Personal data refers to data, whether true or not, about an individual who can be identified from that data.

Personal Data Protection Act

With effect from 2nd July 2014, the Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) establishes a data protection law that comprises various rules governing the collection, use, disclosure and care of personal data. It recognises both the rights of individuals to protect their personal data, including rights of access and correction, and the needs of organisations to collect, use, or disclose personal data for legitimate and reasonable purposes.

The Data Protection Act 2012 sets out rules for processing personal information, and it applies to paper records as well as those electronic records on computer. The Act gives individuals certain rights, and also imposes obligations on those who records and use personal information to be open about how information is used and to follow data protection obligations.

HOW STUDENT DATA IS USED BY APSN (CYS)

APSN (CYS) collects and processes information, including images about its students, applicants and potential applicants including academic, administrative, management, financial aids, security and safety reasons.

Information is shared between schools and centre within APSN, and is used for a full range of student administration including academic, alumni relations, employment relations and support services. It is also shared with government agencies, statutory bodies or non-government agencies authorised to carry out specific government services or duties, or to meet statutory obligation.

Publication or release of information that is customary by APSN (CYS), including but not limited to award of prizes, medals and student or graduation status.

The STAR Award recognises students’ achievement in nonacademic areas.

This award is given based on the students’

(a) participation in CCA;

(b) achievement in at least one non-academic area

This award is given to a maximum of 5% of pupils in each level

(a) Active participation in one CCA with at least 95% attendance rate.

(b) Achievement in one sport, performing or visual arts (e.g. 1st to 3rd prize) OR participation in at least 3 external events.

Update Of Personal Particulars

Parents / guardians are responsible for notifying the school of their child’s / ward’s change in personal particulars including full name, identity card, citizenship, home address, correspondence contact details and next-of-kin details.

The Model Pupil Award (MPA) recognises students’ display of core values.

This award is given to students who meet the following criteria:

- Recipient of at least 1 Model Pupil Award in the current year

1 Vandalism, possession / distribution of prohibited items e.g. weapons, cigarettes, drugs etc, substance abuse incl. smoking, misreporting, sexual harassment, outrage modesty, molest, physical intimacy, causing physical harm to others, e.g. bullying, threatening, unruly public behaviour like fighting, inciting trouble, assault, extortion, theft, use of abusive language, wilful public display of temper / tantrums.

** Each pupil is entitled to receive a maximum of TWO awards from the above 5 categories: FAA, STAR. GPA &/or MPA

Parents / guardians must notify APSN (CYS) within two weeks of the effective date of change of affected personal particulars. APSN (CYS) will not be accountable for delayed or lost mail due to incorrect or obsolete students’ addresses and contacts.
