUPE AND IT ACTUALLY FELT BAD TO SAY GOODBYE TO IT

E

veryone must know about this particular German automotive manufacturer with a 3 pointed star as their emblem. Yes, that’s right, we are talking about the giant auto manufacturer Mercedes Benz. This iconic brand has made a name for itself over the years by producing fantastic cars one after the other. Mercedes Benz has pioneered the luxury segment of cars and only few names can stand toe to toe or outdo them. We can see the luxury car segment booming as more customers are appreciating the masterpieces of the respective companies as this is reflected in luxury car sales. We are not sure how the recent tax rate revision will affect this market but whether it continues to grow at this pace or not, we surely hope it does grow. It’s not very often that we get our hands on exotic machines but on this issue, we had that joyous opportunity as we were handed the keys to the Mercedes Benz GLC Coupe 220D. But it was heart wrenching to have to return the keys after the test drive was over. In a matter of hours, we bonded with the Coupe and it actually felt bad to say goodbye to it. You will easily see why it was so hard saying goodbye to this beauty in our review. So let’s go on to find out, shall we?

EXTERIOR

The vehicles that come out of the Mercedes Benz factory are some of the best-looking cars in their segments with their sense of design and elegance paired together making it a winning pair. The GLC Coupe is no exception to that; with the coupe styling, it stands out in the crowd and will definitely have heads turning. So, by now, you might be wondering where you’ve heard the name GLC? Well, the GLC is Mercedes Benz’s SUV counter part of C class segment. So, a Coupe version of an SUV? Even though it might sound crazy, the GLC Coupe is an facebook.com/AutolifeNepal

AUTOLIFE AUGUST 2018 55

MERCEDES BENZ TOOK THE SMARTER ROUTE AND CONVERTED THE GLC WHICH WAS ALREADY BASED OFF THE SEDAN OPTION FROM MERCEDES C CLASS AND GAVE IT A COUPE STYLING WITH A SLOPING ROOF AND BETTER HANDLING DYNAMICS.

absolute stunner when it comes to looks. Recently, we have been going on and on about how there has been a massive growth in the crossover and SUV segment of cars and how those cars were more practical. Well interestingly, there was a niche market that wanted the practicality of an SUV but the driving feel and look of a sedan. But, you can’t just jack up a sedan and call it an SUV, so, Mercedes Benz took the smarter route and converted the GLC which was already based off the sedan option from Mercedes C class and gave it a Coupe styling with a sloping roof and better handling dynamics. The front of the GLC Coupe is equally striking to the GLC and there isn’t much difference either. The LED Headlights coupled with the LED DRLs (Daytime Running Lights) has a prominent look. The diamond studded grille with the signature 3-pointed star logo sits at the center that is sure to catch eyes. The model that we tested had the optional AMG line wheels. The 19-inch, 10-spoke star shaped wheels went along with the overall look adding a sporty feel. The sloping roof gives it an unmistakable look unless you take a look at the elder sibling, the GLE coupe which has a very similar design which only trained eyes can spot the differences between the two. The Coupe version is slightly wider than the normal GLC which can be seen above the rear wheel arches as it has more pronounced shoulders. The taillights have been also been carried over from the GLC. That’s about it for similarities, other design cues like the Coupe styling gets a more Sedan like rear end with a boot that pops out. No matter which angle you look at this car from, it has a very aggressive and menacing stance.

INTERIOR

Talking about the interior, well, it’s a Mercedes Benz! Need we say any more about it? Each car in the Mercedes Benz lineup has one of the most luxurious options available. They use high quality materials to make sure that nothing is compromised for the customer. With soft touch material and leather everywhere, it is a dream to be driving around in it. The leathers feel excellent and everything inside has a very premium feel to it and every component has also been designed with convenience in mind. The electronically adjustable seats are common in higher end cars but the controllers to adjust the seats are usually placed on the side of the seat which can be tricky to adjust at times. However, the controller on the GLC Coupe is located on the door above the window switches which are easily accessible and the optional heated seat button is also located right next to it. It also has the memory function to make it easier to go back to your personal setting that you have stored if anyone does happen to change it. The Aluminum treatment to the window switches and the Burmester speaker looked very nice with a wooden finish

facebook.com/AutolifeNepal

AUTOLIFE AUGUST 2018 57

around the whole area. The wooden finish is also brought over to the center console where all the other functional buttons are placed. On top of all that wooden center console is where the 7 inch command infotainment system is housed. This, however, is not a touchscreen unit as Mercedes Benz has its unique swivel wheel to control the screen or you can just use the steering wheel mounted controls as it is safer that way. Talking about the steering wheel, it felt very nicely sized as it was very easy to grip and the paddle shifter is positioned just right to make quick gear shifts when you want to take over. The fact that this vehicle has a sloping roof line results in lesser head space than the normal GLC. This also eats into the boot space and reduces the total load capacity. The high loading lip and the smaller boot opening does make it look like a hard place to put your stuff into. However, you can lower the rear portion of the car with a push of a button located inside the boot; there are two buttons which fold the rear seat to open up more space. The tail gate is electric and will close with the push of a button. .

PERFORMANCE AND HANDLING

There are a variety of engine options available for the GLC from the 2.1-liter diesel engine, which we have here, to a monstrous 4.0 Liter V8 petrol engine. The 2.1-liter engine produces 170 BHP of power @ 3000 RPM and 400 Nm of torque @ 1400 RPM. The torque kicks in really low so the car pulls pretty hard from the get go. The 2.1 engine is a tad bit noisy but that’s only when you stand outside the car; once you are inside, most of the noise is filtered out to give you a comfortable and plush ride. The GLC Coupe is fundamentally an SUV but you’ll hardly notice it because it handles much like a sedan. The steering is precise and well balanced which makes you want to push it harder which the car will accept happily, but remember to change the driving mode to something sportier like the sport/sport + mode. If you want your own setup then you can do that in the individual mode where you can custom set the suspension, steering, engine response, etc. The 9 speed gearbox swaps gear pretty fast going and the paddle shifters are pretty responsive for when you want to use it. Talking about gears, the gear lever is not located at the center console like most cars as it is located behind the steering wheel on the right side. We actually found it to be a lot easier to operate than the regular gear lever especially while having to constantly switch between drive and reverse. You don’t have to let go of the steering wheel while changing gears and for added convenience, you can go into park mode with a press of a button at the end of the lever.

VERDICT

We could go on and on about the GLC Coupe but we have to end our talk about the escapade with the GLC Coupe here. So, concluding our thoughts on this beauty, it was a sublime experience while driving around the city with the Coupe which is a work of art, both in terms of looks and performance. The GLC Coupe rings all the bells when it comes to safety tech like ABS (Antilock Braking System), Traction Control System, lane departure warning, Blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, airbags, etc. Although, this fact is mostly overlooked by most of the people but the GLC Coupe was equipped with one of the best quality reversing cameras, as the quality of the camera on the 7-inch screen was crisp and detailed. In addition, the 360-degree view camera along with its parking sensors made parking a walk in the park. If you have a particularly high budget and you’re looking for something that is practical for everyday family use on our pothole laden streets, yet something very sporty when called for with the look of a sedan/ coupe, then the GLC Coupe is the car to go to.

Hands down one of the most popular stalls, Go FORD Nepal definitely brought the heat with the Nepal Exclusive Ford Mustang GT. Although visitors did not get into close proximity with the Mustang, on account of its protective glass enclosure, it was definitely a showstopper at this year’s NADA Auto Show. Accompanying the Mustang was the fully decked out Ranger that was perched up on a shipping container making a statement from its high vantage point.

VOLKSWAGEN

Emphasizing their premium status, Volkswagen kept the comfort of visitors in mind by providing an air-conditioned stall which served as a respite from the sweltering heat. The German automaker Volkswagen had on display their newly launched all new Tiguan and the Amarok.

FROM ISTANBUL TO THE HIMALAYAS A JOURNEY OF THE MIGHTY 650MTS WORDS: PRASHANT MANANDHAR | PHOTOS: CF MOTO NEPAL

If you ask people why they travel, most of the times their reply would be to set their soul free or to explore the unexplored which will give them an all new sense of adventure. The essence of travelling, for some, is not just a passion but a lifestyle. Same goes with motorcycles; there aren’t just two wheels slapped onto a machine that runs on fuel. Motorcycles are machines that provide the rider with freedom and riding one is the closest that you can come to flying without leaving the ground. One thing that both travelling and motorcycles have in common has to be the thrill of adventure that both deliver. Then there are some, for whom, that only one is not enough, so they decide to travel half way around the world on motorcycles just to quench their thirst for adventure. Can Kungor and Erkin Yesil are two people that have given in to the passion of travelling on motorcycles and these people can vouch on the thrill that we just talked about. Just recently, these two have travelled all the way from Turkey on their CF Moto 650MTs to Nepal. So, while they were here, we decided to have a chat with them for the passion that they have for travelling on motorcycles. It was indeed a pleasure to listen to their stories of their experiences and lets see what they have to say about the whole adventure.

AUTOLIFE AUGUST 2018 73

FIRST OFF, HOW DID YOUR JOURNEY START WITH CF MOTO AND HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN WITH THE BRAND?

First, Erkin used to ride a CF Moto 400NK and about eight months back, he met with the people from CF Moto. Erkin then went on a tour in Turkey, covering almost 7000 kilometers on the 400NK. After the tour, there was a dealers’ meet of all the CF Moto branches from different cities which was held at Antalya and even I was invited to the event. There we got to interact with the people from CF Moto, got acquainted with them and talked about their motorcycles; it was an interesting session. Later on, during a motorcycle exhibition in Istanbul, we got to meet with the personnel from CF Moto China and they talked with Erkin about a new motorcycle that they were coming up with that time, the 650MT and they wanted us to do a tour with the motorcycle. CF Moto Turkey was also in on the idea and we eventually started planning the tour from February.

WHAT SPARKED THE DRIVE FOR YOU GUYS TO TRAVEL ALL THE WAY TO NEPAL FROM TURKEY? WHAT ROLE DID CF MOTO PLAY IN YOUR JOURNEY TO NEPAL?

Initially, we planned to go to China, but sadly our driving license is not accepted there and also, getting a visa for China is pretty difficult for us. So, we skipped that plan and decided to come to Nepal instead, as its close by to China. Also, we love this part of Asia and have heard a lot about Nepal, so we just thought why not go to Nepal. Actually, the idea to travel to Nepal came from Erkin because he had been to India before and wanted to visit Nepal as well. So, we talked with CF Moto Turkey regarding the tour to Nepal and they gave us the green light on the idea. After everything was discussed, CF Moto Turkey brought in two 650MTs just for us. This has to be the first time that a motorcycle company has given motorcycles to riders to go on an extensive trip half way around the world. We have to say that CF Moto have helped us a lot in this tour. We were even really impressed by CF Moto Nepal and were overwhelmed with the hospitality that they provided us with. This wouldn’t have been possible without the support from CF Moto.

HOW LONG WAS THE JOURNEY FOR YOU GUYS TO REACH NEPAL? ALSO, WERE THERE ANY OTHER COUNTRIES THAT YOU VISITED ON YOUR WAY TO NEPAL?

We started our tour on the 9th of June and we reached Nepal on the 15th of July. We didn’t directly come to Nepal but we stopped at

different countries. First, we went to Iran then to Pakistan and after that we arrived at India before finally arriving to Nepal. We even went to Ladakh while we were in India, so, we covered a lot of ground on the whole tour that’s why it was almost a month-long tour. By the time we reached Nepal, we had already covered more than 12,000 kilometers.

WHAT WERE YOUR EXPECTATIONS OF NEPAL BEFORE ARRIVING HERE AND HOW WELL WOULD YOU SAY THESE EXPECTATIONS WERE MET?

Actually, the main expectation that we had was to go to the Himalayas, to Mustang. We just wanted to see the nature and experience the beauty of the Himalayas. So, that’s the reason why we wanted to go to Mustang and explore Nepal. We have to say that we weren’t wrong to have high expectations from Nepal because we definitely have had an amazing time travelling to Mustang and getting close to the nature and mountains.

WE’RE PRETTY SURE CF MOTO NEPAL HAVE MADE YOUR STAY AMAZING IN NEPAL. WHAT WERE THE PLACES YOU VISITED TO AND COULD YOU SHARE SOME OF THE UNIQUE EXPERIENCES THAT YOU HAVE HAD IN EACH OF THOSE PLACES?

After crossing the border and getting done with the customs, we went to Butwal and stayed there first. After that we went to Pokhara and visited the Lakeside there. We must say Pokhara is quite a beautiful and peaceful place to be in, we really enjoyed going around the city. But the best and the most unique experience that we have had throughout the whole trip has to be at Mustang. The waterfalls, the landscapes, the scenery and the nature are just amazing at Mustang. We really enjoyed the local food there and everything was just so beautiful. We took a lot of videos and photos there, and we definitely had one of the best experiences there.

OVERALL, WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE ROAD CONDITIONS IN NEPAL AND DID YOU ENJOY RIDING HERE IN NEPAL?

After India, if we compare the road conditions from there, it is much better in Nepal. The road conditions are much better and even the traffic is better; the trucks, the drivers and people are

76

AUTOLIFE AUGUST 2018

all better in Nepal. In India the traffic is very hectic and every one is honking their horns everywhere. But in Nepal, it was more peaceful in terms on traffic and we didn’t have much of a hassle riding in the roads of Nepal.

IF YOU HAVE TO STATE, WHAT WERE SOME OF THE BEST MOMENTS THAT YOU HAVE HAD DURING THE WHOLE JOURNEY?

We think that the best moment for us throughout the whole ride has to be the ride from Pokhara to Mustang. That is something that we will remember for the rest of our lives. We were actually really surprised with the road conditions there; it changed every time from one scenario to the another. It was like the roads were changing every 5 minutes and there was a river that we needed to cross, so we put our bikes on a tractor and crossed it. It was such an enjoyable place to for us to be riding. Even the scenery was always changing; we got to see a lot of beautiful landscapes and everything was just incredible. Mustang will always keep you excited that it will make you curious and want to explore even more.

DID THE DECISIONS OF TRAVELLING AROUND THE WORLD HAVE AN IMPACT IN YOUR LIFE AND HOW HAVE YOU BEEN MANAGING TO GO ON SUCH RIDES?

Professionally, Erkin used to teach electrical engineering but now he has left his job. Now, he is all about riding and going on adventures. I am an animation and motion designer and work with different agencies; advertising companies, event management companies and production companies. I work with them to make 2D and 3D animations and I am even into photography and videography. But I work as a freelancer so it isn’t difficult for me to manage my time to go on rides. What I usually do is that I work really hard during the winter and save up money to go on rides as such.

HOW DID THE CF MOTO 650MT PERFORM DURING THE WHOLE JOURNEY? WHAT WERE THE ASPECTS THAT YOU LOVED ABOUT THE MACHINES AND IF THERE WERE ANY, WHAT ARE THE ISSUES THAT YOU FACED?

When we left from Turkey, we had packed a lot of spares parts

AUTOLIFE AUGUST 2018 77

in bag. But we didn’t even have to open that bag throughout the journey. There weren’t any problems and the motorcycles didn’t give us any issue out on the road. The motorcycles were always in perfect condition and we really loved it. Because if something goes wrong then we will have to fix it, which only means that we would end up screwing up our schedule and delay our ride. But thankfully nothing happened as such and it was a treat to ride the 650MTs. The bikes were really comfortable and they didn’t give any problem throughout the whole journey. Maybe one issue in the motorcycle is the weight, it is actually really heavy. But overall, the motorcycles performed exceptionally well. We rode in like 50 degrees in Pakistan but still there weren’t any heating problems and when we went to Ladakh, nothing happened there as well even with the harsh road condition and even in Mustang; the 650MTs didn’t give us any problem.

you on the motorcycle. You also need to make sure that your motorcycle is maintained and in good condition so that you don’t have any problem during the tour.

WHAT FUELED THE PASSION IN YOU TO START RIDING AND EXPLORING NEW COUNTRIES ON YOUR MOTORCYCLES?

Initially, Erkin used to go on backpacking trips and explore to experience different places to seek adventure. And then he thought that travelling on motorcycles would even be more adventurous and that’s how Erkin started going on motorcycle tours. Whereas, for me I started riding motorcycles about 6 years ago just as a means of commuting in Istanbul. At first motorcycles were just a means of transport for me but eventually, it turned into a passion and it has been no looking back ever since. Then I felt like I need to explore more with the motorcycle, going to different places and meeting new people and riders; that’s what got me into riding and going on long tours.

IS THERE ANY ADVICE YOU WOULD WANT TO GIVE TO PEOPLE ASPIRING TO TRAVEL CROSS COUNTRY ON A MOTORCYCLE?

First of all, you need to be aware about the route and weather conditions, and plan your trip accordingly. They have to manage it very well because everything depends on those two things. Also, you have to be very careful about what you take with yourself so that you aren’t carrying too much of load with

AUTOLIFE GEARS

THE ESSENTIALS FOR THE RIDERS’ SAKE

Riding PANTS Gears: COMPILED BY: PRASHANT MANANDHAR

Hello and welcome back to our 5th edition of the Riding Gears series: The Essentials for The Rider’s Sake. If you haven’t been following our previous issues of Autolife, then this is the segment where we talk about proper riding gears and why people need to invest in them for the safety that they provide. Previously, we have already discussed how owning and wearing riding gears can save you from a lot of mishaps that might occur while you are riding a motorcycle. These gears will not only protect you but they will save you from all the hassles of medical treatment as well. Many might think of owning riding gears as an expense but these are actually a really good investment that will save you from future expenses if you happen to get in a motorcycle accident. In the first edition of our riding gears series, we touched base on the 5 pieces of gears that we believe are essential for every rider and why they need to be investing on them. Following that, we have already covered up helmets, gloves and jackets where we got into the nitty-gritty of each one and how they save you from all the unwanted hassle of treatments. This time around, we shall be talking about riding pants and why it is an essential for the rider’s sake. Generally, motorcycle pants are pants specialized for motorcycle riding with the purpose of protecting your lower body from all the possible injuries in the event of a crash. But sadly, these riding pants are one of most overlooked safety gears. When it comes to riding gears, we believe that it is the second most neglected piece of gear after riding boots. People tend to believe that just a pair of jeans is enough while riding but what they forget is that then jeans we normally wear are made from cotton and doesn’t provide the protection from the abrasions that occurs in a crash. And then there are some who believe that slapping on a pair of knee protectors will keep you safe; but then again what about the rest of your legs? Having scrapped skin and bruises all over your legs is not at all a pretty sight and yes, it will hurt a lot too. So, why not just invest on a good pair of riding pants for your highspeed runs through the highways and spare yourself a few trips to the hospital. You know what

80

AUTOLIFE AUGUST 2018

they say, prevention is better than cure, and that’s what riding gears are all about. Think about this, your legs make up for the largest contact point that you have with your motorcycle and has a lot to do with how well you can ride as well. Be it using the rear brake or changing the gears or even balancing the motorcycle while its idling, you need your legs. Your lower body, if not properly covered, is exposed to a lot of damage during a crash or accidents, specially at high speeds; even your trusted jeans will tear off and have your lower body exposed. And let’s face it, walking with a bruised knee is one of the most painful experience ever. So, investing on a good pair of riding pants is definitely not a bad idea. Like we said earlier, riding pants are specifically constructed to provide protection to your lower body and comes with paddings above the knees and hips. We get it that facebook.com/AutolifeNepal

you might just be commuting every day and wearing riding pants all the time might not be practical enough for you but owning one will do more good than harm. Just like motorcycle jackets, riding pants are composed of a combination of various materials that are thicker than the fabrics of your average day to day clothing. They are usually made up of leather or ballistic nylon that provide better abrasion resistance than normal fabrics. However, manufacturers have even made riding pants out of jeans using Kevlar panels in the key impact zones. Some manufacturers are even weaving the Kevlar directly into the cotton material, and adding armor to the impact zones. This means that you don’t have to be all suited up in leather looking like an astronaut hovering around in your motorcycle. You can still look badass with your leather jacket, motorcycle jeans, gloves, helmet and riding boots. As mentioned earlier, these pants come with added protection in the main impact areas such as the knees and hips, which protects them during a crash. Always look for one with proper armors to keep you safe and try to find one with a CE certification. All of these will make sure that you would walk straight and being said that maybe survive a crash with minimal damage to your body. Good riding pants are the ones that protect your thighs, knees and lower legs properly. So, what do you need to look into if you are planning to buy yourself a brand-new pair of motorcycle pants? First of all, you need to be very careful and check if its flexible or not; you shouldn’t be compromising on comfort while looking for safety. Make sure that the pants allow you to move easily and they must be flexible around the knees and hips. It isn’t that difficult or different from buying your normal pair of jeans and trousers. You just have to make sure that the pants fit you properly and are snug around your lower body. The pants shouldn’t be restricting any of your movement either; you should be able to move your legs around easily without any obstruction. Next up, after you have found the perfect fit, you need to make sure that the armors are positioned properly and it shouldn’t move around excessively, that would just defeat the purpose of having the protectors in the first place. Also, make sure to find out what material are the pants made up off. The fabric used to design the pants should be abrasion resistant, making sure that the pants take the hit during a crash and not your skin. Lastly, you need to choose your pants according to your riding needs. There will be a lot of options out in the market but you need to be able identify your needs to be purchasing one. These days pants come with a lot of additional features, pockets, vents, etc. But just look for ones that fit you properly, suits your riding style and have CE certification or approval.
